Interpertation: I hear you buzzing, a fly on the wall - She notices a fly buzzing then sees it on a wall. In through the window, and up through the hall - It flies off the wall, goes through a window then travels through a hall. While she moniters it. Flying in circles just trying to land, I see you hurting I do what I can - Fly is circling trying to land but it's damaged so landing isn't safe. She sees the damage and does something. But I won't save you, I won't save you - She will do something but not save it's life. Maybe you're looking for someone to blame, fighting for air while you circle the drain - She ends up drowning it to end its misery. The fly doesn't know if they should blame her or the one that injured them first. Never be sorry for your little time -She's saying it's their fault they got injured. Little time being the short ammount of time caused from the fly's mistake. It's not when you get there, it's always the climb - The fly can't get up there but keeps trying to climb. I was excitedly talking to a friend about how powerful a lyric "...but I wont save you" is. It's vastly different than I /can't/ save you. WONT implies that the person is perfectly capable of saving the person, but they actively CHOOSE not to, and that's a heavy notion right there. It pangs of hate. The rest of the lyrics almost suggest pity, but the WONT in "I won't save you" as opposed to "I can't save you" carries a heavy feeling to it. I'm only half way through the game so I can't tell how true this is, but this if the feeling I got when I played the Sybil stage. Not even entirely sure of who isn't saving whom but it's an extremely exciting notion.

I think is more like red cant save sybil from herself, because somethimes people want others to "help" "save" them but they are the only ones who can save themselfs, "I see you hurting, I do what i can... but I wont save you" that part expecificaly implies that the "I wont save you" means that.

I interpreted it a little differently. I think there's frustration and sadness in her pity than hate, and it's very related to Sybil as that desperate 'fly.' Red says clearly that she "does what she can," so it's not that she won't - she is doing what she can. It's that what she "can" do "won't" work. When you see a fly in a room that doesn't want to go outside, can you save that fly? You can't change what it does. Sybil wants to be an insider more than she wants to be a social climber. But Red IS on the inside, and she knows what that's like. She knows what it's like for people to vote for you to be the singer of the week EVERY week, regardless of your vote. She knows that getting there doesn't matter - it's the process (no pun intended) of getting there that takes over your life. So Red can't save her, but Sybil can't possibly understand that, can't possibly listen to it. She's a climber, a fly on the wall, that's what she IS, and since she's always changing - changing faces, changing groups, changing tactics to get Red - she never changes. So Red isn't telling Sybil she can't save her, because Sybil can't hear that. Red is telling Sybil she WON'T save her - that no matter what Sybil does, Red will not be her magic solution. What Sybil wants does not exist. It's a warning, not a refusal - and that's why it's so damn sad.

I interpret it much more as while capable of saving them on paper, it cannot be done without extreme risk to herself. "I see you hurting so I do what I can" is my evidence there. She does what she can to help, but saving isn't a valid option. She will not save 'you.' Not out of hate or malice, but because it's something 'you' must do on your own.

I think that since this song morphs into Sybil's 98% corrupted voice, (See _n C_rcl_s for the corrupted sound) SYBIL is saying that she won't save Red from The Process and/or the Camerata. (Spoilers ahead) Since Sybil was in love with Red and found out she had a boyfriend, (The Transistor), Sybil probably didn't want to save her from it. She WAS the "eyes and ears" of the Camerata, so that's why I think this. (It's so long, sorry for wasting your time with a nonsense reply.)

From what I can tell, Red wrote this song specifically to address Sybil. *She noticed Sybil's feelings (I hear you buzzing... just trying to land - Sybil wants Red and tries to stay around her) *Red doesn't return them and feels bad for Sybil (I see you hurting, I do what I can) *Sybil is in turmoil, but Red is telling her she won't be the one to fulfil her life (I won't save you) *Sybil blamed Mr. Nobody for Red's distance (maybe you're looking for someone to blame) *Red tries to let Sybil down gently and reassure her that she'll find someone else (never be sorry for your little time... it's always the climb) This song is running through Red's head during the boss fight - in spite of everything, she feels some pity for Sybil's horrible condition, but can only put her out of her misery.

Just my own interpretation but I think it goes even further -- many of the functions' backstories suggested they each had some personal struggle that led them to seek out help, typically from "a group of individuals" (ie the Camerata). Even the Camerata who were trying to help the city have what it wanted before it knew it needed it ("it's not when you get there") required "help" from those acclaimed individuals, but ultimately Red is unable to save any of them. Brilliant foreshadowing.

there's a distorted version of the song that plays during the boss fight, called _n C_rcl_s which is just 'in circles' without the vowels, and it can be taken as that being sybil remembering that song in her last moments, even while 98% processed, because it had an effect on her. it was essentially a rejection line from red, but that didn't stop sybil from getting attached to the song. and it is very much implied that sybil had feelings for red so I feel like this was absolutely intended by supergiant games, because in her file it states that she first became infatuated with red's music/talent, then red herself.

Here's an interesting theory about In Circles and _n C_rcl_s. They play during the Sybil boss fight, In Circles being the first stage, _n C_rcl_s being the third, and a halfway point for the second stage. Well during the boss battle I noticed a difference on the elongated "I won't save you.". But first, some ideas. In Circles is Red "singing" to Sybil. The lyrics do make sense. And _n C_rcl_s is Sybil singing to Red. Since it's processed. When I listen to _n C_rcl_s I don't hear "but I-I-I-I wo-o-o-o-n't save yo-o-o-o-u" I hear "but I'll save you". The "won't" becomes distorted enough to sound like a part of "I" changing the sentence. So when Sybil sings to Red, she means she'll save her, perhaps Sybil was just trying to use her last string of sanity to take the transistor and absorb Red, saving her from the Process. Or maybe it can refer to Help (). IDK man, it's just a theory, A THEORY ABOUT A GAME! If only there was an easier way to say that... hm.

Oh my gosh... I think I just got it! When the Camerata stole Red's voice, they didn't just steal it. They *used* it. During the Sybil Reisz battle, she was using Red's music and voice to distract her. Maybe this was even Sybil singing with Red's voice... that would explain the content! Sybil was taunting Red with her own voice, telling her over and over again that she was to die on the set after all. The song became warped as "_n C_rcl_s" because, as Sybil was dying due to her injuries and Process takeover, "her" voice began to fail along with her body!

***** Honestly, I'd say Planning() is different, but not necessarily better. Bastion's lack of it keeps the action frantic, and encourages (me, anyway) to select my weapons based on what enemies I'm facing. I usually used the rifle and machete, but I would also switch it up with the pike. Transistor is cool because I like finding how I can do the most damage in one turn, usually using a combination of Mask() and Void(), going for backstabs. I also like to take utilize Jaunt(), Switch(), or a combination of the two. Transistor has combinations Bastion doesn't, but Bastion is more face paced, IMO. *shrug* Different games for different people.

No idea if anyone is still in this comment section, but I've recently played this game for the first time (loved both Bastion and Hades, so I thought I'd try Transistor too) and Sybil's boss fight will stick with me for a while. I struggled with this more than any other encounter in the game, because of how new I was to the combat system. Half of my functions were gone by the end of this fight in my first playthrough. It's also one of the most powerful parts of the entire story. An encounter with Sybil could've easily been the endboss fight, with how much story there is between her and Red. More so than with any other member of the Camerata. She's responsible for everything that's happened. She picked Red as a target and lied to them that she's going to be alone. Also, that transition from Red's singing to the distorted version of the song gave me goosebumps. The song as presented in the boss battle perfectly loops around the entirety of Transistor's story; it speaks of the very beginning where Red rejected Sybil's advances, it shows how the entire city gradually got processed and the "I won't save you" line perfectly foreshadows the ending. Her word choice of CAN'T rather than WON'T makes a lot of sense in context of her final decision. Now that I think of it... I think that's why they chose to put this sequence near the start of the game.

Frankly, fighting Sybil is the only boss battle that Supergiants managed to paint a very beautiful picture with its music, voice acting and the use of grim and dark color. That said, I nearly couldn't recall there was any other "boss" battle in transistor that produced as much emotional impact. The spine was not related to the story. The minions were uninspiring and non-interactive. The last boss, Royce, was not a very developed character and he is purely a uninteresting nihilist whose story didn't even cross with Red before all this shit. Sybil was the only antagonist that had some tragic elements, which makes fighting her so memorable.

It's what gives meaning to fighting boring minions repeatedly. But here the players climbs up like a million stories to the top expecting a legendary fight, only to meet the two dead camerata members. I don't care about the main storyline. This just isn't a very good set-up from a gameplay perspective.

The spine was indeed a part of the story because when mr nobody was having trouble speaking, red (through an OVC terminal) told him that shevwas "going to find whatever is doing this to" him. And then she'd "crush its heart". And frankly, thats exactly what happens after the boss battle

+Nick Wertz The Spine's red corruption is also a very interesting story element; it makes mr nobody blurt out things he normally wouldn't, and shows a much deeper insight into both him and his relationship with Red. The Spine boss battle was a woman fighting to destroy something that was hurting her lover.

Royce only hit me because he was the only other character to wield a Transistor in-game, he was, in gameplay, the only enemy to be able to use Turn(), and he holds and wields the Transistor in such a different manner, animation-wise. I also like his voice and manner of speech but otherwise, he isn't very memorable.

I've had this on a loop for hours. This game is one of my favorites. I love the dark-ish story, the gameplay and the message. And the music is so good. I'm so hyped to try out Hades soon, too. Once I saved enough money to buy it haha

I once had an OC for Fire Emblem :Awakening to replace the generic Robin. His name was Issac But I had a problem deciding his origins. I loved bastion a lot, but that universe was used for another one of my fan-stories. When I saw the Reveal trailer for Transistor, It was an instant decision that Cloudbank would be his birthplace. Isaac deeply admired Red when he went to one of her concerts and developed a massive crush oh her before one day falling into the Fire Emblem world (and getting amnesia). For most of the Fire Emblem part, it stayed the same, except a few (spoiler-bound) changes, like the "Big Bad" and Isaac's destiny and all that. Every once in a while, he'd sing "We all become". Issac/Robin never married and was hell bent on getting back to Cloudbank, and when he DID find a way back, Chrom left the kingdom in the care of *spoiler* and accompanied him. because their bond was THAT deep. Chrom wanted to see the woman that made Issac/Robin the man he is. Issac/Robin and Chrom arrive in Cloudbank and find it being taken by the Process, Their journey through the city takes place between just before "The Spine" and after the ending. When Isaac/Robin finally finds Red, ...it all sinks in... Isaac was there for Chrom's "despair event horizon" when *spoiler*, but it's not gonna be easy for Chrom

So, like, going into the game with minimal exposure (only the Songs of Supergiant visuals, basically), I thought Sybil was going to be this delightful little asshole antagonist who taunts you throughout the game, egging you on from behind a swarm of machines, all leading up to a satisfying confrontation/beat down at the game's conclusion, based on how she gets her own boss theme with a scary second-phase remix. Nope! She's the first boss of the game. A warm-up. Hell, when I got to her, I thought she was supposed to be a fake out fight where you're supposed to lose when she started dodging my attacks and healing her health once you reduced it. That feeling distinctly vanished when I beat her, though, leaving nothing but a gently bleeding husk on the floor. I'd felt like I'd done something wrong, somehow. SG does it again, I guess. Makin' me feel bad for the villain with no dialogue.

Song is about going through the pain and not jumping to the next chapter of your life. You have to do it by yourself, "It's not when you get there, It's always the climb." The main point is that your experience is what matters most. Not cheat codes and getting everything you wanted from someone.
