That polyphonic sequence at 20:00 is absolutely mesmerizing... Makes me want to build up a modular just to drown it in reverb... Damn that would sound really fantastic in an ambient setting. Anyways absolutely great stuff Mylar, I absolutely love your shit

This has the same flaw as the Audio Damage sequencer, and I just don't get why. The jacks are at the bottom! Right where your hands go! Metropolis and Rene get it right and put them at the top...I'd love it if this did that as well....

Another brilliant installment. Three quick questions if I may: 1) Have you ever messed with Audio Damage Seq 1? If so, how do you feel they compare? 2) Can you do a demo of the Akemie's Castle? :-) 3) What reverb are you using here? Erbeverb? Blackhole? :-) Thanks for your time!!!
@mylarmelodies8 жыл бұрын
Ta! 1) Yes I reviewed it for FM and it's very good, obviously much more complicated/deeper than SA, but there's an according cost! 2) Yep. Can and will in the coming months. 3) Valhalla Room!

17:54 is this voice produced by the Atlantis?
@mylarmelodies7 жыл бұрын
Yep, looking at the wires, I think so, without an external signal (the 'ext' is up but without an input signal that adds a sine wave)
@ph0sph0rcrt77 жыл бұрын
That synth has produced more than one sound I have heard from old school house and rave music. This is another example of a sound that holds you captive and makes you want to do anything to get the circuit that makes that noise. This is why I would tape techno off of the radio and play it until the tape breaks. I just got an Atlantis and feel like I have so many sounds I have missed for so long. This synth also capable of creating those long haunting sounds during some of the scenes in Blade Runner 2049. Im just floored...
@ph0sph0rcrt77 жыл бұрын
Correction.. The Blande Runner sounds were produced by a Yamaha CS-80 apparently but Atlantis has very much the same kind of scream.. Especially when ran through reverb filters

Wait now that I see your patches.. Do you have the akemies castle triggering the modulation on you atlantis.. Somerhing else is influencing this sound.. Trying to recreate with just my atlantis.. I really can't decide between the Stepper Acid and the Metropolis.. Which one do you like the most? I want to make sequences similar to Four Tet, Aphex Twin and Floating Points, I noticed a lot of the time they use an 'acid style' sequence but more slowed down and unique and modulated (I guess?). Best thing is find (or make a pilgrimage to) a modular store where you can try both, and see which jives with you best. There's no 'good or bad' when it comes to gear, just what you gel with or not. Some things come easy, but you do need to invest a bit of learning time with certain other bits of gear, once you overcome the hurdle you might find it was the best choice. I guess I'm saying to make sure you give everything a good fair shot, don't write things off too quickly!

Awesome video as always - instructional and inspirational. Like listening to Aphex Twin with Charles Hawtrey and Kenneth Williams providing approving comments! Any chance of uploading patch diagrams onto Patreon (constructed with ModularGrid)?
@mylarmelodies8 жыл бұрын
Hah! Ohh Matron... Yes I could do diagrams - I guess it's very simplistic with this - the key is to think about blending the voices of Rings through the Atlantis's input (and to that end 'hybridising' analog/digital wherever possible), but triggering them from the same sequencer, and it all being in sync with nice drums. Trigger riot is doing all the percussion sequencing (except in the Akemie's castle bit where the Accent output of Stepper is doing the business)! Let me know if any more questions!
@simonmodig6 жыл бұрын
How do you use the accent out in this video? Seems like it goes to maths, and then to two places, at least one of them also on the atlantis. I guess maths i generating an attack-decay-cv with very fast attack and then opening the filter? what more? Great video!

Have you ever tried the audio damage sequencer? How do they compare? I like that the AD has 3 extra CV channels... which I would want to use for polyphony but not sure how easy that'd be. The TSL SA looks awesome in your hands, ... I think I've got to not buy a Rene but get this instead :) I know- completely different units; but I want this now :)
@mylarmelodies8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes I've reviewed the Sequencer 1 for Future Music before - they're similar in certain core working respects, but the Sequencer 1 is a much more advanced/complex sequencer and capable of generating many other types of modulation/gates and 'parameter lock' style workflows etc, and longer individual sequence lengths. Stepper Acid is much simpler, and I would argue a bit more immediate (such is it's nature - it's simpler) - but you still can make long 256 note patterns, you can program very specific passages of music, and you can save patterns to memory, and it's immediate, fun to interact with. I guess the biggest thing is that the Stepper Acid is around £295, and the Sequencer 1 I've seen at some retailers for £499.
@steefdroid8 жыл бұрын
Oh I must've seen that video then because I saw all your FM stuff haha. Must've been a while since I've seen that. Yes I love the immediacy of the SA which is obvious seeing you jam with it :)

It's cool for what it does, but it seems hard for me to justify these 1-track sequencers now that there's multiple good multi-track ones, just in terms of value/price, and space. Don't know that I would ever trade my Stillson Hammer Mk2 within my 6U for anything.
