Welland is a city in the Regional Municipality of Niagara. It has been traditionally known as the place where rails and water meet, referring to the railways from Buffalo to Toronto and Southwestern Ontario, and the waterways of Welland Canal and Welland River, which played a great role in the city's development. The city has developed on both sides of the Welland River and Welland Canal, which connect Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
Welland Transit was founded in 1973 and currently runs as a hub-and-spoke system with all routes converging at its Downtown Terminal. Niagara Transit Commission, formed in January 2023, integrates transit all across Niagara Region.
