IMPORTANT: I made a mistake when initially discussing the E-Z isomers in alkenes and when I say that cis is the same as E isomers and trans is the same as Z isomers, this is incorrect! The info regarding cis and trans isomers is still all correct, but the E and Z should be the opposite way round. Cis = Z, Trans = E, My bad guys!

This was a beautiful video. Second year at college rn, and finally have motivation to work hard. It's really late, and I'm kicking myself for not trying before. But better late than never. Love the practice recall bit at the end, really helpful, and forces me to stay focus and not let my brain drift away. How on earth do you only have 5k subs, this is literally one of best videos out there!!

@@easymodeexams33 how would you know whether something is square planar or a tetrahedral when in transition metals never really get it

How do you know when it's going to be tetrahedral and when it's going to be a square planar just looking at the molecular formula?
@emilyxx9698
@emilyxx9698 7 ай бұрын
It depends how many bonding/lone pairs the central metal ion has.if it has 4 bonding pairs, and 2 lone pairs left over, then that will be square planar as the lone pairs will be positioned 180 degrees away from each other (one at the top and one at the bottom). So square planar is basically octahedral but instead of a ligand on the top and the bottom it’ll be lone pairs. Hope this helps

Hi, how can you tell if a complex is going to be tetrahedral or square planar ? I know transition metal ions commonly form tetrahedral complexes with larger ligands like [CuCl4]2- but how could you tell that complex was tetrahedral instead of square planar because square planar can also have Cl ligands
