I've been riding this bike for the past 2 months now, coming off a 27.5 last gen canyon spectral. The ride quality is exactly as you say. It's insane how this bike just feels flawless. Such a quality feel to the ride. Like a very well trained and calm hunting dog that's much more clever than it's supposed to be for some reason. Just making quick work of every single thing it might, could or flat out shouldn't be able to ride. It wasn't until the last few rides however that I'm starting to adapt to the style of riding it requires to really get playful. Jumping was surprisingly great from the get go but it felt so composed in corners I really had to relearn to flick, roost and style my way through windy trails. It wants to be handled with confidence and determination and feels extremely accurate when you do, and best of all; the sheer POWER it translates onto the trails just feels insane! This bike is like I'm riding a different breed. I feel like there's even more to tap into on this bike and I can't wait to explore it.

Hey, are you still riding the Sentinel? I'm currently on a 27.5 Rocky Mountain Altitude and am looking at the Sentinel for my next bike. Curious to know which build you went with and if you found it took awhile to adjust to 29" wheels.
@Coerced
@Coerced Жыл бұрын
@@joseph-the-seventh I am still on it! I went with the GX carbon build but have by now changed the suspension, brakes and some other components. Mostly because I just like to test stuff. It didn't take me long to adapt to the bigger wheels at all when it comes to comfortably charging trails but I'm 6'2 and that might make it easier. Like I originally said though, it did take me a while longer to figure out how to ride it playfully. It isn't as flickable as a typical 27.5 unless the speeds are much higher, then it starts feeling like how a 27.5 feels at medium speeds which is awesome
@joseph-the-seventh
@joseph-the-seventh Жыл бұрын
@@Coerced Nice! I've narrowed down my bike selection to a Sentinel or a Santa Cruz Bronson MX which has the mixed wheel setup. I'm also 6'2 so would probably be fine on 29" wheels, though I'm also thinking mixed wheels could be a fun setup. Hard to go with a bad bike these days!
@Coerced
@Coerced Жыл бұрын
@@joseph-the-seventh never rode a SC but got some time on a buddy's latest generation Patrol which is a mullet. It's a very similar bike but it doesn't really add much for me tbh. It hops a bit faster but doesn't corner like a 27. In fact, it just felt like my bike but rather unsettled. Thinking about it, I actually think I felt the downsides of both wheelsizes rather than the best of both worlds. It's like the back end wants to tip but the front is slowing it down, and the front end wants to charge but the rear is rattling. I don't feel like it does much for people our size but I might just be missing the charms. I'm just one guy. Good luck with your decision!

I love my Sentinel v2. Got the Carbon XO1 build in June. I mainly ride at the park with my Transition TR11, but the Sentinel has got me excited to ride local trails more now. Couple tweaks I’ve made are to switch out the OneUp Carbon bar with 20 mm rise for the ANVL Mandrel 30 mm rise mainly for the up sweep and back sweep that feels perfect (same bar on the TR11). And I’m going to switch out the 40mm stem for a 50mm to also align the cockpit with the TR11. Sentinel does everything and you can really tune it specifically for the types of trails you’re riding. Great review!

You nailed it with the qualities of this bike. Got lucky recently and found a Sentinel at a local shop and I've been loving it. Was originally looking at Ripmos (but wanted something more capable going down), and then Stumpy Evos (but gave up after having an order in for 8 months) . The Sentinel has been awesome climbing/descending my local trails, and was a blast at the bike park last week. Like you mentioned I love how quiet the bike is. Might sound lame, but it's one of my favorites qualities of the bike. It just feels so smooth, composed, and quiet while also being fun and playful. Stoked I ended up on a Sentinel because Transition created an all around killer! Also I may be biased but this bike looks amazing! I've never got so many looks and compliments on a bike before, but the bike just draws attention.

Just love your reviews! As for chain stay length, I ride a 2019 SC Chameleon 29er and for the first year I rode it with the adjustable dropouts slammed for the shortest length (cause that's what all the cool kids do) and I always felt there was something missing, and then I decided to spin a few wrenches and back them out 10mm to the longest setting and holy cow... what a difference! So much more fun at speed and I guess it just fits what I expect a bike to feel like. Shorter is not always better.

I've had my Sentinel going on 2 seasons now and I did make a few tweaks. Running a Wolf Tooth Geoshift +1 degree headset and MegNeg on the rear, trying out a super deluxe coil soon. I found that I don't understeer in corners with a steeper ha and I don't have to be over the front and as aggressive all the time. Plus mine is still slacker than the Ripmo so I wasn't worried about making it too steep. I'll do a review of it soon.

Great review. It would be great if you could compare it to the Marin Alpine Trail since it has the same travel and geo is very close although 0.1-degree slacker HT angle on the Marin, so it would become the slackest bike you've ever ridden. I'm currently considering these two since the Alpine Trail 7 and the Sentinel NX Alloy are similarly priced in my country, and both are described as all-day all-mountain bikes with a fun/lively character and very capable of rough stuff. The chainstay is 10mm shorter on the Alpine Trail, so I'm wondering how it would compare since it's supposed to have very snappy cornering, but this Sentinel is reviewed as cornering very well too.

About to pull the trigger on an all mountain type bike. It’s looking like the Sentinel or a canyon Spectral. First, are the two bikes comparable, and second: it looks like you had a few close scrapes in this ride. I'm not trying to push it as something it's not. I honestly believe it's an all-mountain bike. It's far more capable on the DH than the trail bikes. I've ridden one of the nastiest double black diamond trails in the state on a standard SB130. I wouldn't be stoked to ride that same trail on a Tallboy, Ripley or Spur. I feel like the SB130 video I just published, goes to show it's an AM bike and not a trail bike. you don'r have to believe it, but I doubt you've ridden all these bikes back to back to actually know for yourself.

@@bikersedge I totally agree. I have had a Sentinel V2 since May 2020. Initially I thought it would be an enduro sled, but instead found it to be an amazing all arounder. I ride it everywhere! Xc trails, flow trails, bike parks, shuttle mountains, it is the do it all - all mountain bike. I eventually upped the fork to 170 and put the cascade link on to make it a bit more enduro feeling, but it hasn’t lost much of its all mountain roots. Such a versatile bike.

@@bikersedge Hey, first off just wanted to say that I'm a big big fan of your videos. Love the production quality, the interesting dialog, and the great bikes reviewed. You're doing it right. I just wanted to leave a comment to say that sometimes bike reviews can get a tad bit confusing. It seems like a vast majority of reviews use the words "slightly" or "a little bit" to differentiate bikes and on the same token categorize bikes that may seem similar differently. An example of this is when you say that the Sentinel is a "little bit" up the burly scale over the Spur, but then say that the Sentinel is an all mountain bike but not an enduro bike. But I bet if the sentinel just had 10mm more travel ( "slightly" more rear travel) to 160 it would classify as an enduro bike thru and thru - nearly same specs, actually more aggressive than something like a megatower. I own both a Spur and Sentinel, and can definitely that they are worlds apart. I think what I'm getting at is that maybe when reviews use words like "slightly " or a "little bit" it may confuse some people, because to me those words means a "very small" or "negligible" difference. Anyways, keep doing what you're doing. Just wanted to throw that out there.
@bikersedge
@bikersedge 3 жыл бұрын
@@CCWclassic Thanks for the kind words! That's some really good feedback too. Not sure I've said the Sentinel is only a "little bit burlier" than a Spur. I've owned both and the Sentinel is way burlier than the Spur. Compared to the other bikes in this test, though, it is a "little bit" burlier. Hopefully that clears things up.
