It's unbelievable this channel has only a few subscribers. Randy is a Master of Jigs. Should be recognized widely. Congrats Randy!

What a awesome improvement! Should definitely save time. Rasping , filing , and sanding the curve would take more time as well as not be as perfect as this new step. Your brain wheels just keep on turning.

Such a great video. I imagine a similar technique could be used to make the contour pucks

FANTASTIK!! I was waiting patiently and now I understand perfectly how you made the ramps. The only time the headstock ramps would be the same is if you'd have a symmetrical 2+2 Headstock. Thanks Randy.

@@randysguitarsbroncos223 Just one question, is the 1.5" dowel sticking out from the router base arbitrarily based on your router? or should it be set to that depth to be able to make the cams sit at the proper height? I'm making the cams and ramps this weekend. Thanks again
@randysguitarsbroncos223 Жыл бұрын
1.5” is how far the router bit will be sticking out on your final pass, so the dowel must be 1.5” to get the cams the correct size.

@@randysguitarsbroncos223 perfect, I re-watched your first video and realized that the 1.5" simulated the stickout of the router bit. I'm hoping to finish my jig this weekend, Looking forward to your next videos, Great work, thank you so much Randy.

Hi Randy! Many thanks for sharing your ideas and knowledge with us in your instructional videos. I am learning a lot. The addition of the ramps is nothing short of a phenomenal idea! I am going to build a neck routing jig in the near future. May I ask a question? Which type of router bit do you recommend for this jig? Many thanks, in advance. Please, keep up the amazing work!

I’ve been using a 1/2” wide flat bottom bit and the reason I’m using that bit is because when I use the jig to copy a neck, I’ve been using a 1/2” wide flat bottom dowel rod as the guide. You would think this would leave too many machining marks, but by the time you’ve ran it back-and-forth and rotated it round back-and-forth, there’s not very many machine marks. I just leave enough wood that when I sand it all the machine marks come out. I’m thinking about trying a 1/2” wide “bowl and tray router bit” with 1/8” radius to see what that does.

Hi, Randy. Many thanks for taking the time to respond. I saw the half inch bit in the videos. I was curious about the marks, as you mentioned, and wondered about some king of ball-end bit like the ones you see in the big boys´ CNC machines... It´s reassuring to know that you get such great results with flat bottom bit. The part about leaving enough meat to sand them away makes total sense. As a complete novice about to start his first build attempt and without a fortune to invest, I really appreciate all the knowledge you impart. I´m really excited to build the jig and other tools such as a drum sander and get going! Your videos inspire a lot of confidence. I hope to see many more! Take care and all the best from Brazil!

This is awesome. is the transition ramp profile skewed by the size of the neck profile cam? or is the ramp profile 1:1 with the neck

Hey there Randy, would putting 1"x 3/4 x a length long enough to make rwo sleds next to the pucks and tracing the radius onto them then cut in half work ? Thanks..I've learned a ton from you!

thanks a lot man.. I'm about to try and make my profile jig.. I would love to know what kind of boards your used for the sides.. I know they have to be really straight cause the router sled rides on them. I was thinking maybe some really straight hardwood furniture grade?
@randysguitarsbroncos22310 ай бұрын
I used to Poplar. Went to my local Lowe’s and picked out the straightest pieces I could find. Oak maybe would’ve been a little better.

@@randysguitarsbroncos223 My ole daddy (cabinet builder) has some pieces of oak he said would be perfect for the build. I sent him your video for the dimensions and specs and he said he will build most of it and bring it over to my shop and we can complete it together.. Ive printed out some plans and looked at a few different ways to build it and Dad and I have both come to the conclusion yours is the best design. We really appreciate your videos.. Thanks brotha! oh and that bronco is awesome too.. 😍
