Some additional thoughts/clarifications: 1. My literal version for a much-repeated concept in the Befuddled Villager’s dialog uses the word retribution ( www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/retribution ) where the official translation goes for atonement ( www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/atonement ). The two terms are similar enough that I didn’t think this worth mentioning in the episode, but I like the religious connotations brought forward in the official version. 2. For a more extensive version of my breakdown of how curses work in Bloodborne, the opening section of Translationborne 67 on the Bastard of Loran ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYjOqnyHm5uNmKs ) and the second subject of Translationborne 68 ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/aX-ap4x3q7eFp9k ) go into a lot more detail than I was willing to mention in this episode. 3. I didn’t have time to mention this in the episode, but I absolutely love the change from the literal “aged baby” in the Befuddled Villager’s dialog to the official “wizened child”. While the term “wizen” carries with it much of the same contradictory sense of a baby that’s experienced the ravages of age ( www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wizened ), it also makes more sense because it has a slightly broader meaning. In fact, I was able to find several references to “wizened” babies in the context of children who are small for their gestational age ( renaissance.stonybrookmedicine.edu/sites/default/files/SGA.pdf ). The result is a natural-sounding term that still conveys the apparent paradox of the Japanese in the form of an aged baby, and even seems appropriate if we consider the premature state of the Orphan of Kos.

I’ve been theorizing that ashen blood was caused by the fishing hamlet cursing Byrgenwerth, so it was exciting to see another possible connection!

Nice work Aruk! I ended up watching it twice in fact. You can tell how much I paid attention to Shakespeare in school as I didn't recognise 'how passing strange'. And your death while examining the celestial dial had me going 😂

Glad to hear you enjoyed the episode! And I agree completely about the death by item description 😂
