2013 Kia Sportage. 101,000 miles. Thanks, man! This video helped me a lot. I just today did this job very close to the same way you did. However, I was able to access the filler plug from the top and I was able to drain without jacking the car. Thus, I was also able to climb under and use the eyeglass (level port) to add perfect amount of fluid. (Note: I did temporarily jack car to remove engine underbody covers...) Additional notes: I got out a bit more ATF than you did. I got a full 4 quarts and then instead of being a cup less, mine took a full jug and about another cup more. My fluid also looked a tad cleaner in my estimation. I used a long plastic funnel that I rigged with the end of a blue def diesel exhaust funnel and that was the perfect size to jam in the filler port. It is a tight fit. Accessing the filler plug from the top and pouring the fluid in is one of the tougher parts of this job unless you want to disconnect some lines in the engine, which I do not. Thanks again. This was a big help.

@@dprinc369 Same as the video. MaxLife full synthetic in the red bottle. Works great for Kia. I wouldn’t use anything cheaper. But, if I wanted to go with something more premium, then I’d go with Amsoil. I’ve now done this job twice on this car. The second time it came out much cleaner. It improved shifting performance significantly the first time. The second drain and fill I didn’t notice any difference.

hey supermtran:something to look out for---i did my change a year ago,but last month i noticed a few red drips.yes it was trans fluid.after taking the plastic shield off under the engine and trans i saw the problem.the vertical oil pan on the front of the trans was rusty and leaking.moved the air cleaner etc. and removed 19 bolts and the replacement pan is now sturdy plastic.it looked to me the liquid gasket on the old pan was not applied thick enough. so just a warning,to check it-the plastic cover under the engine hides it.dave

Great video however you should always use original fluid from the dealer it's just safer that way little bit more money also you should do it every 60,000 miles on top of that what I do is do it twice the same day the reason I do that is I get 80% of it out they hold 7 and 1/2 chords you only get about 4at a time out

My opinion: Kia don’t make their own fluid, they get a good quality one and put their brand on it and sell it more expensive. Since you follow the manual specifications for the fluid, you can choose any good quality brand, so you’re good.

@@ErichGuidi Kia doesnt make their own, but they use hyundai which does make their own, its expensive though, I wouldn't recommend using anything else other than that one, but hey if people want to save money to each their own, I prefer to spend the extra cash when it comes to transmission and engine things.

I have a 2016 Sorento. Just changed using that ATF and it works fine. It's meets the KIA requirements for their transmissions, so there shouldn't be any worries.

I have Kia Sportage 2016 and i want to change my Transmision oil but i cannot locate the filler, any one who have idea its more appreciated.

As I've mentioned it's very hard to locate and I've point it out where it's at in 1:10 and again 2:15 where the filer is at. You may need need some padding on top of the engine and lean your head toward and look down to see it. And as I've stated that forget about unlocking the bolt from the top of your car and that you have to position yourself from the bottom of the car to access the bolt itself. Please watch the video again.. Hope it will help.

You don't need to jack car up to drain or fill, use large piece of cardboard and slide right under the car. Remove air box to get to fill port, remove return cooler ATF line to vent air while filling fresh fluid. If one wants full ATF replacement they can use that line to drain old fluid from torque converter. Also, check level with engine running. Don't do anything you are not sure about. Everything you do is your own responsibility.

Btw that is NOT the transmission fluid fill hole, the fill hole is almost right above the Oil level plug, I dont know if its safe to fill it from the hole you mention. Here is a diagram of where it is. Mind you to get to the actual Fill Hole is one of the hardest things to do in this car, there is too many parts and hoses on top of it www.kispmanual.com/fluid_components_and_components_location-695.html

This video is a PAIN to watch. First off - please, do your car and yourself a huge favor and change ATF at 20-30K miles first time (drain and fill or full exchange) and then do drain and fill every 30-40K miles thereafter. Remove the most of abrasive material suspended in the ATF when you drain it. If you change your car every 3 years - stop reading and go have a latte or freshen up your makeup. Second - you don't need a jack to do this job, get a piece of cardboard and lay down on the ground. Next, replace same volume you took out, use a graduated pitched from a dollar store. Make sure ATF drained and fresh one are at about same temp while same volume. If you feel fresh ATF goes in too slow and feel comfy around engine bay now - pull off ATF cooler hose marked with red paint temporarily while filling - ATF will go in fast, put the hose back on and secure with its clamp when done. It's a very basic job to do. This kind on work - oil changes, ATF changes, brake pads changes and a few other basic jobs SHOULD BE TAUGHT in HIGH SCHOOL, grades 10-11. Along with driving skills and gun handling and shooting and cooking basic meals, men AND women.

You can use any compatible fluid that meets Kia specs. For me I have a 07 Rondo which requires SPIII. I use Castrol fluid for foreign cars. The bottle states it is compatible with SPIII. So for me, I'm not paying dealer prices for the same oil

This is has always been a debatable subject.. I’m of the latter and a cheapskate. So for far I’m winning. Got over 170k on the Sportage now and no sign of slowing down. Perhaps another time for ATF on the way..

Just do a drain/fill 3x. That will replace 82% of the original fluid. Costs 45 bucks in Trans fluid, but gets better results. Then just do a drain/fill every 3rd oil change or so.

Thanks I know your concern about the music. Multiple people have pointed it out. This is among the very first video I've ever done. The music is stuck. It's also wonderful to have over 125k views after 6 years. Hate to delete it and start all over down to zero. You can live with the music a bit. It's not that bad when you think about it.. Turns out i was incorrect, ive serviced the kia cerato a few times now (transmission) and its just a drain and refil, best is to do it twice 2 services in a row because almost half the oil won't drain each time. At the time i posted my original comment, Ryco was selling a transmission kit for it, when I recieved it, it wasnt correct. I believe theyve changed the kit or listing removed now.
