Not a Ford guy, but I do appreciate the extent of the details you presented for this repair. Most dealers, in my opinion, would be ‘firing the parts cannon’ long before they bothered to find the real problem! Thank you for your integrity and persistence in doing the right thing, going the extra mile to get to the right solution to the problem! This is why you have the followers that you have! BRAVO!! 🙏👏👍🏼😎

You would think that an o-ring out of place would have caused issues from square one. It's always nice when a problem manifests itself like that did...
@SeanBZA
@SeanBZA 5 ай бұрын
I could still seal well enough not to set a code, till the o ring had worn from the bypassing fluid to the point the TCM noticed the excess fluid flow, from the pressure being wrong for that set of input and output ratios, and the clutches not getting the right pressure fed to them.

I really like it when you find some ' whoopsie ' like that and it really is the problem. I used to dabble with automatic transmissions as a teen and most people's eyes would just spin in their sockets at the thought of opening one up. I remember working on one of my sister's cars and had the automatic opened up enough to change to front seal and bushing and my brother- in - law came by ( who was a mechanic way more than me ) and even his eyes started twirling to see me attempting to fix a three speed automatic trans.

I know what you mean by when you find an issue visually, it feels great to think "yupp, those symptoms definitely match having that O Ring problem on that exact Solenoid". Having an electrical component issue feels a bit like hocus pocus. Seems like the Customer should have a working S1 Solenoid and Lead Unit as Spares.

I'm aware there is really no connection here. I had a 4r100 that when cold. Put it in drive and it shifted fine. Once at operating temp. It would act like it was stuck in overdrive. But I could manually shift it through all the gears. Fluid was flawless. It wind up being a one way sprag had worn. Once at temp it would cause it to malfunction in some way. So although that 02 7.3 with the 4r100 is 100 different. They do have some similar parts.

Kenny, just out of curiosity, couldn't you have confirmed which is the correct solenoid by activating it with a scan tool after dropping the pan and before you removed the valve body? You should be able to both feel and hear the solenoid actuate like that. The reason I'm saying this is because this is how I was able to identify a specific solenoid that I knew was bad on a vehicle. I'm glad you were able to find it and confirm via physical damage. I wouldn't have been that lucky in my case lol

I don't get how you're supposed to order a new solenoid based on which part number is on the one you are replacing . How can anyone be sure that some hack didn't pull it apart before you , and just throw the WRONG solenoid in there, perhaps from a junk trans from a scrap yard ? Now you are going to replace it with another just like it ? Not knowing the complete history of that truck could cause issues , through no fault of your own . If that happened , you are heading down a deep rabbit hole . I hope that isn't the case , but Ford's inability to correctly specify the right part number should not fall on your shoulders .
@mph5896
@mph5896 5 ай бұрын
Those solenoids have different specs on each one due to manufacturing variables. The total package gives you a code you program into the computer to get them to shift properly. On something like the 6f50, you just replace the entire assembly and flash it into the pcm.

@@nickg9021 He can replace a single solenoid, BUT the replacement has to be in the same range as the original. There are 4 choices per solenoid of what spec it can be. That's why he mentioned he has to drop the valve body to see which solenoid it has in it, then order the new one.

Yep... I wonder if that solenoid was replaced at some point in the trucks life ! Is it the right or wrong solenoid.
