This is the cleanest way of doing things. Now you can take the pan off and complete the job with a full transmission flush. My new pan has a drain plug. I do my brakes with vacuum as well. Nothing gets spilled, just all clean.

I've done basically same thing for several years. I prefer the cheap $16 dollar harbor freight air compressor AC vaccum pump. I use one of their cheap air regulators on it. 20-25 psi on the regulator pulls plenty of vacuum for fluid extraction. I use the quart and half gallon Ball jars, they have measurements built in.

Modify a rubber cap with a vacuum fitting and you can use it to bleed brake systems and clutch hydraulics by placing the fluid reservoir under vacuum for a bit. Just replaced a clutch master and slave and in 10 seconds of vacuum pumping I had an air free clutch release system. Never touched the pedal or bleed screw lol.

Doc Cal - used this system yesterday to remove ATF fluid when removing my CV axle. Two quarts drained out of the seal area when I did the drivers side two days ago. I was expecting a little to come out but not two quarts and I forgotten to have a pan all ready. So I vacuumed out 140 oz prior to doing the work on the passenger side which I did a few days later. Kept all the fluid in two clean jars you see in video while I did the work and then put it back in when completed. Not a drop came out near the seal this time! Worked great - thanks for watching and commenting.

@@condor5635 I don't understand how or why that would happen, 2 quarts leaked?
@condor56354 жыл бұрын
Tadders - when you remove drive axles on front wheel drive cars the transmission fluid can leak out from the axle seals on either side when you pull the axle off. . Using this pump allows you to take out the ATF fluid so that when you remove the axles the likelihood of very much fluid leaking out is much reduced or eliminated

Yes, I use it for vacuuming the differential fluid out of my suburban with a long vinyl tube works great. Not very effective, however for a seal transmission because you can’t get to the fluid from the top. The fill plug doesn’t have enough access and there’s no dipstick.

Norman Mendonca - thought about plastic a lot but there are not any nice plastic container that are very clear and that don't collapse under the vacuum pressure - both of which were requirements. Glass is much easier to clean as well and these jars are everywhere and cheap. Actually used this setup last night to remove the water from my AC pan in the attic which was full of water as the main drain had clogged. This easily pumped out gallon and a half of water. Thanks for watching. Appreciate it.

I have no idea what you would want. You just need to figure out based on what size ball valve you want to use. It’s not difficult. I’m not sure if it was a quarter inch ball valve or a half inch ball valve either one would work just need to experiment.

This sounds exactly like what I am looking for. I need to get something for extracting my transmission fluid and I also want to suck oil out of my lawnmower that has no drain plug. I already have a vacuum pump so if I can replicate this system I think i'd be looking pretty good. Any tips on hose sizes or setting for the vacuum pressure value? How much did you have to restrict it to get a nice flow?
@condor56355 жыл бұрын
Frozen Thorn - I just used mine yesterday to suck out the oil from my compressor. After doing that I removed the drain bolt and nothing came out so that’s the way I’m gonna be doing it from now on with that compressor! - it’s a quarter inch ball valve that you need as well as quarter inch tubing and nipples. Easy to put all that together. The vacuum pump puts out way more than enough vacuum so it’s very little opening of the valve once the vacuum is established. Thanks for watching and good luck with your project. You’ll like it a lot

Did you need to make rubber gaskets for the pickle jar lids or just use them how they are? What about sealing the barbs to the lids? How was that accomplished?
@condor56355 жыл бұрын
Snake Doc - the lid seals are perfect as is since they seal pickles and the juices. The barbs on the lids I used some flat washers to give them support and then used epoxy to seal and secure them. Might try permatex gasket sealer as well or in place of. It's just important I found to have the support of thin washers on both sides of the barbed nipples. Never seen a commercial product that could be used instead. I used this system yesterday to remove 145 ounces of ATF fluid for my CV axle job. Took like 5 minutes. Thanks for watching!

@condor56356 жыл бұрын
Yes since the jar still has vacuum pressure in it, it will continue sucking oil out until. The pressure equalizes with atmospheric pressure. This will be the case for 10-20 seconds I am guessing. It is a gradual decrease in amount over that timeframe. Thanks for watching!

@@condor5635 Thanks for the quick reply. I just bought one today to extract brake fluid. My Brake booster went out, so your method looked like the best one to take the oil out. I didn't feel like taking my tire off to bleed the brakes. It looks like it makes things a lot easier and mess free. I just need to head towards home depot now to get some fitting for tubes and a valve. So you would say 1gal jar is recommended for most oil extraction? Thanks for sharing.
@condor56356 жыл бұрын
Fallen Matter - although this will work fine for brake fluid there really isn’t enough brake fluid in my opinion to make this worthwhile. You might only get a pint or two out of the brake fluid reservoir. For brake fluid I bought one of the large syringes that work well to suck out the small amount in the reservoir. Don’t get me wrong - this will work fine as well. It really excels for ATF and engine oil where you have over a quart to extract. @condor56352 жыл бұрын
Even though I have it it is a little overkill for that. I have a large syringe that works well for that
@ilirshqiptar6 жыл бұрын
That's partial fluid change and not all the fluid get out totally. The reason is that there is a lot of fluid on the torque converter. Mixing it it will take very long time and a lot of fluid changes to get near to full fluid change .
@condor56356 жыл бұрын
Special edition - I know all about what's left in the torque converter and yes it would not get it all out but doing this 4-5 times gets you over 90% new fluid. I have done the math. It takes 10 minutes to do and as part of a normal maintenance will keep fluid at a very high quality. I have also done the fluid change by removing the return line and doing multiple cycles of starting the car and pumping out fluid getting a more immediate full change. I prefer this - You don't even have to get dirty. Granted doing a pan drop at some point is required as well to change filter and clean magnets. This technique works great for all sorts of extractions of fluids. I love it. Thanks for watching.
@ilirshqiptar6 жыл бұрын
@@condor5635 Olso I wanted to say that partial fluid transmission changes it will get to 50 % or so maybe 60 % but not totally clear .I did change my transmissions fluid partially and every time I will get 3.5 quarts and replaced with the new one and the fluid still looks red dark kinda. There is a formula mixing the fluids that can give you the long run and how many times you need to get to 90 % like you say here . Now emptying the fluid transmission from the lines and running the engine it will make your transmissions pump running dry and that's near to destroying it . Thanks for replying here.
@condor56356 жыл бұрын
Special edition - yes it’s easy math to figure out but like I said 4-5 of these will get you 90% or more new fluid. My approach is to do this as a part of regular maintenance thereby keeping the fluid at a high quality all the time. As far as doing it via tranny lines I only drain a quart at a time and the refill and repeat. Thanks

@@condor5635 Yes .I agree with you on changing the oil all the time so that way the oil will be in good quality and that way I dont need to change the filter for years if not forever because the filter will work clear all the time . @condor56355 жыл бұрын
1234faabbb used them many many times without issue but having a heavy towel over it wouldn't hurt if that makes you feel better. The key point is don't go crazy with the vacuum pressure since the fluid starts to boil etc and there is really no need since a small negative pressure allows it to flow at a good rate anyway. The valve on the vacuum pump is key to making that happen since your can (and need to) regulate the pressure manually. Get it flowing initially and then turn off the valve. Wait 10-15 seconds until the flow starts to reduce and the open the valve up again.Think of it as you drinking from a straw- you don't need a lot of vacuum to make the fluid flow. Thanks for watching!
