I had this problem on my 2004 jetta 1.8T GLS, I swapped out all 9 shift solenoids and drained the old ATF fluid and replaced it with valvoline max life atf fluid. I’ve put around 700 miles on the car since the job and it’s running perfectly now.

Shifts at RPM not speed, speed sensor under trans mount. Slips during change, servo and valve body replace with new ribbon cable. Hard shifting, replace fluid and filter then check pressure and increase till 60-65psi at idle in drive. Reset trans adaptive after every service above. These transmissions are typically good for 300k. More money in replacing then repairing. The entire, Entire, transmission is computer controlled. Hydraulic pressure only applies to drive or reverse clutch. Slipping in all gears, increase pressure. It's just an Allen bolt. Then put the pan back on. You can't reduce pressure without removing valve body. Valve bodies wear from not changing fluid and having abrasive clutch material flowing through them like liquid sandpaper.

This is the 1.8T with the 09A trans. All three speed sensors are internal. The trans has to be removed to swap the sensors.

If you drive hard the adaptive transmission computer remembers your shifting pattern and stretches your shifting points. Do a reset.

Limp mode is on. The mk4 vw limp mode makes the car take off in 2nd & only shift to 3rd at or above 4k rpms. You have an issue mechanically that's forcing your car into limp mode, to prevent more damage. Take it to an import mechanic.

My Jetta TDI has 220,000 miles on it and I recently took it to Chicago and back which was about 750 miles of driving total, the very next day after getting back from my trip, I pulled up to a ref light and noticed the steering got very stiff to the point I couldn't turn the car, then the car Threw itself forward and the engine lost contact and it took me a good 6 or 7 tries to start it back up since it kept saying the battery was dead. So I brought it home and now the car will not switch gears at all, it runs but it won't switch gears

Bring it to autozone..have em scan it.. transmission control module can fail if fluid wick up wiring..probably a solenoid though..or like I said fluid low

Have you discovered the trouble yet? Mine won't shift into 4th when it's cold/ warm. There are so many causes its mind boggling. Some say to turn on the key, only, no start, push the fuel pedal a few times and then off, then restart. Some have success.

my jetta also has the same problem, the only difference is that the revers also gets a bit tough to engage when the car has been running for the whole day, but in the morning it engages smoothly. what may be the problem?

Your transmission is in limp mode, and The mechanic shop sucks!!! Check transmission codes because you may have an open circuit in one of your solinoids Wich shifts The gears!! I had a 2001 Jetta vr6 with A 01m transmission And I had the code 00268 that is A #6 shift solinoid open circuit so I replaced the solinoid and The wire harness and also had to replace the transmission control module because the module feed 10amps of current which caused the solinoid to burnout in the first place!!!
@ceegee35149 жыл бұрын
your tranny isnt slipping, its just stuck in certain gear, more than likely your transmission speed sensor. if you continue to drive it in this condition and waiting for the 4,000 rpm range you'll end up damaging the transmission horribly and pretty much end up requiring a new one.
@zipot3chullo9 жыл бұрын
Is there a fix in that sensor ? Or just a new tranny?
@ceegee35149 жыл бұрын
Alvaro yovanny Yeah bro your car isn't detecting the correct speed and or rpms to shift correctly . Go online or to junk yards and pull one out , they're not that expensive . Has the issue gotten worse ?
