I tried this and found out two things: 1. acetate transparency sheets do NOT work; the dried gel sticks to it like crazy. Use the plastic sheet protectors. 2. Golden makes something called "self leveling clear gel" that works like a charm. It dries completely clear with no brush marks and peels off the plastic very easily. LOVE the technique!

You can also use a non-stick paint palette sold by Tri-Art. You can find it online at Amazon (and other places) and it's available in sizes 4x8" 8x12", 12x16" and 16x24". You can also find round ones by searching for non-stick palettes. They're reusable and I absolutely love mine!

I wonder if any none stick paint palette would work? I presume the brand doesn't matter?

Luckily, if the acetate is clear, you still get an interesting product that you can use. My transparency had printing. Made things interesting.

I love Patti Brady! I watch her videos and own one of her art books. I am just starting to make acrylic skins, although I use a non-stick artist palette instead of sheet protectors. I've never made them in a 2-step process but I can't wait to try it this way. Thanks for posting this video!

If I were to try this, I would use the skin for a journal cover! Wouldn't that be sooo nice?

A great technique. Pattyi Brady's book is great! I'm thinking that the Ranger 15-Inch-by-18-Inch Inkssentials Craft Sheet will work for making skins. The description says that just about any art or craft product will peel off when dry. It's just $10.72 with Amazon Prime, and I want to make larger skins. (no I don't work for Amazon haha) I love all the techniques Jane has demo-ed on KZbin!! :)

Love watching your videos especially when I have the materials to make what you are doing. I use non-stick aluminum foil by Reynolds Wrap. I haven't found anything that sticks to it yet.

How did you do that? My paint came out in huge globs, it spit and did a hit and miss kind of thing. I used the same kind of paint. Is it moving fast that is best?

you can also do this on white plastic garbage bags that have been taped down smooth and they will peel o ff. Some people have said to use glass, but if the glass or plexiglass has any scratches in it, it will stick. I use a plastic knife to loosen the edge, then it usually peels right up.
