Hello. We have to cover the pot because the water contained in the pot can also evaporate and then form water droplets on the inner walls of the bell jar. We only want to find out if water droplets are formed as a result of transpiration by the plant. So we have to eliminated/ nullify all other potential sources of water inside the belljar. That includes the pot. So we cover the pot. Hope that helped. 🤓

This experiment is just to demonstrate the phenomenon of transpiration. If you see water condense within the plastic bag/belljar, thats enough. No need to weigh the pot. Weighing is for another experiment called, "To determine quantitatively the rate of transpiration in a plant".

You dont want the water from the soil in the pot to condense in the belljar. This will give false positive result.
