Thanks for showing the transplanting process. How big was the plant when you first put it in the container? Curious to understand how quickly (or slowly) it grows to flower.

Thanks for your comment, but before I answer your question, I just want to clarify something first, tree peonies or peonies generally grow fast or slow all depends on the varieties (genes) and your climate as well, two those things will be a huge impact to your peonies to be established and mature. And second my tree peony is Lutea Hybrid, so it is vigorous and the size was pretty big on its own root when I was planting in the container (but all the stems were trimmed about 1 foot long), it had flowers right away in the first year (the coming Spring after planting), and kept flowering every year from then.

Hi..how to you fertilize container peonies?
@smallbackyardfun11 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for the questions! I usually fertilize twice per year for peonies in containers. Firstly, once in the Spring, when I see the buds just swell, I use very low nitrogen fertilizer with ratio just like 5-10-10, or 4-8-6, and top-dress with a light layer of new compost on the top. The second time is in Fall, when I cut down the stems for Herbaceous or Itoh and leaves for tree. I will use bone meal this time. That’s pretty much, I’ve done for my peonies in containers in years.

@@smallbackyardfun Hello, I am new to tree peonies. how is it growing in a container? Do I need to keep in a shed in winter or can I can I leave the plant in the garden?
@smallbackyardfun7 ай бұрын
@@berkcansevgi2714 hi, you can grow tree peonies in the containers in couple years, but eventually when they are mature with big root systems, I am still thinking, they are best in the ground. For Japanese suffruticosa tree peonies, you can grow longer in the containers due to their upright habits. With my containerized tree peonies, I ‘ve never brought in the shed or greenhouse in the winter, I just left them outside as the same location as the summer time. But it depends on your climate zone, I am in zone 7-zone 8, so it should be fine. For any zone below zone 6, you have to be careful when planting peonies in the containers. And you shouldn’t plant peonies in the containers if you are zone 5 and below. Hope that helps!

I would love to know where you purchase your tree peonies from and if you would recommend them? I would like to add one or two to my garden

If you are in US, there are a lot of good sources, Solaris Farm, Adelman peonies, Hollingsworth peonies, Cricket Hill Garden…If you are in Canada then go for Halifax perennials, Pivoines Capano,…. I myself usually go with Adelman and Solaris farm. They have great quality of roots and huge diversity of varieties. Shipping, Tax and custom paper…. are more expensive if you are living outside of America (I am living in Canada, I have to pay more extra amount to have those roots)
