It was rooting for about 3 months. They were sitting near my south facing window getting a lot of bright, indirect light, sometimes a few hours of direct sunlight filtered thru the window. The bright light is key. Also making sure to change the water weekly. You can try adding a couple drops of Superthrive in the water with each water change.

Thanks for the informative video. I have a question about Moss poles. If you use a small pole for a young plant, what happens as the plant grows if the poll isn't the kind that can be extended? Also eventually when the plant gets much larger can a different pole be used?
@SuchPlants
@SuchPlants 2 жыл бұрын
Moss poles are beneficial because it helps a plant grow upright, especially vining plants. Most plants grow bigger quickly if grown upright. But it is extra beneficial if the aerial roots can also grow into the moss pole. It’s difficult if your environment is not humid enough. You can extend the pole if it is designed to extend, or simply switch it for a longer pole, being careful to not damage the aerial roots if they have grown into the pole. It also doesn’t have to be a pole, it can be literally any vertical surface! 😁

Hey bro I had a question I just got a mid cutting I know it’s not the best cut I was wondering do I use a lot of water in the jar or just the root and not the cut stem in the water?
@SuchPlants
@SuchPlants 2 жыл бұрын
Congrats on getting a cutting! If you are able to, only expose the root to the water. Keep the stem above water. With some cuttings, you have no choice but to put both root and stem in the water. In my experience, the stem will be okay if under water; you will just need to keep the water clean and change the water at least once a week. 👍🏼

Sorry to bother again I wanted to know one more thing do u think I really need a humidifier for my plants ??? Will it help??
@SuchPlants
@SuchPlants 2 жыл бұрын
The short answer is yes, it will definitely help! If you’re still on the fence, get a hygrometer so you know what your typical humidity level is indoors. Most homes are around 40% relative humidity which seems to be OK for most plants (in my experience it’s still not enough for sensitive plants that love high humidity). The magic number seems to be anywhere from 60% to 75%. Any higher than that you could be dealing with mold, so a fan for extra air circulation will help keep the mold away. It also depends on the machine and how much area it can cover. Hope this helps! 😆
@SuchPlants
@SuchPlants 2 жыл бұрын
My humidifier is set to maintain 50% humidity, mostly because I’m trying to save water-it uses water fast! I’d like to keep it at least 60% but then the tank goes empty overnight. My philodendron pink princess is right next to my humidifier at 50% and it still has trouble unfurling nicely so the tips of the leaves always have tears! If you experiment with it, you’ll see what works best!

Hello, today I transfer my monstera albo from water to soil. I was bought it almost 1 year ago in clay ball and I put it into the water with clay balls. it grows roots well in it. and it gave an air root also, then it starts to give a new leaf but I am waiting for almost 4 months for it to grow and it didn't. Today I realize that it's roost are rotting in the water, so I decided to transfer it to soil. Will there be any problem? I am ssoo affraid to loose her!
@SuchPlants
@SuchPlants 2 жыл бұрын
Uh oh! Hopefully you cut off all the root rot before potting in soil. The soil must be chunky and you should only water thoroughly when soil is almost completely dry. If you water too soon, you may increase the chance for root rot again. This plant doesn’t mind being dry. If you are brave enough, you can try to save the new leaf/aerial root by taking a cutting!
@1eylul.aksami
@1eylul.aksami 2 жыл бұрын
@@SuchPlants Yes I did cut off the rot roots, infact when I tried to take off the plant from the old pot, they all fall off. But the air root was darker, I didn't cut it off. cause it seems it is alive :) I gave her the first water cause I know it is important but I will try to take her outside today so she can dry. cause I don't have the tropical soil mix so I can't change it again :(

@@SuchPlants okay, now I listened to you and cut the rot air root off and you were right! it was in very bad condition. hope the other roots will be enough to keep it alive :( Now I have another question :) I have another cutting (from the top) It roots well in water and clay balls. But I realize that it has a yellow and brownish part on the umm how can I tell... between the stem and the place where new leaves should come. it's not pregnant, there is no sign of new coming leaves. so I am not sure to took it off the water and put to the soil. what should I do? :( since these are albo, I am so affraid to make a mistake. even though I bought them as cuttings, it was still expensive..
@SuchPlants
@SuchPlants 2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes yellow and brown spots are normal and the new leaf will come out flawless. As long as the roots look healthy, and you are changing the water weekly, and giving bright indirect light, you should be ok! Top cuttings are fun to watch grow!

So once you have roots are you able to put the stem in the dirt and it won’t cause rot?!
@SuchPlants
@SuchPlants 3 жыл бұрын
I would still try to keep the stem above the soil as much as possible to avoid any chances of rot. If your soil mix is chunky enough, the stem will do fine partly in the soil since the chunky soil should dry quickly at the top.

Do the leaves get more varagated over several weeks after unfurling? I have a half moon that just opened 1/2 darker green and 1/2 a lime green. My plant has yellow variegation so i’m wondering if I might see some changes in the leaves with time?
@SuchPlants
@SuchPlants 3 жыл бұрын
In my experience with my albo, the leaves will unfurl with white and light green, but only the light green will eventually darken. In your case, there is less chlorophyll in the lime green so you can expect the darker green to get darker and the lime green to remain lighter. The lime green might even get lighter. I have a syngonium albo that sometimes unfurls with a very light green that eventually turns white. But I’m not sure how yellow variegation develops. Keep me posted! 😆

Hi thanks for the videos they’re very clear. I just got sent a syngonium Albo stem cutting with one leaf. I’m trying to work out what to do it was supposed to be fully rooted :/ I haven’t done this before !! Is it important for the top end of the stem to be above the water line ? Please help it cost a lot considering it’s not a full plant would be v grateful thank you Abigail
@SuchPlants
@SuchPlants 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Congrats on your new cutting! Generally speaking, you want the aerial root to be below water. The top end of the stem prefers to be above water because it can have a tendency to rot if exposed to water. So it’s best to avoid it. However, if the top end has calloused, then it can be under water just fine. Good luck!

The ones in this video are growing nicely as well. It took a few weeks for them to push out new growth. One of them pushed out a small leaf with like 80% solid white 🤭. The soil, however, developed some soil mites. Not really harming the plant, but that’s the main reason I want to repot it. I highly recommend you get someone experienced with plants to take care of them. The day before my vacation, I gave my plants a good drink of water and closed the window blinds so they wouldn’t dry up as fast. Good thing is that the soil would stay moist longer. Bad thing is they didn’t get a lot of sun (my grow light was still scheduled to turn on 12 hrs a day so they weren’t completely in the dark). I also had my humidifier running the entire time with the room door shut. So ultimately a humid, shady environment. I found that this was really good for only a week before things started worsening-yellowing/falling leaves, too humid, etc. The second week I instructed my plant sitter to open the window blinds and water the plants that had dried up. Things slowly got better. Only about 3 plants really suffered. This is why I would highly recommend someone who is experienced with plants! 😅 Hope this helps! I should do a video on this for my next vacation 🤔 There are really helpful videos other people have made on this subject as well!

Honest question: Why do you transplant things into soil? If you can grow something in water, you avoid all the plagues, you dont have to water it, and they keep growing anyways
@SuchPlants
@SuchPlants 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. I think growing in water is great but not ideal if you have 100 plants. Even if you change the water weekly, there is still build up inside of the container, and you would have to take each pot to the sink to scrub them down. That’s a lot of work for every plant! I already skip water changes on my water props 😅 Water also doesn’t provide all the nutrients a plant needs and adding fertilizer can sometimes encourage unwanted bacterial growth if not maintained regularly. As long as there is no pests, growing in soil is more low maintenance in my opinion.
@kirnobi6974

@@SuchPlants I dont know about monsteras (im doing the experiment right now). But I havent changed the water of my pothos in 6-4 months, and they are growing like crazy. I make sure that they rest in transparent glass pots, so the roots can get light too. I had the problem that putting the roots in opaque containers would make them start rotting.
@SuchPlants
@SuchPlants 2 жыл бұрын
@@kirnobi6974 some plants do better in water than other plants. Pothos are such fast growers and can grow in so many different conditions. But just because it “grows” in water, it doesn’t mean the plant is “thriving”. Most likely, your pothos in water will never achieve its fullest potential. If you want the biggest leaves, like they are in the wild, they need more than just water. Their aerial roots eventually find their way into the soil where they get so many nutrients from worms and other organic matter plus rain water. It also takes years to achieve those huge leaves in their natural habitat. So yes, plants can “grow” in water, but it doesn’t mean they will “thrive”. ☺️ In the end, it’s your plant and you can do whatever you want with it lol. I’m happy for your pothos and I hope your monstera is happy too! 😁
