If the plant is still small like the ones in the video you want to take them all off otherwise they will put their energy into growing the fruit instead of growing the plant. One the plant has got bigger and established it will throw out a lot more flowers because it has a lot more space for flowers ultimately leading to more peppers.

After 6 weeks in my basement nursery, I have had my peppers in a huge bay window full sun all day for the last full month. I topped them two weeks ago and they are spectacularly lush and bushy. I moved them outside yesterday under a covered patio, it is 18 degrees celcius sunny and a nice breeze. Today they look a little stressed I assumed all those days in the full sun had weather hardened them. Is it normal for them to look stressed under the conditions I have mentioned, I have 140 pepper plants and I dont want anything to go wrong.

I wanted to cry watching such great green growth that worked hard to please me with its efforts. Lol What is the advantage to bushy versus taller other than strength? I’d be concerned about insects and ? blight if peppers grew closer to the soil level. If you start your Peppers off in a larger container prior to the last transplant, is that ok as well? I used 1.5 L & 1.85 L size plastic Ice Cream containers to start two plants each in. Thoughts? If I don’t have 1 of those vented domes will they still germinate fine? If the final transplant goes into a 5 Gallon Pail is that a suitable size for good root growth and productive fruit harvest?
@123loveyourland5 жыл бұрын
Victoria Heart, yes it strengthens them, which is better than having a tall, lanky plant that falls over easily, and because the pruning allows for lateral growth, you have more foliage for buds to form, more plant surface area for photosynthesis, etc. And yes, your containers for starts are just fine. The dome I use helps speed germination a bit, but it’s not critical. Happy growing! :)

What happens if you bury the leaves when transplanting?
@123loveyourland2 жыл бұрын
If you bury the leaves, they are cut off from sunlight and thereby photosynthesis isn’t occurring, nor is sugar production, so the upper leaves have to work harder to maintain the sugars in the buried leaves. Just not a good use of the plant’s energy. :)
@MANOFTHEYARD Жыл бұрын
What would happen if you leave the flowers?
@123loveyourland Жыл бұрын
Then the plant will use a bunch of energy to produce fruit, and you don’t really want that to happen while the plant is so small. You want it to spend its energy in growing a big healthy plant first. :)
@61481444 жыл бұрын
Why is it necessary to Remove the flowering bud when the plants are young?
@leilalacson18124 жыл бұрын
So they can grow more leaves and branches. Plants can only focus on one thing so when they flower, they start focusing their energy to make the fruit and the tree doesn't grow anymore. It'll focus on bearing fruits. So we need to pinch them off until we're good with the tree.

Thank you so much. I've been looking for information about how to do this and you really explained it the best. Subscribed! Thanks for explaining what the growth tip looks like! Mine are quite unclear. I bought a 1 meter tall chilli pepper plant from a garden store and I'm noticing that it's a little windy for it here in Mediterranean Malta. It's relatively bushy at the top but the stem is very tall so the bushyness on top keeps acting like a sail and tipping it over. Do you think I can just bury the stem a little deeper? Or should I keep clipping the buds and wait for it to get stronger? I really don't want to prune it all the way down to get more branching lower down. I'd appreciate any advice. And well done again!

Hi Karen, another great video! Can I ask why it's beneficial to plant the pepper deeper when transplanting? And, do you mix in fertilizer with your seed starting mix as well, or, is that too early for fertilizer?
@123loveyourland9 жыл бұрын
Pepper plants will grow "some" roots off the buried stems (not like tomatoes, but some). Planting them lower allows for this extra root growth, and also sturdies the plant. As far as adding trifecta to the soil before you transplant, the answer is yes, I definitely add it to the soil before I transplant. (I actually talk about that twice in the video.) :)
@sandray0019 жыл бұрын
+Love Your Land Cool :) Didn't know peppers grow extra roots as well. Yeah, I see that you add fertilizer to the soil before you transplant (definitely going to start doing this ;). I wanted to know if you add fertilizer to the soil that you plant your seeds in.
@123loveyourland9 жыл бұрын
+sandray001 - Ohhhhhh! Duh, sorry. Ok so in the last, I have not, because seeds & tiny seedlings don't need it and can't do anything with it. However, I chose to this time (using a lesser "dose" in the soil) because, it will be available to the seedling the moment it's able to take it up. DO NOT top dress a tiny seedling with plant food, however. This WILL kill your seedling. If you have any other questions, please feel free to chime in on the Love Your Land FB page! I'm happy to answer any you have. :)

I highly discourage the advice on pruning. I am growing over 80 varieities and experimented pruning. The plants will fork on their own. The one thing pruning will do is set you back a month, not ideal in a lot of growing zones.

@@Lyndsay-jh2um all right. But some of the practitioners say pruning a tree makes the trunk stronger . The tree become more bushier. And also production rate increases. I'm confused. I was thinking to prune my "Bhoot Jolokia peppers. Leave a suggestion.
