That's something I dislike in this game. Setup a few workhg lines and boom, you will soon be swimming in money and you will never have to change anything in those lines. Okay for medium difficulty, but on hard it should be more challenging. I remember that in RT2 the cities demands changed as times goes on (for example, no more crude milk after year x), so it made the player rethink lines from time to time.

I may have missed something, but on your Romsey Oil Line, you could have the trains bringing oil back, after having having delivered crude. At the moment you are trucking it, but the trains could easily drop it off on the way back, rather than return empty through the station.

This would also reset the trains speed.. Not sure if it would have a more negative impact on its current financials though

When expanding roads in towns: think about avoiding T shape junctions and make X shape crossroads. Just extend the roads a little bit. It will prevent houses to appear at the the junctions and make your future expansions nice and tidy.

But in the world of traffic management you want to avoid x junctions like the plague

If you're using parallel tracks mod, the automatic parallel one will always be on the left of the track you put, so if you drag the right side, the parallel track will work as intended. On 3 tracks, it will put it to its left and right, and on 4, it will put one more on the left

I personally try to avoid using a signal where it could potentially stop a train over a set of points and block the points. It can cause problems with clogging up lines later on.
@crazyrobots65653 жыл бұрын
In other games, that is the reason for chain signals. But I didn't see the option in this game?

I must admit i was confused at the placing of a signal just after a point. Maybe I need to sign up for the tutorial :-)
@xZise3 жыл бұрын
@@crazyrobots6565 You don't need this option in this game. The track behind a train is automatically cleared, so as soon as a train clears a point, another train can pass them. So you only need a signal before entering a block and not to exit a block (like in the real world).
@crazyrobots65653 жыл бұрын
@@xZise but how would the issue being discussed now be resolved? A train could enter the junction, then stop in the junction. How in this game (or in real life) do you prevent that train from stopping in the junction?
@xZise3 жыл бұрын
@@crazyrobots6565 A train (usually) only stops at a signal or in a station, so the next signal after a junction (in the direction of travel) is placed in such a manner that a stopped train won't block the junction. If you want, try looking up "path signals" for the game OpenTTD as they work the same in Transport Fever 2. Maybe it is clearer with images :-)

@drewferg93 жыл бұрын
I'm not the first to point this out in this series, but in case you decide to make a stand alone signalling video: It's a path-based signalling system. Do not put release signals directly after a junction, they need to be a train's length away from the points. You can cause a major train jam when wagons overhang the points on a busy junction. Had it happen plenty of times in TpF1, seen it happen to plenty of youtubers since then as well. Learn from our mistakes! :)

38:50 you dont need the arrows, keys , and . are working for that as well (might be depending on keyboard layout, the ones above right alt), they also work for all buildings also about a signaling tutorial, pls understand signals in this game first before making them, your signaling is highly inefficient, some points to improve: - there are no release signals needed - non 1 way signals are super important on shared lines in interchange and station areas - depot merges never need a signal on the running tracks, they are best put in in the middle of a block with a signal stopping the train from the depot. you never want a running line to wait for a train coming out of the depot just to example this: the depot signals at 42:00, there would have been 2 signals needed to cover everything, right before the depot line merges onto the main line, passing trains clear the tracks automatically when they've passed and you got now trains with passengers possibly stopping a lot longer for the depot train to go since the depot train is in the block for much longer with low speed. Next is just a personal preferance but id also have made it 2 way signals with double track merge since that way is more realistic and i had some situations already where i actually drove a train home into the depot ^^

One thing that I am not sure of is the use of signals directly after a merge point on rail. As I understand it, if that signal blocks, then a train could stop at it (the signal) and then it (the stopped train) would block the merge or crossover point and hold up yet another train. Note: I graduated from the Factorial school of train switch engineering so this game may do things differently... In that game the "clearing" switch was placed far enough from the merge point that a train could stop at it without blocking the merge. Learned a few other things, thanks for the videos, very useful! Cheers,

*Yes!* Well.. what I do with commuter trains is put an MU and then some older, lighter weight passenger cars that don't limit the top speed by more than 15-20 km/h. (In Transport Fever, that would be with the help of mods, a Red Arrow and two kkStB third class express coaches. This train still accelarates kind of well, with higher capacity, but is limited to 110 km/h.)

You do NOT need a road to connect a train station to a bus stop or even a truck stop. The RR station can connect directly to them, same as a port can.
@couplingrhino3 жыл бұрын
Just FYI, you can compare the output of a factory to the rate of the line supplying it. Once you know the annual output, you can precisely calibrate the number of vehicles and/or carriages needed for maximum profit. Another thing to consider is the weight of a loco compared to its power. The maintenance cost of vehicles is calculated based on Power (KW or HP) * capacity. The weight, top speed or tractive effort have no effect on maintenance cost of locomotives; you do pay slightly more maintenance for faster carriages. This means that trains with a better power to weight ratio will be a lot more profitable, as they can move more wagons or weight for a given maintenance cost (= power). Revenue per delivered unit is calculated based on top speed of the vehicle * distance.
