I got it for a discounted price because I already had Transport Fever 1. I only played it for an hour so far, but I can already say it’s the most fun I’ve ever had in a tycoon game. The only thing that’s disappointed me is the Asian vehicle set, because it’s mainly Russian and Chinese stuff. You hear “Asian”, you’d expect more Japanese or Indian trains. Thankfully, the modding community is quite strong, so that can quickly be resolved. I also saw that they optimised boats and planes to work far better than they did in TpF1, evident in the fact that I used them quite a bit when I _barely_ used them in the last game. Same goes for industry. It had way too many levels to work efficiently without a lot of planning, so now it’s a lot simpler, which I’m more than okay with. Except that livestock is no longer a thing, so if you plan on delivering food by rail, you _will_ need more than one train. I get framerate issues a little early on, but I don’t have a high-end gaming computer (my parents use it for work!) so it doesn’t come as a surprise to me. I could improve it (i.e. by uninstalling all the mods I have for TpF1), but I personally don’t even care about framerate that much. Even on relatively low settings, it still looks gorgeous, so I’m not mad that I have to reduce the settings. Bottom line: if you found Transport Fever 1 fun, you’ll find Transport Fever 2 even _more_ fun. Just be aware it might slow down a bit.

Nice, I never played TF1 but I am sure a lot of people will find this info useful. Thank you for contributing here!
@TotoDG4 жыл бұрын
Well, I have invested over 300 hours of time into the other game, so take my opinion with a pinch of salt. Just as a side note: not a lot of people realise Transport Fever 2 is actually a third-generation game. Yes, it’s a sequel to Transport Fever 1, but that was also a sequel to Train Fever. It was fun, but you could tell it was the studio’s first time making a game of that calibre. EDIT: It was their first game _in general._
@wta15183 жыл бұрын
@@TotoDG yeah, TPF2 definitely feels like a third time game. There are a few bugs, but they seem to have been ironed out. They biggest issue that I have with this game is the community. What a bunch of complainers! The devs made a post wishing people happy holidays, and guess what half the comments are? PEOPLE COMPLAINING THAT THE DEVS ARE SPENDING TIME TRYING TO BE NICE! There are comments complaining that this game is a buggy mess (it isn't), people complaining that the economy is too simple (guess what? There are mods for that.) people complaining that they need mods for some niche thing that only a few people actually want (If you want it that badly, you can spend the 30 seconds it takes to download the mod from the Steam Workshop).
@TotoDG3 жыл бұрын
@@wta1518. Yeah, but to be fair, not many shows or games have great fanbases. Honestly, unless the community ends up ruining the things I enjoy (or if the creators mess it up themselves), I just tend to ignore the community and try to enjoy it on its own merits. Transport Fever 2's no different, and so far, I still love it.
@wta15183 жыл бұрын
@@TotoDG I also tend to ignore the community, but it is a bit sad to see, especially compared to the communities of some of my favorite games like Cities: Skylines (which to be fair is mostly people who are glad they don't have to deal with EA anymore), Satisfactory (mainly because the devs have a good sense of humor), Raft (It's a fairly small community, and the majority are people who really like survival games), and Software Inc. (which is a fairly niche game developed by a very small team that is able to deliver fairly constant updates).
@tpmiranda4 жыл бұрын
FPS count is hurt mainly by AI. It was a problem in TF1, and it is a problem in TF2, to the point where there are mods that actually remove half the population or more just to ease the CPU load. And each vehicle is also an AI entity so, the more vehicles you have in the map, the worse the CPU load.
@benrowlinson3 жыл бұрын
This is a really solid review - instant like-and-subscribe. The full-disclosure bit at the beginning is a masterpiece of the form, but, for all that, I have to take issue with the thing about the framerate drops. This is a logistics simulator at heart, and doing such a thing as it ought to be done will inevitably involve a ton of algorithms with non-predeterminable runtimes. Given that, whether or not the code has been fully optimised to run native on the broadest possible range of C|GPUs is beside the point. In fact, I don't believe it'd be all that unreasonable to say that if the frame rate on at-heart-logistics-simulator isn't dropping to a crawl every now and then, it's entirely safe to assume that the game is a good deal more shallow than it pretends - that there's some kind of dark electronic artistry involved.

seems like a decent review so far. getting up to 60+ fps on high, after release, on a semicondutor-crisis 970 that already was subpar like 10 years ago feels a bit of an odd "argument" in terms of criticizing "lack of optimization". Thankfully you somewhat noticed mentioning economic/logistics or tycoon sim as an actual genre over meaningless "sandbox" buzzwords at least after a while. :)

I played Transport Fever 1 quite a bit and thought it a really good game, very much in the mold of Transport Tycoon. My only criticism of both of the above is that they are very rail centred. In Transport Fever 1, making money from aircraft is almost impossible and updating or expanding airports is often not possible either because of terain, building growth etc. The distribution of goods to where you want them is also difficult in TF1 as the first station on a route often grabs everything. Has any of this been addressed in TF2?

The gray screen for managing lines or vehicles is a death color and too bright even with brightness turned down and takes away from immersion. 2. The resource icons look like a 6 year old's chalk scribbles on the sidewalk, not even HD quality. 3. Names of towns, depots etc. disappear when you need them most, to name and set lines. Much improved over TF1. However TF1 and TF2 are GPU killers. I have an AMD FX 6300 16GB and GForce 730 2GB. The game tells me I need 8GB of VRam to play on High graphic settings. It also has Very High and Ultra settings that look great but I would imagine you need a super high end gaming PC. I have seen KZbinrs start getting lag once the map starts filling up with killer PC's. My PC is a 2016 and don't want to spend $2500 + for a new PC.

It really is not worth it, for 50 CAD at least. It actually has less important features than the TF1 as well, very poor performance across the board for many and for me i cannot even play the game. The second i zoom out to look at the map it start stuttering loads up 16gb of ram usage and then crashes as i "only" have 16gb. Even when i play looking at the floor zoomed all the way in it will crash every hour or so. Then you have the absolutely dumbfounded design choice of not letting you edit two trains to mix and match wagons/locomotives. Town's max sizes are limited by their initial size which is just unacceptable for a game of this type where you can start from nothing in 1850 and are suppose to be able to build a huge city with all kinds of transport no matter where you start. Then you have the absolutely dumbed down cargo system that doesn't make sense from a realism standpoint at all, all towns/cities just need two goods and that is it. The smarter design choice would have been to make towns have two specialized or in demand goods or something but needing all of them in the end. I wouldn't recommend it honestly, and the only reason keeping me from refunding it is the 25% discount i got for owning tf1 and the fact that mods will hopefully fix it in the future. But it will need an overhaul mod which will most likely take months to make.
