ᴴᴰ⁶⁰ MTA New York City Bus: Rapid Transit Series (Novabus RTS-06) Retirement Ceremony

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) held its retirement ceremony for its oldest high-floor bus, the Rapid Transit Series, better known as the RTS right at front of headquarters at 2 Broadway, NY, NY.
The agency tested a demo of this bus model back in 1979. The RTSs started their service in New York City in 1981, ranging from various bus manufactures such as GMC, TMC, and Novabus. For 38 years, this bus model has brought joy and memories. On April 30th, 2019, the RTSs made the final runs in NYC. New York City is the last city in the world to have these childhood behemoths. This is the RTS tribute.

Being 23 years old and living in los angeles i was never able to go to new york to ride these beasts one last time. I hadnt rode these since i was a kid and miss them dearly. I feel mixed emotions from sadness to anger since now these rts's will be part of my memory forever. R.I.P i will never forget you.

These RTS buses could carry more passengers than those low floors anyday. True NYC buses that took a beating everyday and never seen a broken down in my 32 years of living in NYC mostly in The Bronx. Going to miss these legends.

Every time I was waiting for the bus I was like, “I hope it’s a RTS” Now I say when an old Xcelsor bus comes, “well it wouldn’t of been a RTS anyway”. I miss these!

I like the fast takeoff from 5249, the last RTS made for MTA and fittingly the last to retire and the last to depart from South Ferry, as it is being delivered to the New York Transit Museum. I rode the RTS for Long Beach Transit (The first RTS operator), OCTA, NYCT (MTA), and Disney Transport. The MTA was the only agency I rode a Series 50-powered RTS

The reason that XE40 was there was to showcase the zero gas emissions fleet. On other hand, the RTS farewell retirement ceremony went well.

The XE40 bus was pleading for the rts bus not to retire, but the stupid humans wasn't listening to the xe40 bus. Xe40 was there only for support for the rts bus, they're friends.

This is really a good bye present because, I just transferred out of Micheal J.Quill. #5249 is really the #1 RTS for history. This is also going to become my first time seeing a NYCT RTS with black trimming and black black. I have seen none with those since I came to USA in 2007. @@TransportationHub I was stuck between FB and MJQ with RTS', which is the last to run ? Now since I transferred to ENY last weekend, still if the RTS' were here today in service they're still not as best as Quill's RTS'. #4970 was my main RTS fav from ENY Depot while I was still at Quill.

What is a D60? I stopped paying attention after the RTS and Nova LF came out.

@@trainluvr The D60HF is the city's first-ever Articulated bus that was manufactured by New Flyer between 1996 to 2004. It retired from service last month.
