I feel like people forgot that when Megatron was revived they used other parts to replace his damaged ones and in TF3 he was weak due to being mortally wounded in TF2. Optimus Prime the entire time got stronger and newer weapons. It’s not Michael Bay and plot holes, it’s us not paying attention.

He’s barely in the goddamn movie, I hate how he’s shoved to the side in the last 4 movies. He was genuinely terrifying in the 07 film, he just made you constantly think the Autobots were going to lose. In the later movies he is swapped out for mindless, weak, and sh*tty Megatron. Optimus has never been as big or strong as megatron. Megatron has always overpowered Optimus. However, Optimus was faster, more agile, and smarter than megatron. His battle strategy was much better than megatron's, as like you said, he was a brawler. I think that what we see as the series goes on is Optimus consistantly adjusting his battle strategy, and using his speed to outclass megatron. At no point through any of the films did Optimus ever over power megatron except when combined with jetfire. He only out classes/outsmarts him, after taking many hard overpowering blows. Optimus was a scientist and a prime after all. However, his body degradation sure looks like it plays a role after watching your video.

I always thought it was because Sam forced the Allspark into Megatrons core which permanently messed with his entire body since, you know. its basically his heart. On top of that he was left in the bottom of the ocean for a pretty long time and revived down there so the water could have messed up his insides or maybe some sea creatures got in there. TF1: Got killed by a human. Would have killed Prime in a 1v1 fight despite being shot at by jets and soldiers. TF2: In the Forest fight Prime was wrecking Megatron, Starscrean and Grindor all by himself until Megatron stabbed him from behind. In their second fight Megatron gets beat again and gets part of his face shot off. TF3: In the final fight Megatron almost kills Sentinel with a suprise attack AND even though he had the advantage against a one armed Optimus, he still lost to him. I'm still mad about that. TF4: Lockdown ruined the highway fight so no clear victor. Personally think Galvatron would've won since there was never a rematch in the film for obvious reasons. TF5: Megatron had no chance with 4 Autobots attacking him at the same time. Edit: You came here for the reply thread, not my summary

Just to point out on cybertron it wasn't a 1v1 between optimus and megatron. It was a war. As such it stands to reason that strength alone wouldn't necessarily carry the day. Tactics, numbers, overall strategy etc. people bring up the city battle as an example of optimus restraining himself due to concern for human casualties in a condensed urban area where he cannot accurately determine there's no humans nearby. They may be hiding in the nearby buildings. whereas in the forest battle prime is more free to let loose as the only human in danger nearby is sam. I don't think its fair to say megatron is not skilled in blades as given the transformers are milennia old. I'd suggest he is adjusting to his new form as you say which is only a temporary weakness as he could adapt. After revenge of the fallen its much more feasible megatron is weaker as he is still injured

Megatron was rebuilt with parts from a 'SMALL' Decepticon when they revived him in the second film at the bottom of the ocean. The Doctor said 'Need parts... kill the small one!'. No doubt the smaller parts are a lot weaker, contributing to Megatron being weaker overall.

Technically, Megatron was really powerful in TF 1, because he could shrug of an ion blast from Optimus,and still shoot him. He could even take plenty of hits and still not die. But in rotf, be was weaker because he wasn't used to his new body, the bots that fixed him placed an allspark piece into his cavity,which gives Megatron a new body and a different fusion canon. In dark of the moon, he becomes a truck for a reason,he was tired and weakened,and he had a shotgun instead. In aoe, he was at least stronger than his rotf and dotm counterparts,but we still don't get to see what more he is capable of. In tlk,he had and even shorter screentime,but his abilities are stronger as well compare to rotf and dotm. A major inconsistency is how damaged megatron is at the end of TF1 (transformers 1) if we look at the scene where Sam pushes the all-spark into his chest, we see megatron when he dies is still in one piece, later when he get's dropped in the ocean he has sustained MASSIVE damage with both an arm and a leg missing along with other (semi) minor injuries and damages. This leads me to ask: HOW?, how did he sustain such damage when he was (mostly) intact while laying on the street? It makes NO sense to me.

Megatron is weaker because, he hasn't adapted with his new body in ROTF, after that, he became weaker because he is damaged in his face and other body parts, and he changed his gun into a cybertronian shotgun, in TF4, he became better because the energon hole in his chest can dodge and destroy optimus's energon sword, and tf 5, he became better too, his new body is rebuild again by Quintessa and his new body is even stronger, so, that is my opinion.

Optimus performs way better when he is fighting in a forest setting away from population he was able to defeat a dinobot by himself in the fourth film and take on mutiple decepticons at once in the second film. Believe or not, but in TF5, if Megatron got back up of any decepticon in final fight,he would definitely easily wiped all autobots including optimus, as it was 1v3 in last. Still he defeated hound and Bee and also outpowered optimus with one hand only. Only mistake he made was he got emotional. ("We were brother Once") .

I agree to most of your explanation except for the first movie and Optimus training For the first movie, to me it truly seems like Optimus did held back due to wanting to establish an alliance with the human plus he is not used to fighting in a foreign environment which everything can easily crack or die by them just bumping into it and he does not know which is allowed and not allowed to be destroy. Plus pulling punches against the champion in gladiatorial combat (Megatron) is never a good idea. For his training, I don't really think that he has much because if you played or seen game plays of "War for Cybertron" and "Fall of Cybertron" story wise you can clearly see that Optimus has already built the skills on the Cybertron ground already. Plus both of them are almost equal, suggesting deficiencies are the balance breaker to their victory or defeat. I could be wrong so feel free to correct me. :D

Megatron in TF-2 got weaker because of his new weapon choices. In fact, if one were to watch the scene where Megatron was dumped in the Laurentian Abyss, and the scene when he leaves the Laurentian Abyss, his arms resemble that of his original form which was more balanced. There also wasn't much of a size difference to be seen after he was dumped as well which meant that his imbalanced body and weaknesses came to be after he got his new fusion canon. While we don't know why Megatron decided to switch weapons, it's possible that the new fusion canon was just given to him by the Fallen in hopes of making him stronger when in actuality, it did the exact opposite because Megatron wasn't used to the new weapon and body. Of course, Megatron still kept the canon to respect his master and to be fair, it had potential. Also, you were right about Megatron not having any sword combat experience. In his original TF-1 form, he used a chain ball as a melee weapon(and even so, it was only used once against Sam which leads me to believe that it was a last resort weapon) so he obviously wouldn't know how to use one effectively against Optimus who managed to briefly use his Energon blade to take down Bonecrusher on the highway and improve to the point where they became a key weapon in his arsenal. Also, one should take note that Megatron didn't even bother with new swords or melee weapons while recovering in TF-3 and only opted for a fusion shotgun. He also tried to fix his imbalance as one can see that Megatron has ditched some of the armor on his right shoulder and arm to fix his imbalance.
