TraPac Los Angeles Terminal

To maximize productivity while maintaining the highest safety standards, TraPac’s Los Angeles terminal uses a combination of electric and hybrid automated straddle carriers, automated stacking cranes, and rail mounted gantry cranes for on-dock rail. The automated cargo handling equipment at TraPac reduces emissions of PM and NOx by more than 99% and reduces GHG emissions by over 92% per TEU. Additionally, the automated process enables us to conduct yard operations virtually round the clock and minimizes the potential for human error and improves safety, helping TraPac avoid unexpected interruptions that impact productivity and profitability.

A lot of automation and ILWU job loss coming. NEED A GOOD HARD STRIKE. We will see a lot of job lost in LB and LA. Lots of waste of money to build here.

Nonsense. Back in 2008, the ILWU signed a contract that granted the terminals at the Port of L.A. unlimited rights to automate the port operations, in exchange for an increase in pension benefits to more than $95,000 a year. The ILWU knew exactly what the impact of automation was going to be years ago.

The union should never do maintenance or repair on any machine, unless it has a cab for the operator to sit in while it’s operating automatically…for safety purposes
