The new dams are probably from young ones that have been kicked out of the colony and are starting there own colony. I use to trap beaver with my dad. We trapped muskrat, coon, mink, otter, fox and beaver. Even though i no longer trap it was a great survival skill to learn if things ever get bad. I have a ton of great memories of the time spent trapping with my dad and all the lessons i learned from him. I enjoy everything about your channel even your land. I bet its a great spot to bunt for moose and bears!!!!
@deadpinecollective4 ай бұрын
What a great experience for you and your dad. I’m lucky to share this experience with so many kids! Yes you are probably right about the young starting another lodge. Love that cabin you have there great spot to relax for sure. Chainsaws can almost always be counted on to give us a workout before they start lol. My guess the beavers 🦫 are planning a new home they will build a house in the new raised water of the pond for their new home in the upper layer, I guess what I'm saying is they are building a new pond at the upper level. There was an area here just outside of town where beavers had created several layers of ponds by building several dams it was in a small area was awesome to see how they had it engineered. Great that you are exposing the kids to it that great to get them involved in nature. Man Id kill for that property (figuratively speaking of course lol) because I don't think it sucks that's paradise excellent for wildlife, like the beavers lol, hope you have an awesome week
@deadpinecollective3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. You are bang on. There could be a few reasons for all the dams. They are definitely building more lodges, could be a 2yr old moving out, or just extra bank lodges that they build for “hangouts” but not the main lodge. Also as others pointed out, they build more dams upstream to control the water around the main lodge so it doesn’t flood. I’m sure it’s a combo of all these theories. I definitely have a great spot that I love for trapping, hunting, and hanging out! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Very much appreciated!

Very very few people regardless of age could do what Shawn is doing. Not only does he have the skills, but the mental fortitude. A rare combo needed. I was happy to donate the framed windows and door. I have a few more bigger ones for him, but I need one for my cabin to replace the one over the sink, then I’ll deliver what I don’t need to him. I was able to drop off another small care package on Friday since I had to drive by (with a short detour) where he launches his boat. Understandable. I have a previous cabin video explaining what it m doing cutting down small green trees, mostly balsam, to open up some sunlight and also clearing around the cabin for fire protection. The big trees that are down have been for awhile and are pretty punky and not great for firewood., I do talk about this in the video and show the amount of dead standing trees that need to also come down which would be much better for fire wood, which I will be doing. I have far more than I need for the small cabin, so I’m burning mostly to clean up the area. Thanks for watching and hopefully you check out a few other videos 😁

Water control. They will build multiple dams.. the higher the water the safer it is for them to access new food
@deadpinecollective3 ай бұрын
Yes, I believe that is what it is now that a few of you have mentioned it. Thanks for the info!

Perhaps the beavers invading you were kicked out of the parent colony , and the nature recourse is to not move too far. They don’t really have logic, only reactions. Don’t try to understand them if you don’t already.
@deadpinecollective3 ай бұрын
Ya that is one theory that is definitely a possibility. The other suggestion which actually makes lots of sense is the beavers are trying to control the water level below the big dam where the main lodge is located. Thanks for the comment!
@SwampDonkey5303 ай бұрын
@@deadpinecollective that’s also true, but they don’t have to think about controlling water for their benefit, that is how they are wired to begin with.

If the beaver have their way, that swamp will be a lake. Then you will have lake front property.

Hopefully 😁. However this is the first time since I’ve owned the cabin that they have really tried to dam up the outflow. It’s awesome because the pond is really shallow and I’d love to have a lake 😁. I won’t be trapping this family or breaking the dam at the end of the pond. I’ll just keep breaking the one flowing into the pond.

Beaver are all about feed. They’ll channel and dam anywhere there is feed. The water is protection from wolf and coyotes

Sweet, thanks for checking out the channel!

Yes I do understand the feed thing, but the creek by the cabin would not be a food source, but as others have commented, they will make a series of dams to really control water level all around their territory, which would include for feed and water levels at the lodge. Thanks for the feedback.

Why would you not cut all that wood into firewood instead of burning it.
@deadpinecollective4 ай бұрын
I have much bigger, drier and better wood for fire. I need to clear the area for forest fire protection and better light to the cabin. I may use some of the bigger ends for firewood.

That was a comment I got from another viewer and one theory I never even thought of, but the more I think of the area the more I think that is exactly what is going on. I’m glad you commented! Thanks!!
