hedge balls off a osage orange or also called hedge trees here in Missouri.

We always called them monkey balls as far back as I remember. But yeah I've heard them called hedge apples or hedge balls as well. They can be dangerous for grazing livestock when they try to swallow them whole. I am pretty sure the exact name of the tree is Osage orange trees.
