Trapping house sparrows successfully for blue birds and purple martins

I remember in 1993 my first bluebird house with eggs, I tore out a nest of house sparrows and eggs just 75ft away, I didn't know what kind of bird the HS was well the next day coming home from work, I see my bluebirds in the maple singing a sad song, I looked and the HS had busted their 5 eggs and through them on the ground, male HS was on the house with his chest puffed out, making a hissing sound, it was very demonic looking. The next day I when to get the ST-1 trap, and I sit it on the pole with a bungee cord, caught the male HS next day, I rung his neck. The bluebirds when back to the house and nested, I will never forget that, it's very important to get rid of the HS, going on 32-33 years now with bluebirds nesting every year. Love the Eastern Bluebirds.

Shelter is the key. My sparrows are so happy now that they can go into the box.

If you need sparrows to start the trap, how do you get the initial sparrows? Bit of a catch-22.

Well that's actually easy to answer. You have to use more than one type of trap. The wire trap that sits on top is called an ST1. I have that in other videos you will catch a house sparrow in that trap before you catch it in the repeater. The other option is Nest box traps. I have Nest box traps for every occasion you can think of. I have one Martin house that has 12 sparrow trap doors on it. Watch my videos you don't hear how sparrows in the background.

take a couple videos in May and July. bet you catch alot of them during those months too. Little juvies hopping into the trap, followed by the parents. I do like how you have it rigged for them to go inside. That way the cats and other wild game can't mess with them at night.

Hey. I built a box and attached it to my Trap. I put a Sparrow in trap from nest box. Caught 3 sparrows. I've only seen 6.

life is good with dogs , nothing is ever escaped out of this with the exception of me not latching the door properly. That happens once in awhile and it's damn near impossible to ever catch a house sparrow in there again. I have to rely on Nest box traps to get another one. You only need 1 to catch 400 more
