Thanks, your plans work great, I didnt have a dado blade so I just drilled a 1/2 hole and cut to them with the table saw. I like how little waste there is .

I did an experiment last year, where I had two boxes beside each other one had no holes in the back of the box and the other I had holes drilled in the back so the wind/draft can carry the scent of your bait thru. The one with holes I kept catching critters the one without holes didn’t catch anything but a mouse !! Proof is in the pudding !!

I did that several years ago except instead of holes I replaced the 3/4" back plate with more of the metal screen air stapled in place. If you look close at the start of the video the 120 box I show has the screen rather than plywood back. I made nearly 2 hundred. They have had a great trial - at one point they were about half of the boxes I had out. I can't say they made a difference as far as catch rate and the bears loved to pull the screen back off in the summer. I don't make them that way anymore.

Great video, as a 18 year carpenter, now a millwright, use some eye protection in addition to the ear muffs. Love your show and podcast.

Thanks for the great videos! For the 120 box what are the dimensions of the tops and bottoms?
@TrappingIncTV
@TrappingIncTV Жыл бұрын
The dimensions are particular to the brand of body grip. For the Belisle I use the the top is 7 7/8" at the front and then tapers back at 5 degrees.

Thanks for this. Very informative. You seem to know your way around a shop. I'm surprised to see you wearing gloves around the saws. If the blade ever catches the glove, it could pull you hand into the machine. Love your channel so please take this comment as well-intended.
@TrappingIncTV
@TrappingIncTV 5 жыл бұрын
Most shops require the gloves as mandatory PPE under OHSA. It is like wearing hearing protection is good, but wearing headphones is bad. Both isolate you from sounds of danger around you. This year I achieved 40 years as a journeyman carpenter.

@@TrappingIncTV That's a great milestone. Most guys I know in that business are falling apart by now...It's interesting that there could be such different perspectives on something like this. Nice shop by the way. How the heck do you find the time for trapping and KZbin?

What is better to use green treated or spruce plywood. Cause some the red squirrels like eat my marten box what I notice they don't touch the green box, they sure like the spruce plywood, they like the glue
@TrappingIncTV

It is 1/2" or 12 mm pressure treated plywood.. these sizes work for the Belisle traps. Make sure that your particular brand of trap fits as well. It is easy to add half an inch each way to the dimension of the opening and have just about all traps fit. I do mine so tight so I can get the most out of a sheet of plywood. I'm cheap. LOL

@@TrappingIncTV great video Rich. Just came across it now. Do you mind getting me the backend measurement of both the top and side pieces. I believe you mentioned you ran 5 degree angle to the back?? Napkin says 6 1/2" x 6 1/4" or maybe that's for the block? Will be for the 160 boxes. Thanks.

Let me clarify that statement. If you look it up the term is stop dado and sometimes blind dado. It requires a little more skill and attention than just ripping plywood. I was taught it in trade school but that was a day or two ago so I don't know where it falls today. LOL Cheers
