Trapping the BEST fishing Bait! LEECHES

In this latest adventure of Wisconsin Fisherman, I headed out to set some traps for spring leeches, prepping for the upcoming fishing season. I admit, I had my doubts about the timing, but it turned out to be just right. The traps were overflowing with leeches, giving us a whopping catch of about 650! I trapped hundreds of pounds of leeches for multiple bait shops on the iron range in Minnesota back in the mid 70s until about 82. I've used those folded print plates, flashing, coffee cans and burlap traps. They all worked great 👍. I sold them for 50¢ a dozen and $18.00 a pound. I did really well. 😊

I am in Central New York. We used to tie a rope on a muskrat carcass throw it in the pond. We would have three or four of them come back in the morning they would be loaded. We used to turn our trapping rubber glove inside out kind of glove that goes up to the shoulder we would fill half the glove with leeches. This was back in the 1960s, thanks for the video

Great information! Here in southwest Wisconsin we dig for crawlers, but whener I go up north fishing I notice every bait shop carries leeches. Thanks for the video.

Months change water every couple days. Just a bucket half way with water
