Regarding the invasive grass, mow the areas where you want to kill it and cover the entire mowed area with a clear plastic tarp tight against the soil with cinderblocks or stones around the edge keeping it tight against the ground. This process is called solarization and will kill everything under the tarp if left throughout the summer. Reseed the area in the fall with native vegetation. Lots of resources available online for this and no herbicides required.

Roundup is safe around you're pond, its the only herbiced you can use in the UK around water. Careful running the aerator 24/7, it will lead to an increase in the biomass and if it fails for whatever reason you need a back up, or monitor the dissolved oxygen content and only run it when it gets low. Also don't worry too much about mixing layers I don't think your pond is deep enough to develop them and it's nicely exposed to wind which mixes it up and keep the oxygen levels up naturally. If you don't want to monitor oxygen just run the aerator during the warmer months at night.

One way ive heard of to get rid of invasive grass or groundcover is to get a bunch of cardboard from a local store (they usually give it away for free if you ask nicely) and cover the ground where the invasive plants are, and then cover the cardboard with some mulch. Youll need to keep it there for a whole cycle of the growing season to make sure any seeds get fully killed off,, but afterwards you can just till under all the mulch and cardboard with aome heavy equipment and repopulate the area with some native grass seeds

@BamaBass no problem! I've been recently looking up organic ways to rid our herb garden of invasive mint that hopped out of its pot a couple years back, without causing harm to all the other herbs. This was one of the methods that seemed like it was the best for the environment. It'll probably be an ongoing problem at least for a couple years, but if you can get the majority of the flowering area now then you'll get a good chunk of the work done then and there. It'll just be playing whack-a-mole as the next season arrives with the small patches of new seedlings you'll have to look out for.

Everything is connected. It’s very interesting to see how beneficial a Healthy Functioning pond like this is to Nature as a whole. And seeing how ALL these different creatures come here to this (your) pond to benefit from it and live from this pond. This goes far beyond the KZbin video title “I added 5,000 prawns to my Bass Pond.” It’s Amazing seeing how all this Wildlife comes here to this successful functioning healthy pond; Everything from the prawns, the largemouth bass, the bluegill, the rocks, the way the pond land scape is structured and organized so other living creatures can grow without the predators eating them yet, the algae, the toads and frogs, the water air pusher thingy in the middle of the pond, the eagles, the crows, the squirrels……. Now I truly see and get how this benefits Nature as a whole and how everything is connected……. All from this (your) successful, healthy, functioning pond and what it provides to the wildlife and nature as a whole……. I get it now. Because I can see it. I did not see the overall benefit this has to NATURE AS A WHOLE. I thought people just build ponds to make it easier to catch a 20 LB Bass, but this has ALOT of Good benefits to alot of living creatures and living organisms in Nature as a whole. Now I am seeing why the Department of Natural Resources is a valuable thing to have for our Nature, Wild Life Parks and Life. It goes beyond what most people see on the surface.

My favorite way to kill invasive grasses is to inter-plant something else that grows quickly and provides a lot of biomass, routinely before the grass goes to seed I cut it all down then rake into sections that are 6" to 1' thick. There's not enough biomass to do the whole area that thick so I just do it in sections and let the rest grow back before repeating the steps and filling in new sections. What this does rot the plant out from the roots, this will actually make your soil healthier and whatever cover crops you choose to grow down the road will grow that much better for it.

Just a thought, and if they do build, maybe you'll see an egg and them raising their young.

Keep an eye on your shoreline. A fountain was installed in our community pond and the shoreline has eroded 3 feet in 5 years. Constant small ripples do damage over time.

How much fun would fishing with a 5’ Ultra light Combo be on that AMAZING Pond.

You should put some native plants in the wetland filter and pond. Just grab some from a local pond and just dump them in, Like lily pads and dwarf hairgrass

hey. name is chris. i think you should put a few big logs up on the eagle tower. screw them down and make them in a big circle. that will help them start building a nest. it would look way cooler also.
