This reminded me of Landfill Harmonic, an orchestra from an impoverished village in Paraguay that use instruments built from trash as a way of engaging youths. There's a great documentary about them.

Love it! I can't put a name to the vague memory of an installation I've seen that has to do with this theme so nothing to add there, but I visited an exhibition on Pasolini a couple of months ago and it was really nice (this one: goo.gl/8lvkih, the link has no images so I'm afraid you're gonna have to just trust my judgement). He was a pretty interesting guy, in school he is usually studied in literature classes and he doesn't come up in art, so the exhibition was quite refreshing.
