Meanwhile on the white side he says: “I see black guy aiming a gun, but I rather see a black man raising a son”. Which, if u look at the single fatherhood rate in the black community is extremely high aka black fathers tend to just leave the kid and the mom. There’s actual statistics to back this up... so yeah. I listen to your stuff every day and love all of it. I think you’re a great guy with a good head on your shoulders. I always feel like you have a great perspective on the things you talk about.... but with this video I was a little bit disappointed. You could see in your eyes that you almost had a distasteful feeling toward white people when the first part was playing. Almost as if you might feel like that about most white people. I just felt that it was ironic that you were reacting to a song about racism while showing your own implicit bias. We can’t put a blanket over all white people or all black people and say that they have one specific stance. Every individual human being has their own thoughts, feelings, and opinions. I think it was a great video overall but I don’t think you were spreading the positivity that you speak of... There was too much of a negative vibe and most of it was directed at white people, which defeats the purpose of the song.

I love your reactions and I'm not trying to say this is biased however I do believe that you wernt really listening to what the white guy said. I am not saying I agree with everything that he was saying. I think both sides had great points and neither was entirely right. But for you to say I cant wait to get done with the first guy is definitely showing that you arent even listening for his side of the story. You might hear it but your not truly listening and taking into account what he is saying. He is not entirely right I think saying that your not racist because you have family who are friends with Black people is one of the dumbest statements ever. However I dont think he was entirely wrong. I think some of the small stuff like white people saying the N word is ok. I know the Black guy was saying it has a double meaning for us. But I think that is generalizing everyone who uses it. Just like some black people say it in a way that is in no way greeting white people or black. I understand that my views might be a little biased because I am just a white guy from Alabama. But this is what I personally believe.
@reapersashpt81444 жыл бұрын
He was uncomfortable with the language. And without the second half of the song, the first half is literally just some 'white dude' ranting about racism. If someone played me just the first half of this I'd be pretty, well not upset, definitely feeling negative in general. Plus the use of the N word here is enough to make anyone uncomfortable. That's the whole point
@c_lite82594 жыл бұрын
ReapersAsh PT it’s not the white guy saying it, it’s all joyner so i think you need to get past that, it does add depth and effect to the song tho..
@reapersashpt81444 жыл бұрын
@@c_lite8259 I know it's Joyner actually saying it not some white dude. That's why I emphasised white dude. Because if you don't know who Joyner is (Or even if you do) it's still from a 'white' perspective. You're missing my point. My point is that he can relate to the second half. The whole idea is to make both sides uncomfortable. If he had continued to bash on the first half after the fact I think you'd have a point. But he just wanted to get past something that was, as a reaction, making him mad. After the fact, he went on to be pretty unbiased in the sense he talked quite a bit about the fact that both sides have a point, but they both have serious flaws too. If anything, the fact he wanted the first half to be over, yet still came back and had a decent point, that discussed the fact both points have merit is more powerful than had he not been mad. Its perfectly in line with what I think the song is about. Both sides make the other uncomfortable or angry with their perspective for one reason or another but it's about getting past the shit that makes us angry. Not a lack of anger, but an ability to get past that anger and see the reasonable human past the hot takes.
@reapersashpt81444 жыл бұрын
@@c_lite8259 he wanted the first guy to finish, to get to the second half, to allow the song to come together and make its point. Which is why I said it how I did. Which is why, after the fact he made an effort to point out both sides have a point but they also both got massive flaws.

See, i am a white person, and during the second part when joyner says, " You don't know what it's like to get stopped by the cops and not know if you bout to die or not." To me that line hits the hardest and makes me tear up almost every time i listen to this song. The pain, anger, and sadness in his voice at that part cuts real deep. When this first dropped my buddy was all over Joyners music. I am a metal head and I show him new music by the artists I love and he does the same with artists he loves. I have grown to enjoy a few rap artists cause of him and he likes some of the bands I introduced him to as well. On to the main point, this dropped he wanted to listen to it while we were hanging out, he talked about Joyner for a bit before starting the video cause it was someone I didn't know of. As the video played I had a lot of reasons I disliked it I can see how others enjoy and relate to it but my biggest point is he only built a strawman and argued against his own phrasing. For one any logical white Male is not using nigga in a political or cultural argument other than to make one quick point. For another the issues that plague the black community were glossed over to talk about how they wear clothing or get upset with someone's speech instead of bringing up bigger issues. My friend who I have yet to mention is black also pointed out that even the strawman for the argument was stronger than the rebuttal on the few points that were more pressing. He liked some of the bars and explained most of it was probably a creative choice to make it sound more pleasing rather than really digging into the argument deeper but rather making a song out of the surface level of the argument. As much as I respect others opinions if you are going to tackle the racial divide in this country I think it needs to be deeper than surface level otherwise it seems insincere and pandering to the majority rather than really making you question where you stand and see the argument in a different perspective. Just my opinion tho. FYI, it wasn't awkward or anything for us. We have watched civil war movies, American History X, and other race related movies, not to mention alot of race related music and what not so it wasn't a tense situation for us or made us question each other on where we stand cause we already know how each other feel on the subject.

I feel like with this song Joyner Lucas tried to portray the worst stereotypes on both sides of the issue. They both drop hard truths. Things that are often left unspoken. But when we get to understand each other better and are prepared to move past our preconceptions, we should all be able to find common ground. Very powerful message.

Why do you think white people never get profiled? Are you one of those people that think US is the only real country in the world? Xenophobia and racism both run rampant in the EU among themselves. I am typically considered a white person with a Slavic background and I get profiled and stereotyped as an immigrant in my country from time to time because of my name, even though my parents and I grew up here.

One of my closest friends is the son of a Nigerian immigrant. One of my best mentors was from inner city Houston. I was fortunate that they helped me navigate this because this is exactly what the middle class feels like and i grew up with this rhetoric. Now, I’m having to try and raise my kids through what’s happening post Trump and Biden. As a white man, I understand the sentiments of the first half, but as a person I known these conversations HAVE to happen in order to heal. I know it’s a long shot, but I would be honored to have this conversation with you.
