Many items can be easily passed over if you are not educated in what you are buying. Learning how to look up sold comps on eBay is KEY to reselling items from thrift stores. In this video we teach you how. We believe reselling or flipping items from the thrift store is a great way to earn extra income and get ahead financially. Reselling is a side hustle anyone can do in their spare time.

My recent best find to flip was this art glass bird. Iittala toikka Finland bird. Paid like $3 and sold it for $130 in less than 48 hours. I also love watching Crazy Lamp Lady! I know to look out for glassy babies because of her.

Years ago I use to hit 20-30 thrift stores a week. Now it is lucky if I go to 5 a year. They are overcrowded for me and everyone is scanning everything. I do better at the antique stores. Years ago they were overpriced but with the way the economy is and less people shopping there it is amazing how many vendors actually dropped their prices and are willing to give you great deals now. I can scan prices there without getting pushed around. just a more relaxed environment and not the hectic race it is in the thrift stores around here.

Such a great video!! I’ve been learning so much lately on what to pick up when I’m out and about just by watching thrifting videos. And it’s awesome that you do it as a family. My four little girls always go everywhere with me, and they really do enjoy it, well as long as I let them go down the toy aisle! I think more videos of you guys out thrifting would be fun to watch!

One note about collectibles, especially toys, packaging is almost as important as the item itself. I know some people devalue an item based on the smallest flaws in packaging, so consider that in your comps if those are the items you are reselling.

ALERT - You can sell TOYS on EBAY also. Some sell for good money and they are usually easy to ship depending on the size. Plush is the best thing to sell in my opinion. I was selling things on eBay just to make a little extra money, but eBay became more and more difficult to do postings and folks didn't want to give me much for my listings. Due these reasons and due to time constraints and rising costs at thrift stores I haven't been posting anything in the last year or so.

I bought a brand new push mower there once for $20. It still had the store tags on it but seemed like the engine was locked up because the cable for the safety grab bar had come off the engine brake or was never installed properly. I flipped it up in the store, connected the cable then sure the engine spun. Took it home and started it, listed it for $120 and sold it the next day. Also bought an antique industrial scale from goodwill website for $300 and sold it for $1,800 but I did clean and paint it.

Re: coats, I normally avoid clothing, I find the search tedious and I don’t know popular brands. But last week I saw a coat that reminded me of one I had in the 80s. Turned out to be a men’s (lol) genuine hand-tailored Harris Tweed from the U.K. for $15. It isn’t sized - again hand tailored - so I’ll have to take measurements but I’m so psyched at such an amazing find! You guys are awesome and the girls are getting so big! Last week I read an article about you on CNBC and felt like a proud momma, as I’ve watched you from the beginning.

I watch a lot of resellers videos and I see many of them in the tri-state area travel an hour or two to goodwill stores in smaller towns to get goods to resell. Many people donating to thrift stores don't really intend for someone who just told us they made $100,000 last year to make money from those donations. Well-priced coats are for people who would be cold otherwise.
@twmcmahan
@twmcmahan Жыл бұрын
That's not how thrift stores work. Thrift stores are there to make money, which they then spend on their cause. The cause isn't the low priced sale of the item.
@lizzyware1860
@lizzyware1860 Жыл бұрын
@@twmcmahan well yes the stores are there to make money obviously, but the people donating are choosing to donate their items to thrift store so that people who normally couldn’t afford the item have the chance to own it. I’ve been in both ends, where my mom couldn’t afford to buy us the clothes we wanted so being able to find things at the thrift store to be able to fit in at school was amazing. I’ve also donated plenty of things when I could have sold the item myself for what it was worth. It makes me sad that people go and buy items at places like this and then up charge others for it.

I normally love your videos but as someone who has been forced to shop at the thrift store and someone who has donated it makes me sad to see you guys buying items for an affordable price and then jacking up the price to sell to someone else. My mom shopped at the thrift store because we couldn’t afford popular clothes when I was in school, but I’ve also donated things instead of selling. You’re taking away the opportunity for people who can’t normally afford these items to own them.

There is far more than enough to go around. Thrift stores dispose of millions of pounds of textiles every year because they aren't sold. Resellers help keep items out of the landfills and help countless people find the treasures they have been looking for. No one is preventing less affluent people from purchasing the name brands at the thrift stores. It is an open market for all to enjoy.
@lizzyware1860
@lizzyware1860 Жыл бұрын
@@annisameyers8974 I seriously doubt the the stuff they are buying was going to end up in the landfill, they bought the stuff that people actually want. The stuff going to waste is the stuff no one wants to buy. As for them “helping” people find the things they’ve been looking for, they are charging $90 for something they paid less than $10 for so I don’t see how that’s helping anyone but themselves.
@brendatomlinson
@brendatomlinson Жыл бұрын
I know I won’t change your mind but want to share my perspective from both sides. I buy all my personal clothes and purses at Goodwill, and also recently began reselling. Every shopper has equal opportunity to search for good deals, whether a reseller or buying for personal use. There’s literally enough to go around! My mid-size city has a Goodwill outlet, which is the last stop for goods before the landfill. LANDFILL! They don’t even donate goods at the end of the line! I’ve found designer items, for example Jimmy Choo, that were passed over at the regular stores. Jamie and Sarah are not taking items from the needy, they’re putting in the work and spending the hours of their lives searching for goods, like anyone else. I personally wish goodwill would donate every coat they receive to homeless shelters or domestic violence shelters but they’d rather make a profit on those items. One last tidbit - the security manager I’ve come to know at my Goodwill told me just last week that they had made $5000 that particular day!! Resellers are a good portion of that income. Goodwill loves resellers!
@verkster
@verkster Жыл бұрын
@@annisameyers8974 Agreed. The racks at my thrift stores are always full. There's plenty of inventory to go around. I resell as a side hustle and often find clothes for myself. I shop a couple of local, non-chain stores too and my purchases are supporting local organizations. Like many resellers, I'm selective with what I buy so it's not as if I'm buying all the winter coats in the stores and leaving nothing for those that are looking for them.

@@lizzyware1860 "As for them “helping” people find the things they’ve been looking for, they are charging $90 for something they paid less than $10 for so I don’t see how that’s helping anyone but themselves." And how much would it cost for people who are looking for 1 particular vintage toy to fly to their city to go to this store? Or to go to every Goodwill in their city every day for a year and still not find it because it's rare and nobody donated it? That's the thing - if you need just clothes or just something for Christmas, there's still plenty left and plenty will go to the landfill. If you want a rare item - your best hope is that someone will get it in their local Goodwill and list it online.
