Try a compressor and force air in-between the shaft and the grip. I know it sounds funny, but it works on bike handlebar grips. The wife and I bought a house in Bella Vista I may need your services one day. Have a nice day.

Removing handle: Try blowing air between rubber and tube. Blow from the bottom, and slide it off the top. Run the air around the edge, try to stick the top under the rubber in several spots. Use lube around bottom edge. Also, sticking a small screwdriver under edge can help get air in there.

It looks like everyone mentioned the air compressor tip. That's actually how I fix the rubber grips on Stihl pole saws as well in my shop. If you stick a thin screwdriver in at the edge, it helps a lot to get the tip of the air gun under.

Here's a tip or trick I learned years ago: If you are new to this type of work, use a camera and take photos as you are tearing down a piece. This will help you put the piece back together properly. Take as many detailed photos as possible. This saves time and frustration putting the machine back together.

Bre, thank you, thank you. Several of your videos combined to get me off my butt. Your chain saw carb forced function was one, just keep revving to get the diaphragm working. The one on Mantis and how great they are as a tiller, was another. I remembered I had a 4 stroke Mantis tiller that has been sitting more than 5 years. Tank empty, no oil in it. I dragged it out, gave it a good wash and let it dry. Filled oil as shown in manual (still had that too), added gas only, and it started with the primer (which disintegrated right after). It started and would idle, but not rev up. What you did with the chainsaw, I did with the tiller. Just keep trying to rev it out. After about 3 minutes it was revving just fine and digging in the earth. Again, thanks for all you do for us viewers. May God bless and keep you healthy.

I love this video. It was exciting/thrilling to watch. It was a trip into an unknown outcome. I mean, it's Bre, she's a master repairer, so we were pretty sure it would come out running like a champ. This reminds of my uncle, who was a tinkerer, who's advice was give it a try. It's always encouraging to watch Bre's video, but this one was next level. Much like Frankenstein's monster, it lives. And being more than the sum of it's parts, it will probably run forever. It will be handed down for generations to come.

I had a Snapper Hi-vac with an I/C Briggs 5 horse, an edger and a Wisconsin Robin weedeater - which locals around S. Fla. swore by back in that time. Watched you trying to remove the rubber sleeve from shaft. Played much golf in younger years. Regripped many club shafts. Mineral spirits is great solvent for placing grip. Cut the grip off if worn out. Trying to re use grip I always slid a blunted coat hanger size wire under grip putting a bit of acetone in along the way. Work quickly as acetone evaporates quickly. Easy and sure way to remove rubber grips is use high pressure air through a very small nozzle (about 2 or 3"long tip). jam it between the rubber grip and the metal starting at the back, give it a big blast. Do this progression all the way around. most always the grips will lift. I have used this method since the 1960's with good success. LOVE you, your fun expertise, and great videos!!

Shindaiwa - absolutely the best whipper snippers ever made! They go forever. You will wear out the throttle cable before the engine. The 260 is a better model though, and remove the spark arrestor from the exhaust. Heaps, like heaps more power! Great to see one come back to life here.

i see some say air to get the grip off. sometimes it works sometimes not. what i found was to round the end of an 1/8th inch weld rod and chuck it in a hand drill. as you feed it in between the grip and the housing it will "walk" around the housing breaking the bond once it's all the way through you can pull the grip and it will walk right off. a little dish soap may help.

Those are great trimmers. Buddy of mine has one I have fixed a couple of times. Beat as all get out cause it gets left outside most of the time despite my trying to convince them not to. Only problem is more vibration than it should have due to a cruddy shaft thanks to its neglect. My prolly 15+ yr old Echo that is only a GT-200, was free, and also was beat and abused by a previous owner looks mint by comparison, but it stays in the garage. Both still running tho

I would get that same condition with seized grips on bicycle handlebars when I worked at a repair shop. Best way I found was to use a very thin, long, hardened-steel tool (think antique ice pick or very long, thin, flathead screwdriver) that can reach under the full length of the grip (even if needing to go in from both ends just like Bre showed) and then spray silicone in beside the tool. Try squeezing the end face of the grip against the tool to keep all the lube inside when the tool is extracted. The pressure of the grip squeezing back around the tube/bar while the tool recedes "smears" lube outward everywhere under the grip because the liquid lube is incompressible.

Sometimes on grips like that I've had luck using my air blower crank the pressure way up. Use a needle point style nozzle on your air blower enforce air under the grip a lot of times. While you're doing that, you can actually slide the grip off the end. I've never done this admittedly on a trimmer like that. But it works great on bicycle and motorcycle grips, golf club grips etc. Might work there on your power tools as well.
