@charles2241 Жыл бұрын
@@l3ftie578 Yes, it's cheap crap, but I don't know if it's technically illegal. What it really is, is an attempt to give himself another dribble since he can't go any further if he don't let go of the ball. If it really is illegal, he needs to lose that and get used to having to deal with losing your dribble and throwing it to somebody else.
@SingleTrackMined Жыл бұрын
@@charles2241 Bird did it back in the day. It's legal
@charles2241 Жыл бұрын
@@SingleTrackMined Somehow, him doing that doesn't surprise me - it's so cheap. I'm curious why it isn't illegal, because it amounts to what I said, plus making a pass to yourself. Perhaps the problem would be trying to discern whether that throw was a real missed shot he happened to rebound, and the real cheap crap the pass to yourself it really is. I presume therefore, that if you have control of the ball, in the middle of a dribble, then roll it, then would speed up to grab it back, and dribble all over again without it being a violation, that it amounts to the same thing, you're able to regain your dribble because you temporarily lost possession (even if losing possession was entirely your own doing). I bet that being legal, as well as the pass to yourself off the backboard were done a lot by a few players, they would make it illegal (for obvious reasons). The backboard thing, in comparison, isn't so bad. Typically, we see the rolling ball only when bringing the ball out. Playing half court, there's so many guys it's probably too easy to have a turnover trying to get out of a trap via a roll. Hmm, don't think I've ever seen anybody bounce it real hard to get out of a trap (but wasn't a pass to somebody else), so that at least part of the time nobody can get it while it's in the air and to the side, where the offensive player probably has an advantage getting to it. I can see the point of it, say you're playing one-on-one, because basketball works around the notion of always having a teammate you can pass to when you lose your dribble, and that way you can pass to yourself and regain your dribble. Basketball without a teammate is really artificial basketball, but what I saw this kid do with the backboard really is cheap, which maybe more than anything else, is just something of a cosmetic difference. If other people think it's too cheap, they just won't do it. BTW, when that happens, does it count as a shot attempt? You're driving down the lane, and instead of just getting the layup, you do that too, and so instead of going 1/1 you go 1/2. This is really getting bad. Let's presume you're a seven-footer, and you're a point guard😂, and the guy that guards you is under 6'. You've just lost your dribble and none of the teammates can get open, couldn't you just bounce the ball hard with your back turned to the opponent, therefore a very high percentage you would get it (sort of tipoff height up in the air), and therefore regain your dribble legally? The funny thing too, if it is legal, is that even if the guy guarding you had a chance, he wouldn't suspect it was coming, unless you did that rather frequently. Naturally, a PG would play differently, because you don't want to get in that position in the first place. Knew anybody that ever did that? It's sort of like throwing the ball at the opponent, to get it to glance off them when the ball goes out of play, but you're just letting go of the ball, more or less, instead.
