feels bad for the grandmasters though. 10 years ago if you liked chess you were watching them. He's about what you'd expect from a 1200. He's 76 now, and has never played online and hasn't played in a tournament in 20 years though, so I know he's significantly weaker than he used to be, and I think age has played a bigger part in that than simple rustiness because he still plays with friends and family.

Hikaru is often the one joking around with the trash talk when he's streaming online, but over the board he's a straight up gent. What an example for young chess players! He makes sure he shakes his opponents hand, looks them in the eye and tells them how well they did, and even gives them some useful advice on what they could have done better... but in a genuinely friendly and conscientious way. Often with players of such talent, ego gets in the way of that, but I didn't detect a hint of it here. Hats off Hikaru, you just earned even more of my respect.

@@skunkboy72 Black's King can only move to D8 or E7 (Although E7 is Mate in 2 - Queen to F6, Bishop to H5). Queen shifts over to F6 for another check. If the King returns to E8, Bishop H5 is Mate. If Black tries to block the Queen with Bishop E7, Queen takes Rook with Check. Queen then takes Bishop on F8 (it can't move out of the way or the King will be revealed). If the King returns to E8 to attempt to protect the Bishop, Bishop to H5 forces the King away. If King to D8, Queen takes Bishop with Check and the only legal move is Bishop to E8, and Queen takes for Checkmate (Queen is protected by Bishop on H5). If King to E7, trying to continue protecting the Bishop, Queen to F6 is Mate (Queen protected by the pawn). Black's King would have to retreat to the opposite side of the board, forcing Black to lose a Rook and Bishop. Black's Pawns are in no position to push and he'd be left with a Queen and light squared Bishop. That Bishop will be forever trapped in the top left quadrant if White plants their Bishop on H5. Even if Black's remaining Bishop were to escape, all of White's pawns are on dark squares and can only be attacked by the Queen. Black's pawns, however, are much less defensible, with a Rook and Bishop pair able to attack and defend, allowing White to march the pass pawn on the G file to an easy promotion. The only way for Black to win here is if White blunders every piece. I'm at around 750-800 rating, so I'd love if someone could point out anything in that position I missed.
