Another cracking recovery, Dan! Great job! I was gifted about two dozen locomotives, DMUs and carriages. With care, I refurbished all of the motors bar one which has a weak magnet. Wheels were cleaned and everything was relubricated. I’m not even a model railway enthusiast but my buddy is. I was practicing so I can help him when he resurrects his mode railway set. Your videos are valuable in determining faults and overcoming them. Thank you!

These are always worth working on, great little power bogies that are lovely on DCC. Tidy up nicely with detailing and weathering.

I reckon Dan that grease has been in that motor when Hornby made it and to get it going perhaps someone thought it was a good idea to drown it in oil. It seems to be the way these days with manufacturers making it harder to get into models to clean out the old waxy grease and apply fresh grease. Axles and bearings need a drop of oil too but they're behind delicate covers or you need to remove so much wiring just to get at bearings. I suppose it's part of the throw away society idea where when something no longer works you chuck it the dustbin and buy another one. Well that's all very well if the new models weren't do darn expensive to begin with.
