Hi Dan. Great job Dan. Wow I thought that crap on the wheels were tyres, that was some build up of dirt. Thanks Dan great repair as usual. Thumbs up thumped 👍 ....Pete and Su....

Creating your own smokebox darts is a great example of skilled modelling. It motivates me to try it myself.

The model was likely sitting on a shelf painted with white paint when not in use.

Perhaps the white paint Dan on the wheel flanges comes from the last owner trying to replicate the white painted rail sides we see on modern track and maybe the track was code 75 so the flanges picked up some white paint from where it had been applied and spilled onto the chairs that hold the rail if the loco and tender had derailed and bumped along the track. That's my guess. I've got to say for my eyes a Duchess looks gorgeous in LMS crimson, BR maroon or BR blue but a bit bland in green. The same with the princesses but that's just my preference. Perhaps it's because the lining isn't that prominent.

I don't envy you, I have a rebuilt Patriot from that era and had to contend with Mazak rot, I runs but I place no reliability on it , which is a pity cos, it's a lovely model. Far too complex.

I have one of these lovely models. The decoder already in it I would have tested with the body off 1st. Cheers

Hi Dan, I totally agree with you that the Dutchess is a fine looking beast, but it would look magnificent in LMS crimson lake. It goes to show that Hornby did make great looking models. Don't get me wrong, I am a rivet counter, I suppose that becomes of getting older when the hobby turns from a train set into a model railway, so she does miss a few finer details, your metal dart a case in point, metal doesn't break, or it takes a lot to break it should I say. Hornby should stick to this affordable, is any thing affordable these days?, middle of the road stuff, let the new players with the new money be adventurous, and give us models that would either look fine as they are but have a sound base to make them even better.

This is R2231 from 2001-2004, yours is R066 from 1977-1979. Is like comparing a 1971 Ford Escort mk1 with a 1984 one....similar but worlds apart

Brilliant 👍 love seeing a good repair. Might need to ask your expertise on the Q1 that for some reason has got progressively worse since it was first ran :'(

Dan Im wondering if you can help me here .I have had a fruitless search for a set of Sprung buffers to fit onto an A4 tender chassis it seems that they have disappeared off the face of the earth . You wouldn't have a set in your stash that you would be willing to sell me , Im in the US so i cant go to a hobby shop or train show to hunt :-( Let me know if you can help . Thanks Martin
