I'm old enough to remember Springfield and the train station the way it "used to be" back in the 1950s and 1960s. The train station, like the entire city of Springfield, is a shadow of its former self. Decay, disrepair, unkempt housing, filth, garbage, and neglect------and to think Springfield used to be called the City of Homes. It should be called the City of Neglect. Thank you for your efforts to show why I won't drive to Springfield to take any trains.

Yes, Springfield has definitely seen better days. Once businesses leave, cities try to grasp onto whatever to stay afloat. The station is the only place I feel safe enough to railfan in Springfield. I’d love to see the station in its heyday. It’s less the city of homes and more the city of houses.

@@ShortAttentionSpanRailfan Most of the city's homes are decayed and rotting----the houses didn't do that to themselves----it's the people who live there and don't care. Ditto for the RR station. I knew Springfield when it was a vibrant city worth traveling to get to. Now, forget about it. Good luck to you.

@FlexibleFlyer50 Well, regardless of quality, I’ve gotten some pretty cool catches over the past 5 all-day trips. That video will be out eventually. Thank you for your comment btw, I don’t often get experts in the fields I post videos about. Trust me, I’d go anywhere else but Springfield is the only place where the Hartford line and Berkshire Line cross and I’ll take the dilapidated station with lots of trains over Windsor Locks with less trains. And believe it or not, I’ve met some cool people there.

@@ShortAttentionSpanRailfan I grew up by the CT River and the tracks---two sets back then. At night I fell asleep to the train whistles and the clackety clack of the trains passing over the rails. Good memories. Do what you enjoy and love!!!! That's what counts.

This was my playground as a kid I got into all kinds of great trouble there I lived off liberty street and murryhill ave so the train yard was across the street. I had the greatest childhood I could ever imagine hopping trains and lookin for trouble .

@@ShortAttentionSpanRailfan Monson mass east bound west Springfield west bound I was only 8 years old . Hell I went down the Connecticut river in a kiddie pool with my 7 year old friend from the old bridge on front st chiopee all the way to memorial bridge in Springfield. We walked back to chicopee via the railroad tracks and stopped to get a drink at a spring where a bunch of hobos were hanging around there was a pipe going into the side of a hill along the tracks with a tin cup. Ice cold spring water flowed out of it we drank with the Bums while they told us rail stories.
