On "music is just beeps and boops," there are studies that have shown that some people don't really recognize lyrics/singing in music, it essentially just blends into the other instruments for them and they have a very hard time picking it out from the rest of the music. On the other hand, there are also people who essentially ONLY hear the singing, and the music falls away into the background. It explains a lot of why people will have such drastically different opinions on one song or another, regardless of stylistic taste, because theyre legitimately hearing different things. If the singing and lyrics of a song are good, but the music is kind of bad, one person might love it while another person might think it sounds awful Garnt and maybe Connor seem to fall into the "can't hear the lyrics group"

23:23 That's how I think about visual art too. As an artist, sometimes you just create something out of random whimsy. Some art, especially unexplained abstract pieces, don't have any inherent meaning. Some people argue that your background, interests, and ideology affect everything you produce, but that results in even more viewers arguing to each other about which interpretation is more "valid" or "true", even if the artist outright says their work doesn't have any meaning in it. Some people mistake "meaning" for "applicability".
@abinjjaimon8 ай бұрын
Unironicaly, I only started appreciating abstract art ,after I visited a Modern Art gallery with my friends, where we discussed the meaning behind seemingly shit art. At first this started off as a joke, but the more we talked, the more serious it got.
@oceanicGrimalkin8 ай бұрын
@@abinjjaimon Yeah. On a related note, there are plenty of pretty crap art (as subjective the standards of "crappy art" are) regardless of its intent, ngl. Some just... tape a banana on a wall or something and call it a day. Maybe it's a callback to Duchamp's urinals as a commentary on what people would consider as aesthetically pleasing or pretentiousness, but it's still crap. I don't like gatekeeping "bad" art from being art, though, as much as some people argue that only the conventional and the pleasing are the only ones to "count" as art. It's still art regardless, and bad ones exist with the good ones. For some pieces, perhaps it's something about the form, shape, texture, etc. that makes it remarkable to the viewer rather than the interpretation or meaning. It goes the other way too, like how some people are alright with enjoying a song just for how it sounds and how catchy it is.
@abinjjaimon8 ай бұрын
@oceanicGrimalkin I agree 100% bc there is definitely "bad" art, as art is subjective, but if I have a visceral reaction to something MANMADE, whether good or bad, it is art. If I saw the statues or Greco-Roman architecture everywhere, I would go insane bc it is everywhere, leaving the original beauty of it all to be too "samey." But if it's too different/avant-garde, it also has a weird feeling to it as it doesn't conform with society. Also, I am a firm believer that the audience controls the meaning, becuase our experience will always carry from one another, so if the author says " it has no meaning", that doesn't mean our interpretations are wrong because there is no way to disprove your meaning becuase you felt a special connection/feeling to the art.
@oceanicGrimalkin8 ай бұрын
@@abinjjaimon Indeed. Art, like life, can be said as having no inherent meaning, so people create their own out of it. Navigating the flame war about which interpretation is the "correct" one on a meaningless piece more often than not just results in people trying to invalidate each other's thoughts on something highly ambiguous and subjective. I'm not sure what you meant about the latter part about "no way to disprove your meaning", though. Did you mean that since the creator has unveiled the meaninglessness of the creation, there is no "wrong" or "right" way of seeing the work (correct me if I got it wrong, because I'm not sure)?
@abinjjaimon8 ай бұрын
@oceanicGrimalkin p much, yeah. The author may say that their creation has no meaning, but because of its supposed "meaningless" message, it doesn't hurt if we put our spin on it, as it doesn't hurt the art itself. Like you said, life itself is meaningless, but our actions and thoughts can certainly make life meaningful.

Basically they thought there was aa contradiction when there wasn't. Yes the water sommelier is right, room temperature is easier to tell taste difference. Joey is right, cold water is refreshing because it suppresses impurities. Only Connor is wrong, no room temperature water doesn't taste better, it tastes gross.
@RetroMines8 ай бұрын
@@grey_f98 What the heck, i cant handle this room temp water slander, first of all you can barely taste cold water and with ice cold water theres no taste as you are freezing your taste buds and the nerves cant detect anything except for that its cold. And as you said the water sommelier is right and room temp water has way more taste meaning some people can find it tastier as you find it gross. As for it being more refreshing, thats just because it stimulates your nerves and you are actively burning calories to restore your body temp, which makes you feel more energised or refreshed but it has significant down sides if you drink it regularly as it contracts your blood vessels. In general still water is way healthier than running (cold) water. But heres the real game changer, hot water or even slightly hotter than room temp; it does effectively everything that cold water does just without any down sides. Even as someone who lives in India (a very humid country), I will always go for the hot option in the water dispensers just as Connor said. Both of which tend to be many hours long, so I save myself a lot of time that otherwise would’ve been wasted. It varies person to person, but if I have more time to do stuff in my day, i’m happy with that.

I soo agree with garnt that it takes effort and investment to watch a good show. Watching a good show is only rewarding if you are 100% into it and sometimes when i am tired or just want some content to be there while i chill or eat for example i want SLOP content , soo that it can just play in the background and i dont have to feel bad about not taking it seriously

Its funny that i was watching episode 1 yesterday to rewatch the tsundere story of Garnt and Joey meet up just to laugh. I watched this podcast for a while maybe started at ep. 67? and i feel like you guys have built your careers more and managed the expectations of Japan really well for viewers and content creators making it realistic, made people curious about otaku culture and made hentai cool to talk out loud in public which is funny for how degenerative tastes can be 😂

21:11 Hi Joey ..I hate to be that person. Sorry but Turning Japanese is about is about turning into something your mind can't comprehend ... A lot of people misinterpreted that song obviously because of the lyrics..it is a sad song...now every time I listen to it I feel sad ...at first I also thought it was weird fun, out there song. That's why I think your point is right that lyrics change so much about how you perceive songs... But I like Grant and Conner's way of listening to music by "VIBES"😅 sry my man Anyway congrats for 200+ episodes and great special Love you guys🎉

It said that room temperature is the best for taste differentiation, not that it tastes best. Cold water just tastes similar across the board, so it comes down to what taste you would rather have over cold water.

Interesting. I was diagnosed with ADHD, yet I love music, and learn lyrics rather quickly. That is when I can actually hear them. I was born with about a 40% hearing loss. I love songs that make me think. I can't just have something in the background. I find trying to listen to the lyrics too distracting. I have to sit and enjoy it.

I am an American, but I’m still 100% with Connor on the water debate. I’m a huge water drinker, & I hate ice cold water as well. I like it a little chilled & cool or just room temperature, but definitely not ice cold or with ice. I hate ice in general. Connor is totally right on that in my opinion lol.. Also, upstate NY doesn’t mean NYC like you guys were thinking there. It means the upper part of the entire state of NY which is vastly countryside & lots of nature. So that’s very believable that it has some of the best water for sure! Look up that part of the state’s nature sights & you’ll see, & understand why too. NYC is just a very small island off to the side of the state of NY.

The best tasting water comes from ground water springs. The rain water soaks through the ground until it goes bedrock layers. Then it travels along bedrock until it hits a point of exit. In this time from rain to exit, the impurities are filtered out and the minerals that make water taste better are dissolved into the water. The temperature of the water coming out of the spring is often about 46 to 52 degrees Fahrenheit.

Connor's right about the water, room temperature water is ingested easier and hydrates you faster, thus making you feel 'refreshed'. Always known this as I work in the Australian desert for weeks at a time. Google - "When you drink cold water, your body has to get more energy from your body in order to warm up the cool foods and liquids. This makes the digestive process take much longer than when you drink warm liquids and could lead to indigestion, constipation, and various other digestive issues".
