People lost their humanity when anonymity became such an accessible thing. It's easier to be cruel when you can hide your identity from the masses and in turn, their judgement.
@R1ckr0114 жыл бұрын
You mean Psuedonomity: it is was created earlier for a special class of "regular people" that became personas as celebrities. It's the disease of Parasocial relationships. Unfortunately The problem is Deep in time and Rich in complexity. In fact a Person is more completely knowable now than at any time previous in history, and this will I only continue to become more total as we are inevitably engulfed by these arbitrary, artificial social environments which reflect various aspects of our selves. You can also see this, come to think of it, in the schoolyard. You weren't "known" by your peers so much as perceived by them. This became brutalist in the manufactured comfort of the suburbs. If anything America has been becoming the single Least Authentic culture since the 1920s. We're also the country that spearheaded the internet and social media. This may go a long way to understand that what we do and Have done is continually export a quasiculture internationally. The rejection then subsequent acceptance of Anime seems so appropriate as the whole of the Far East is now playing this game where they're exporting and critiquing the falseness and futility of modern society. It actually goes a long way to addressing the self-alienation of the West, though I think the problems in Europe are much harder to pin down, but may have to be do with a similar push towards de-urbanizatioh to a slight degree and certainly also a saturation of unrealistic media. Not sure if the price of technical autonomy is this Parasocial Construct, but it bears remembering that the King posseses the Crown, and this symbol of sovereignty was what created the primordial interhuman Parasocial relationship.

In the early 2000s people didn't take the internet so seriously, so anonymity wasn't an issue. Now, the line between offline and online is blurred and "offline" topics are super pervasive so the cruelty is more prevalent.

Like I live at home cos I'm a pre-med student and won't be settled into a full time career and able to afford a house until I'm like 30 but at the same time I have the benefit of knowing I'm actually doing something with my life. Likewise my older sister didn't leave home until 27 cos she needed to save up in order to be able to afford her own place with her husband. But if you're like the person Connor was talking about where they're some weirdo doing nothing but roleplaying as some anime character without some semblance of a real life then there's something wrong there. You're talking about how you're paying half the rent for your place. In that case you're not living under your mom, she's basically just your room mate. Big difference.

The big problem is very few people have ever been in the position large KZbinrs have, so they simply aren't able to wrap their head around how truly horrible the vitriol they're sending that KZbinr's way truly is. It's like the saying "Everybody's for Cancel Culture until they're the one getting cancelled". That combined with the staggering growth in the amount of people incapable of basic human empathy, it's absolutely horrifying. Frankly I couldn't care less about hate, but when people purposefully spread false information about you or start doxing/swatting you, that's what really hits hard. Anytime I see someone going through that crap I immediately reach out and let them know they're not alone and that they can get through it, because lord knows they need the support in that kind of dark situation.

@Faith Dorey sounds like an excuse to be an asshole. So say you were attracted to kids, since you weren’t taught common sense you’re gonna molest them? Since you weren’t taught common sense you’re gonna steal something for no reason? Doesn’t make sense. Common sense is something that you’re born with. It’s the ability to know what to do in an OBVIOUS situation. It’s not rocket science. Someone is complaining to you about a problem they have, it’s common sense to not ridicule them for having a problem. It’s common sense that bullying anyone is bad, it’s common sense to treat children with care and not shout at them, etc. It isn’t some kind of godlike power that someone has to bestow upon you, you ARE born with it, and whether you choose to utilize it or not is up to you.
@DrPhantasma4 жыл бұрын
@@samantaraafat8526 How the hell are you born with it? That's stuff you learn through early development. It's only common sense when someone gets it hammered into them at a very young age. I can't even imagine how people can think of sending death threats to someone. Like, don't you have better things to do in life..?? But I guess that's just how some people which is the bitter truth.
@DumbestDumbFool4 жыл бұрын
Just to help to clarify, some people see their idol as if they're theirs, as if they are the person that the creator made the videos for. These people that send death threats are bluffing to get reaction, to get attention, and they like it. They keep this persona and socialize around the internet being a troll or just pathethic scum bag because they want to socialize as much as everyone does, but they can't do that IRL out of their own insecurities (remind you, even an introvert need to socialize and mostly from texts and chats). But because they're on the internet, their thoughts and words can be shouted out there into the world with little to no guilt. IRL, if you shout death threats to anyone, you'll be able to see their face and look at the person they hurt at. IRL people around this victim will protect her, and probably the person shouting will at least know what they did is wrong. But on the internet, when there's a lot of people shouting, their herd mentality turned on. It's the same as most hatred towards most big youtuber or companies (obviously, there'll be some that actually did criminal shits that need to be brought to the justice system), as these "hater" find each other and felt that because there's others that felt the same, that justify their actions. This mob mentality has been a danger to society from the dawn of age. This mob created and gathered by hate strengthen each members ego, helping each other out, just to see someone or something crash down and burned down to the ground. As an empath, I am deeply concerned for their mental health, as these actions is far from healthy. No one should be happy to watch anyone fall or die, it's a primitive mentality that need revenge and hate to use the adrenaline to protect their family physically, and no one needs that on the internet. No one needs them IRL either, as there's far more problem in the world other than country X raging war with country Y. If all of us just realized that hating never heals nor nurture any plants, if hating never changes the other person to be better, that hating only makes them feel the adrenaline rush and afterwards, their brain sends out dopamine to rewards that feeling of having protected something, something so pathetic and sad known as ego... Ours and generations after us, will have much better future. I'm writing an essay on the internet to reply someone, now that is a joke

'The Internet Kinda Sucks Right Now' Everything is down. They really did just predict an hour into the future. (I know that's not what they intended by the title of the video, but I just find it funny) EDIT: For those wondering, cloudflare went down and tons of websites, apps and services were hit offline at the time of writing this comment.

I remember the Sebastian and Ciel videos were one of my favorite things to watch as a young teen, cause I was deep into Black Butler. However after hearing about the stuff that happened, Connor was right to get rid of the videos and cut off associations. I don't know Connor personally but he seems like a genuine person that has good morals and I'm glad he's such a good role model in the KZbin community
@HexManiacQuinn4 жыл бұрын
I agree he seems like a good person with good morals, but I think his actions are still debatable. Right now most of the videos he took down have been re-uploaded because the demand for them never stopped. (I catch myself going back to some of that Ciel's songs from time to time). The audience still wants what the audience still wants. And this is all to say nothing of the implication of acting like the collabs never happened, in a sense. I personally would have chosen for him to keep them up but make it clear in a pinned post on each video that he has cut all ties with the Ciel actor and would no longer be working with him. But of course, that's my opinion and the idea of separating the art from the artist and other related issues is still highly debatable.

Ngl, I look forward to these podcasts quite a lot since I find it pretty refreshing. I don't consider myself a podcast person, but these podcasts from this collaboration just seem really fun. Hearing about KZbinr opinions on the platform and all is pretty interesting and I'd love to hear more stories. I've enjoyed every episode so far and I really like everyone's dynamic in the podcast! It's hard to explain, but it's like talking to friends that I don't have in real life who equally like anime. Keep up the good work, looking forward to more!

Lol, ngl you could have advertised it more, but I guess you didn't have a large enough budget or something
@JoshawottNerdsOut4 жыл бұрын
Lokk J We got some incredible press coverage like Mark Kermode featuring it on the BBC Film Review, but it can be an uphill battle to get the UK press interested in an anime, especially as they tend to be limited one-day releases (unless it has the international headlines Your Name did). I recall the distributor being happy with how Maquia did, though. The real shame, was how many anime sites left it out of their awards and yearly round ups - I’m totally with Joey in his adoration for Maquia and Mari Okada.

About the negativity online. I remember seeing the backlash Jessica received back in the day, her and many others. I saw them speak about it. And it was then that I vowed to myself to push back with positivity. Because, at the end of the day, I hope the content creators I follow, which brighten up my day, will see how much more good they are doing compared to what some trolls and haters say.
