To be fair that's not a high bar to hit man. They may have a popular podcast and may be established internet celebrities, in reality they're pretty shallow in terms of anime knowledge. fwiw I know lots of people who legitimately have watched a ton of anime can easily list and describe a lot more stuff than they can. Especially joey, who likes to put on that guru persona comes off really cringe with some of his takes.

As someone in their 30's, sometimes I judge most anime fans the same way. It's not about being a super nerd, but just having been in the fandom so long. When Garnt didn't know Kyo Kara Maoh in his isekai tier list, or now when they didn't know Key the Metal Idol, I wonder to myself if I'm just too old for this. I know Garnt and Joey are also in their 30's, but being a bit older than them and having been watching anime since the late 80's, it sometimes just feels weird.

Missed basically most of what happened between 2005 and 2015. 🤣 Anyway, SyFy used to have a thing they called Global Showcase back when they were still the Sci-Fi Channel. Because of that, I saw my first three anime all in one night. Lensman, Vampire Hunter D, and Robot Carnival. That was a really good night back in 1993.

As a 30-plus-year-old Filipino, I am happy that somehow Akazukin ChaCha was mentioned in my favorite podcast and is included in the 3x3 by Kaho. Such a great, nostalgic show. 90's - early 2000's Anime in the Philippines was amazing.

Being on the same age bracket, and having this morning anime randomly shown on our TVs when I was young. I barely thought much of it, but as I watch the series more it was truly a gem of an anime in the mid 90s. The trio of ChaCha, Riiya and Shiine was hilarious. The show was Gintama if Gintama was made for 10 year olds.

@@microbyo13 most kids with only one TVs probably had missed it, given its weird timeslot putting it up against daily news like HoyGising and TV Patrol. Back in the 90s its a must for adults to watch the news between 530 to 7PM which this gem of an anime was on. On top of that ABC 5 was on UHF, meaning old TVs wont be able to get the signal. So Id reckon only kids on the metro who have additional TVs or was able to fight their way through their parents was able to watch that show. Also 10/10 crash course on chinese zodiacs.

I’ll drink to that. There were even a bunch of hidden gems that most people probably haven’t seen. You’ll have to look for it (if you know what I mean), but I’d highly recommend the anime Brave Command Dagwon (Yuusha Shirei Dagwon). It basically a mix of Power Rangers and Transformers just with more character development and drama. It’s surprisingly mature given the design of the mechs for one thing!

And going down the 90s OVAs, there's a lot of bangers, the titties were there at most for shock factor, something like in ninja scroll, which just told you this isn't really cartoons for kids, this is is serious shit. There was some sex/horror shit out there as well, like urotsukidoji, but honestly I never watched anything beyond half the first ova because it was boring honestly. Vampire Hunter D bloodlust, genocyber, ninja scroll, the kenshin OVAs, ghost in the shell, and the og alita battle angel, are just some of the bangers that a lot of people will never see and it's a shame.

@@TheShitpostExperience Yeah man. Even the TV series I mentioned all have OVAs which have incredible art. I don't think there's anything that looks as good as hand drawn cell shaded anime. People may say it's nostalgia but in this case it isn't. I've gone back and watched animes from the 90s that I've never seen before and they blow anything that came out in this century outta water. It's so sad that we won't get more of these animes anymore.

If you're into OVAS I really recommend watching this cool OVA from the 80s called California Crisis. It's got the sickest art style I've ever seen in an anime. It's like straight from some Vaporwave artwork and has a banging city pop soundtrack. Insane vibes.

Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou was incredible, I don't think any romance anime will ever make as big an impression than that on me, I kinda measure all anime romance as compared to KareKano, and I watched a lot of romance anime, it's that solid. The manga is just as great, though not as funny, I liked the ending too.

Everyone talks about the Butterfree and Charizard episodes but nobody remember all the other heartbreaking beautiful stories that Pokemon had Like the time Ash died or the time Pikachu died, the goodbye from Misty and the goodbye from Brock, the episode where Ash and his Pokemon almost froze to death and they had to keep each other warm all night, the first episode and the episode where Ash fights Gary Digimon has more plot than Pokemon but Pokemon has also very underrated plot, at list the first series

Akebi isn't old, neither is isekai quartet. And that's not a problem. It's just her favourites Eva, Madoka, Kare Kano and Macross are pretty iconic series and Digimon holds a lot of nostalgia for people. None of these are my top anime but the list is pretty fair

@@Ash_Wen-li I somehow overlooked isekai quartet yes it's fairly recent but it doesn't seem like it should be a favourite realistically its fun sure but would you list in in a top 10 no top 20 I think it would still struggle my perception of these shows are that they are only good the 1st time you see them you can't finish it and put it on again immediately and get the same enjoyment out of it those are the shows I want to see something that you can come back to qnd will be just as fun like golden boy or full metal panic fumofu old but gold more recent stuff like arcane and pantheon the 2010s anime grew up
