Saijo is an old well known Japanese variety. Saijo means "the best one" in Japanese. I think that this is the variety that is dried to make those super expensive Japanese dried persimmons. Its not very winterhard for our area though. I am crossing my fingers. The Steiermark is a variety that is found here in the State of Steiermark (where Arnie comes from) before anyone here had heard of a kaki. The tree is still standing, and now and then someone comes along saying that they got fruit and cuttings from that tree. The Steiermark is hardier than Saijo. When it comes to flavour, Saijo is really the best one.

Which kaki fruit tree would you recommend for climate zone 7a? I would prefer the harder kaki fruits.
