Thomas Scalea is a legend. A human , man and great surgeon . He doesn’t know me ( for sure ) , but I stumbled on him in the hallway at the shock trauma center .. and HE the one who apologized to me . I was a first year , no one resident.. but he is a human and man . He inspired me and still teaching me every time I listen to him . Thanks for this interview

this man is a saint, he saved my life 20 years ago, he said i had the most aggressive form of strep a flesh eating bacteria hed ever seen, an inch an hour, his protocols with hyperbaric oxygen saved me I was in shock trauma for over 6 weeks, lost my right leg at the hip and all the flesh on my right torso but have lived a very active and grateful life since

Hes a legend. My mom just passed. I keep second guessing myself i should have sent her to shock instead of UPMC presby but level 1 is level 1. That survival rate is people who leave the hospital alive, in any condition. so you can be in mutilple organ failure on dialysis, dying, get sent to a rest home and you are considered part of that 96% if you die the next day at the rest home.
