►About the Game -
As we revisit our memories, they change. How do we know what is real? How do we know who we can trust? Our seemingly peaceful neighborhoods house monsters disguised in human skin. These monsters live on the innocence of our children, leaving them wandering confused in the afterlife, forever alone and afraid. Our minds give the monsters a place to live, even after they are gone. Sometimes, we become the monsters.
Is there really a mystery to be solved? Or is this all in my head? I have no plan. I have no place left to hide. Am I the missing? Or am I the taker? I'll let time find out for me. It will unfold with or without me.
Explore the nightmare version of my childhood home. Uncover clues to the disappearance of a local girl in the 1950s or descend into madness trying.
Plays in the style of a PS1/PS2 game with modern controls. First-person 3D perspective. Exploration and puzzle solving. Atmospheric horror and the occasional jumpscares to satisfy your indie horror desires.

Hey, I'm the dev of this game. I'm a bit nervous to comment here honestly lol but thanks so much for playing! I should say this is my first game I've made in Unity, so the whole thing has been a tremendous learning experience for me. The kitchen sink theories are pretty close to correct. It's inspired by memories of my real childhood house as well as frequent dreams I have of it. I plan on making two more games to follow up on it using what I have learned from making this one, as well as watching people play it and reading comments/reviews. There are three endings, and all of the items do have uses. Again, thanks so much for playing and sharing (: you have my subscription and I'll be watching your vids in the future!

Oh wait, maybe the whole epilepsy thing in the attic was meant to be a hint to repeatedly shine your flashlight into the giant eye? That's probably one of the things you can do to get a different ending, you can try that.

Speaking of alice in wonderland, a horror visual novel released on steam yesterday called Who is the red queen. It's free, but it's so SO damn good. The horror elements are so well written imo.

It seems pretty clear that you did not find/get everything Chris, I almost want you to give it a second run to see if you can complete it - but I understand if you want to leave it at that. Haven't even got past the title screen, and this place looks eerily familiar to me. Like aside from the grass yard, this looks like a place I used to live. All our yards were concrete, and the houses were a little closer together, but other than that, this looks just like the view across the street from me.

there was a few different puzzles you never went back to. Thats why a lot of the items didnt leave your inventory. I think you should play it again. There are quite a few things you neer wnet back to. Like the code you found in the bathroom, the epilepsy in the attic, you didnt get the gun, and of course you forgot Emily lol. My guess is that any actual gun was in the safe Chris forgot to open when he got the combination from the steamed bathroom mirror. Because by the end that same safe is open, and there's nothing in it.

Whenever the girl appeared there was a video distortion. So would have checked the electronics. Like Carolanne, she's in the tv. 👻 But yeah, too many clues. The first creatures you saw stuck to the wall looked like nerve cells. Guess that was a clue for the epilepsy or some kind of brain condition.

Great game, unique for sure. I think towards the end, the small guys that make the house change are to allow you to change between the different versions to finish puzzles etc. That would probably be how you unlock the extra endings too etc

Rocky rocks, and I want more of him! 🦝👍Not so much the jaded, defecating octopus...🐙🚽🤣 It wasn't your gameplay that felt like missed opportunities to me, CJU, it was the game. It had a framework that seemed pretty clear, and a mystery that wanted solving, but when you followed the leads and were quite thorough, you were only able to skim the surface. I'd say the game suffers from "kitchen sink" syndrome--too much seemingly random stuff tossed together with no clear purpose or resolution. Still, your thoughtful gameplay and commentary made it fun.😊

What a strange game! Very well made, but I don't feel like it really gelled together into a cohesive whole. Like Scriptor said, it felt like they threw in everything but the kitchen sink without tying it all together. I ultimately liked it, but it needs more to make it something special. I don't think this is the case, since it's implied Beverly is the one who has epilepsy, but if the MC is epileptic he could be having the kind of seizures where you hallucinate rather than just the ones where you shake. I used to have those, and it made it very difficult to get correctly diagnosed, I can tell you.

My theory: I think you are an AI inside a simulation game wherein you solve the mystery of Beverly's disappearance - based by the real disappearance in the developer's life. However, the "game" is made by an unreliable narrator - who could possibly be the killer himself? The weirdness you are experiencing inside the game might be the narrator's guilt - or could possibly be Beverly's paranormal manifestation letting you know about the narrator's true story (in the note he says, paraphrasing: everytime I recreate the house, she is always there). Aside from the music video, another clue is the developer wanted to be a writer in Stephen King's novel - that's a red flag!

There were signs of child abuse - so I think her own family has something to do with her disappearance. What I cannot figure out is what is the PC's relationship to Beverly? He was saying that there were people saying that they used to live in that house, so possibly the PC is just a random guy who stumbled in that game? No relation to Beverly? Oh man, I think I wanna play this game and get the full ending!
