Afghanistan has resisted British empire 3-4 times, soviet's and Americans. Historically the attitude has been entertaining at your own risk as land is not conquerable with tribals. These different factions fight and war regionally constantly so when an outside invader enters they band all the tribes together in a unified fighting force. I.s. knew this it's why their approach was as it was. They knew that if seen as occupation like Iraq....would have been attacked and picked off like soviet's. British was insanity doing same thing over and over expecting different results. Afghan resistance is no joke. Taliban just laid low and even agreed with Americans to resume when void was created. All sadly predictable historically. Special forces operations would have been way to go with hindsight obviously looking at "war on terror" or Iraq/Afghanistan

I hear almost every day, "if they want war, come over here and I'll be your huckleberry", or some variation of that. I just want to say, you don't want war, ever. Where are your loved ones going to escape war if it happens here on American soil? I'm stunned every time I hear that.

Whatever one thinks of the necessity of this war, to leave a one sentence hateful comment on this video is a disservice to those who served and did so with honest intentions. Their sacrifice, worth it or not, came from the highest sense of morality and the sincere wish to protect freedom in this world. I thus wish to thank those who served in Afghanistan. Your sacrifice has enabled, though perhaps in a small way, my freedom when I was only 14 years old. However history will judge on the war itself, I will forever be thankful to those who served. With the kindest regards, from the Netherlands.

If the accounts of the Russian solders, also defeated in Afghanistan, had been reviewed in advance, they'd known better than to get involved there. The Russians also thought air-power would allow them to win. The Russians were chased out; didn't pack up and go. So were the allied "NATO" powers. The purpose of the mission was a recon-in-force or more to the point -- a propaganda offensive-- or more to the point a gross expenditure of money that should have been spent on social programs in Canada. There was never any chance of colonizing Afghanistan. Colonization died after the first WW and that's where it should stay. The impression one gets from listening to these people-- is that there was no clear mission goal, they all say something different. The only thing that seems persistent is a revision of the language-- "civilian rebuilding team" "free medical care" (no paid by Canadian citizens). At the end, we are to believe we made things better for them. The people are now x10 times worse off then before we went there. We helped very view of our employees--who were captured and killed later on.

They just watched as the Germans and Soviets ran roughshod over THEIR ALLY. Why join another European war just to have our citizens killed? It wasn't until Germany brought the war to France and the UK that they actually fought. And guess what? It wasn't until Japan and Germany declared war on the US before the US fought.
