Mike, that thumbnail is definitely 100% staged! Believe it or not, we were parked up in our Motorhome a bit behind the Travel Beans camper. I recognised the van & when they emerged, that's when it clicked it was indeed. This so called drama took place in the overnight car park at The Kelpies near Falkirk. I saw them talking to the couple (in the thumbnail) who were parked up next to them in a similar camper & for what I could see they got on really well;-) You're right to call it out! Completely fake & it all seems to be about the money! Shame as I rather liked these guys. After seeing the video I stopped watching their content. So...to back you up here, I witnessed this first hand & was a bit peed off when I eventually saw their video, especially with that insulting title! Hang yer heids in shame Travel Beanies!!!😮

Dear Mike, you have some very valid points and as you may remember (or not 😊) I've been visiting Scotland in my campervan for about 17 years. There has definitely been a shift in the attitude to campervaners by locals which in many cases is well deserved. With the onset of the post covid boom in van sales you get with it a new kind of van owner. Those that don't respect the areas they're visiting. They don't take time to learn how to drive appropriately or learn the countryside code, don't pull over to let work vehicles pass, leave rubbish behind, park inconsiderately, don't spend much money locally, etc, etc. Also with the much publicised route 500 there has been a huge increase in traffic but not the infrastructure to cope with it. On my last visit to Mull 3 cars and a jeep type vehicle with a farm trailer were hammering it down the island on a single track road with passing places which they were mostly ignoring. Eventually they caused a bit of a jam forcing a motorhome off the road (and me to pull over to such a degree that i ended up with a nice long scratch down the side of my van). Now I don't think that large motorhomes are suitable vehicles for many of the narrow roads and often they're hired so the drivers are pretty clueless. All this is a recipe for some hostilities especially when locals are trying to get to work, delivery drivers are trying to get to their destinations, etc. I love Scotland, it's people, it's culinary delights, it's produce which I fill my freezer at home with. I buy local crafts as birthday/Xmas/wedding gifts etc. But, I can see locals are often fed up and I also understand their frustrations. If you're new to campervaning please be respectful of your surroundings where folk have to live and work. Loving yr holiday videos 😊

A fair and honest review of that Travel Beans video, and I admire you for speaking up. There's enough division between our 2 countries these days as it is. Such videos can just make it worse. I don't have a van or motor home, but I have travelled Scotland more than once in my years and found nothing but kindness and goodwill. People travelling anywhere should respect the community and ways of others and never expect anyone to pick up after them, sadly such people exist and anger local folk, who wouldn't be angry if the same was on our own doorstep? Scotland is no different from any other place frequented by holiday makers, etc. I love Scotland as I love England and Wales. We have a small island to share between us. We need to stay friends (and retain our unique senses of humour ! 😂). Love all your videos ❤.

I have wild camped in a campervan in Scotland and I’m an Aussie my girlfriend was Scottish (unfortunately she died in 2021) but we did some camping and we didn’t have any trouble, I also went back to Scotland in April this year to go to my girlfriend’s Album launch that her daughter and Sister had organised, and although emotional for me as it was a wonderful time and filled with love for my girlfriend. When I lived in London in the early 2000’s, I went to Edinburgh to see friend’s from Australia performing in the Festival, I fell in love with Scotland, the people have always been wonderful to me, and as our humour is very close, the majority of people are hilarious. Loved Scotland before I met my soulmate and I love it even more now, a gorgeous country with great people. I hope you have had a great time in Oz visiting your Daughter. All the best for your trip home. I know I consider Scotland to be a 2nd home for me and I lived in England for 3 years, 2yrs in London and 1yr near Brighton, I definitely prefer Scotland although I had wonderful friend’s in London whom I saw on this last trip back.

Their attitude to your comment on their video, is exactly why we stopped watching them a long while ago. They think they are the best thing on you tube. We love Scotland, it’s people, it’s culture and it’s history. We have never had a bad wild camping experience there. So you might ask yourself why does it happen to them. At the end of the day, it’s all about money. It does not surprise me one bit. KZbin, for all its intents and purposes is just like any social media platform. It needs to be noted that Travel Beans were not wild camping as per the SOAC as motorised vehicles are specifically excluded. This common misconception is causing untold environmental damage as well as hacking off residents including landowners. Any vehicle needs the landowner's permission if off road.

They parked a hired van opposite a Spanish bar , well surprise surprise when they went out and left the van it got broken into I commented on the video that someone had seen them leave the van and it never occurred to them being parked opposite a bar someone watched them go . I completely understand how you feel about this. I am from Kent and a few years ago The Travel Trolls came to Kent and proceeded to tell everyone how awful Kent was and how the places were run down and it was a doggers paradise when in fact they visited the three worst places you could visit here and ignored the comments from people suggesting the best places to visit like Canterbury, Whitstable, Elham Valley, Sandwich etc and went to Gravesend, Margate (although that is starting to get better now) and Sheerness which, even the locals would admit aren’t particularly nice places. They then made several videos putting down my home county without visiting any other parts. There’s a reason Kent is called ‘The Garden of England’ and it’s not because of Sheerness, Gravesend and Margate. I felt the same as you when I watched their video. It was all about click bait with no evidence of what they were experiencing.

I’m with you, I’ve never seen your content before, this video popped up in my recommended. I do watch the travel beans on occasions but did see that particular video in my recommended and didn’t watch it because I thought it was click bait. I absolutely love Scotland. I have traveled up from East Yorkshire 4 times this year and have had great times and plan on many more. Admittedly there has been odd occasions of not feeling welcome but no more than any where else in the country and would rather be in Scotland than local to me.

We have just spent 31 nights in Scotland in our Motorhome and we were made to feel welcome on the entire trip. The locals made us feel welcome and were always friendly and polite. We will be returning again at some stage. Hope the new Broon van arrives soon! We are Travel Bean subscribers but try to avoid any clickbait sites normally!

I've been up to SW Scotland twice this year, as I did last year, to go fishing. I've found that area very campervan friendly with toilets, waste bins etc. The locals I've spoken to are very friendly and as long as you aren't a nuisance and show respect for them and the enviroment then wild camping isn't a problem. I'll be venturing further north up to the sea lochs next year and can't wait. I hadn't watched any of the Travel Beans videos for a while, but was drawn in to watching that one because of the title. They got me hook, line and sinker and can appreciate why you felt the need to respond with your own video.

For the last 3 years I have spent 6 months each summer in Scotland and I can honestly say I have never been welcomed anywhere better than in Scotland, I have made lots of new friends there. Total strangers have knocked on my van to ask if I need anything and have brought me food. I will be heading back there in the spring.

We came up to Scotland last year in march and can only say we loved it up there. The locals were chatty and extremly friendly. we had no problems at all. Nobody bibbed their horns when we were staying anywhere overnight. Ok if you use you head and respect the people privacy and clean up when you leave, then nobody has a reason to be affended. It really disappoints me when channels I've followed for so long are lured in by the rewards of clickbait. No doubt, financially, the internet rewards creators for clickbait, drama, anger, conspiracy, and controversy. The problem is it has a negative impact on the quality of the content over time and subscriber like us (and, obviously, we're in the minority) leave the channel for more genuine and honest content. I think they're a sweet couple, too, and hate it that they seem to be headed down this path of clickbait and drama.

"KZbinrs" ‘Influencers’ "IRL Streamers" Etc Think they can go anywhere, do anything, say anything and they are exempt form all laws n cultrual practices cos they are behind a camera and get 0 punishment. the reason being is they reguard time while the camera is rolling of their stream is live as "The Streaming World" "Vblogging World" "IRL World" or "Content World" erc and they also think this Imagenary World they are living in is seperate from the real world and crime and punishment is non existant in that imaginary world cos every action or word is regarded as "Content" if it's done under the guise of "Content" it's acceptable apparently. Travel Beans could have highlighted the whole issue in a more possitive light from the outset but chose deliberately clickbait with the pathetic movie poster thumbnail excuse when it clearly looks nothing like a movie poster with absolutely no effort cos they are trying to grow their buisness though more clicks n views than actually trying to produce any Meaningful "Content" there's that word again cos it's about monetary value than actually fair portrayal. their buisness model is get people interested with lies n clickbait then tell's the truth later very decpetive internet clickbaiting.

I totally agree with you, I recently spent three weeks in beautiful Scotland and traveled almost 3000Km and meet the most friendly people and had the pleasure of enjoying some of the Rugby World Cup matches in the pub with some fantastic people. From Ireland, I loved our time in Scotland and the friendliness of the people, Also we felt as safe and comfortable, everywhere we went.

The Travel Beans are correct in my experience of motorhoming in Scotland where we live. We have spent 530 nights in our Moho all across Europe and about 1/3 of that in Scotland. We too have experienced people blaring their horns as they drive passed. Two times at the Muir of Dinnet Vat o Burn stopover. Once whilst parked in Stac Polly. Once whilst parked up alongside Loch Ness at Dores. The very worst was when parked at the council motorhome stop in Ayr, where we called the police 3 times and people were arrested. This has never happened to us on the continent. They are click baiting for sure, but I agree with them.

As many others have said we stopped watching Travel beans ages ago. Everything about them comes across as false and staged to us which unfortunately seems to be a new trend across KZbin with increasing numbers of "click bait" staged images and dramatic titles. 4 year's of travelling Scotland and living here all our lives not once have we been moved on. Yes some areas aren't campervan friendly (East Lothian as you probably know is full of car parks with height barriers) so we just move on to somewhere else. Within minutes I came to the conclusion they were YTers that don't respect their audience, so stopped watching after about 8 minutes. They didn't get a subscribe from me. Hi Mike, totally agree about the click bait issue, unfortunately KZbin are in a big way responsible, as they reward the makers of these types of video, we've unsubscribed from the happy days because we got fed up with them doing exactly the same thing, plus a whole lot more of staged filming, never watched travel beans and won't bother to now, we watch KZbinrs who keep it as real a possible like yours and campervan capers etc.

I stopped watching Those Happy Days a year or so ago for the same reasons - every thing was click bait and enjoyed creating negative drama . I have been following the Travel Beans. But found them to be more click Baitey when they didnt have to be . I am really disappointed in the travel beans given their pathetic response to Mike . They have lost my sub .

My husband, me and our two dogs travel through Scotland this year again in our Campervan and we always felt welcome. We love Scoland and I hate the dramatic click baits on KZbin. All I can say poor people, only fixed to get likes. Greetings from Germany. We love your Videos.

Well I can fully understand your annoyance and well done for keeping so restrained in your analysis. From our experience of visiting Scotland regularly since 1974 and as campervanners and more recently motorhome travellers we have nothing but praise for the welcome we have received from the Scottish people over that time. A year ago we visited the Outer Hebrides for the first and wondered if the reception might be different. Not at all we were made so welcome. We will be back again as we have been regularly in the past .ATB 👋

I'm totally with you on this Mike. I realised around 1 yr ago. That they were false. Like you I thought they were a lovely couple. But I don't think that now. It probably started when they hired a very small Campervan. Can't remember the country. And they made out it was a complete surprise to them. As if they hadn't seen it online when booking. I thought what a load of tosh. I'm English by the way. I'm not biased. I saw the thumbnail & didn't watch it. When you see a video like the mini Campervan which was so obviously staged. Then you start to wonder about all there videos.

Unfortunately I would presume their video relates to some actions from a minority of campervan haters on the NC500, it's common knowledge there have been several incidents and aggression shown towards wild campers. Personally the video does not offend me, there is an issue on the NC500 which needs some form of resolve.

As a resident I agree completely that there is an issue in the Highlands which needs some form of resolve. I refuse to call the area the "nc500" as this is just a made up private companies branding which has single handedly ruined a once peaceful area. I was offended by their video by their constant reference to "wild camping" which does not apply to them as they are in a vehicle. If they didn't have landowner permission to park then they were breaking the law. Their obvious click bait didn't help either.

@@junehall2177 Yes the route has always been there, unfortunately since it was christened the NC500 it's popularity has grown out of proportion, between KZbinrs documenting videos, writing books, famous cyclists promoting the route, staycation holidays parts of the road network become overrun and and gridlocked with large vehicles on single track roads and the occasional camper who leaves traces of their visit. I can see why some may take umbrage and not welcome an endless flow of visitors to their area.

@@jamessmart661 Visitors have always been welcome, we live in a beautiful area & are keen to share it with others but the area was simply unprepared for such numbers & the few who are disrespectul are now a large amount. NC500 Ltd contribute zero towards the abomination they have created. It has become a trying place to live & worrying too, our nearest hospital in Inverness used to be 1.5 hours away, it can now take 3 hours because of the extra traffic. If you watch kinging it (who are fabulous in my opinion) they met travel beans in their latest video as they are both house hunting in Scotland … if travel beans hate the way they are “treated” in Scotland.. why would they want to live there? 🤔 By the way… love your Chanel and love love love Scotland.. We did two weeks in our Micro camper (Berlingo) all over Scotland earlier this year . Scotland is beautiful! And I can tell you that we had no issues at all . We felt welcome by the locals and one lady even suggested a great park up for the night….and it was indeed. I can honestly say that the people of Scotland were warm and friendly.

I did see their video which I only partly clicked through but it did concern me especially as I have been a regular visitor to every part of Scotland and have always found it to be outstanding and the people always kind and more than helpful. Let me tell You something: i am from Norway and I visited Scotland this summer and I did not have any problems. Scotland and its people are a joy to visit. I subscribe to the Beans, but did not View that click bait video as I thought «how did they get the angry scots to wait for the photo to be taken». It is disappointing that some You tubers think click bait is the way forward. I appreciate honesty, also in the thumbnails. I will now cancel my subscription to that channel, and I will tell them. As I told Those Happy Days and stopped watching because of their terrible click baiting.

I’ve noticed that some people use what we call click bait as the titles of their KZbin videos that are no way representation of the content. Hi Mike I share your anger, I am Scottish and have been touring about Scotland at various times of the year, we never use campsites and prefer to stay at quieter locations and have always felt welcomed wherever we go, we have met many English people staying at the same locations as we do and it makes me proud of our country as they are always complimenting how nice it is to explore Scotland with all it's beauty and have always felt welcomed with open arms. I have only felt nervous once in the last 3 years but it was only a chap on the side of our van one dark evening while parked up at Limekilns which is legal to do and the locals welcome it, I got out to speak to the three young lads who apologized for disturbing us and said it's something they had always done as kids for a laugh when they see a van in the carpark they then offered me a can of lager 😆. I follow Northerners on tour and they too have been using click bait thumbnails to attract you to their videos with alarming titles which turn out to be something very minor in their video. Example "FLOODED OUT during the night" they were parked in a small puddle after it had rained ☹. Hope you both enjoy the rest of your time in Australia, you should do a video of you both leaving Australia with a photo of a family member pushing you through the airport with a click bait title "We were kicked out of Australia". I think I saw one of their videos that said We were Attacked As We Slept, or something like that and I watched it.....it was a couple of mosquitos had got in the van. I stopped watching them at that point.

Really well said Mike. We do really like the Beans but as you say, they have a responsibility to their viewers to not mislead, at the very least. As someone with Scottish heritage who loves Scotland and lives in England, I felt a little irked, but couldn’t help seeing the irony bearing in mind the way camper vans and motor homes are often received in England! I do Hope that Alex and Emma will see what you did for what it was, a balanced and measured assessment of perhaps their poor judgment on this occasion, and not respond unkindly.

I’m Irish and we love Scotland, our celtic cousins. We were made to feel very welcome when we visited Edinburgh earlier this year. My kids loved it too and my older daughter felt she could live there, she loved it so much. I understood some Scottish Gaelic written in Edinburgh castle as it is the same in Irish. My Great great Grandfather was from Edinburgh so nice to see where he came from and we found his tartan from the Taylor family. My son visited Glasgow and only had one incident which may have escalated as he was asked in a McDonalds queue by another customer who had some interesting tattoos, what football team did he support? he said that he would decline to answer that question and was told by the guy that he did right because he was nothing but a fenian b******, not very nice but you get that kind of stuff from time to time in life, my son moved along and enjoyed his McDs and otherwise had a great time in Glasgow with his friends, one of whom is at Uni there so it hasn’t put him off and he'll be back. My name is George from and I would like to tell you a few things about me for context. I want to stress that this is my opinion just like it was yours in the video. I respect that. I've never seen your channel before but was suggested this video by KZbin because I subscribed to Travel Beans since 2018(longer than your 1st posted video) . I'm also a Patreon supporter of theirs and have been able to have multiple conversations with them about various things not related to their channel. I can honestly say that they are great people. I also follow other KZbinrs and have made friends with some in real life. I understand how KZbin and the algorithm works... sort of. I want you to know were my biases my come from. Now to the actual comment. They mentioned that it's their livelihood. They have over 300K subscribers and can support their overhead from traveling/Vans plus make an income. You have over 12.5K. I know that you make some money from adshare but I'm sure that you can't do the same as them and must be earning some other money or be living off savings. I have a friend who has over 60K and makes a decent amount but he can't quit his full-time job and support his family on it. He would love to though. On all social media things are suggested by the most interaction. What get the most are extremes... usually negative. Just look at Facebook/Twitter/etc when it comes to politics/social issues/sports. The most controversial, sometimes even lies get circulated the most. So with most KZbinrs their most popular videos have negative thumbnail or titles. Unfortunately they tend to do better in almost all KZbin genres. You also said that they tend not to use click bait. They actually do... They have numerous thumbnails with Emma implied to be naked in them including their most popular with over 2.4 Million views. The 2nd most's title is "We Stayed in a hotel With Lions in the Room". The lions were safely behind glass in a confinement. Great video by the way. Most full-time KZbinrs do because it's smart business. More views... more money. The Thumbnail and title of the video we are talking about don't represent and actual event but their overall opinion on the topic. They go into multiple reasons why.. including blaming actual Van Lifers for their lack of courtesy... sometimes disgustingly so. The increased volume of visitors in vans doing the NC500. Not just examples on people yelling at van lifers. Also they have done many videos with positive Title/Thumbnails about Scotland. Including their very next video the next week(they post weekly). The reason I'm writing this is to defend them so I understand you wanting to defend your Country against things that are bad. Not everything is perfect anywhere in the world. It is their opinion from their own experiences and talking to other KZbinrs they are friends with.(I also want to stress I've had no conversation with them about this video) I'm sure you have a great channel and I would love to say I'm subscribing and going to watch all your videos. I can't though. Not because of this video but time. I don't have time to watch more channels. So when I do add one it's usually because of a collaboration video. I only know you from this not from your core content which is probably pretty good. I've read some comments on this saying they unsubscribed to The Beans. If it took your video to make them then they probably don't watch most of their videos. If they did they would understand they don't just say what is awesome but what is bad too. 90% of their content is positive. Other click-baity thumbnails from them have been harmless fun, not offending anyone. However on this occasion they staged a scene that didn't happen. There were no angry locals in the video except for that 1 second clip of two people waving fingers at Emma. The staged scene and video title are making out that people in Scotland did this to them when it was all an act, fake news.

Your video re your new van was what led me to your channel, I then looked to see your other videos and saw the name Travel Beans, originally a couple of teachers who I used to follow when they first started, including their first trip to Scotland and prior to them travelling to USA and the Van fire. I stopped viewing their channel long before they had their baby and it was mainly because of their click bate thumbnails, the number of thumbnails implying she was naked and also implying it kept the voyeurs happy. I also found she was beginning to sound a bit more like a head mistress than the teacher she used to be, also their humour was more pee taking than humorous. Like other posts this was my opinion which most are and which we are all entitled to. Wish you well with your new van and future travels.

We have a campervan but never travelled up to Scotland, having watched the Beans video the other day it put us off of thinking of going. So yes making content like that does influence peoples decisions. It's sad to see them making Bull Shit content just to get views and make money. Thank you for pointing this out Mike.

Try watching "Philly & Keely" "Camper Vibe" and "Kinging-it" (who just bought a property there). They all had extensive trips around Scotland and the NC 500, the videos were amazing and it was plain to see they thoroughly enjoyed Scotland. It definitely made me want to see for myself. Perhaps seeing it through more than 1 channels eyes will have you giving it a second thought.

Well said. It is very irresponsible for them to make such a statement about an entire nation knowing full well it will influence people's decisions to visit there or not. They essentially admit in their reply to you that it is clickbait, despite trying to say it isn't, and that their livelihood is at risk. Well what about the hundreds of thousands of people in Scotland who rely on tourism for their livelihoods? I haven't watched them for a long time, they have a bit of an attitude imho and this has confirmed it.

I totally agree with you. Sadly some KZbinrs seem intent on fabricating thumbnails and titles in order to exploit their audience. So many are guilty of this and it's pretty much encouraged within the 'channel growth' sector. It needs to stop and I think that KZbin should set a rule where the thumbnail and title have to come from part of the video, the same wording and photograph have to be taken from the video content. I had my own channel for about a year and it's something that I tried to do. The trouble is there's money at stake for those lucky enough to get monetised, sponsors want views and drama attracts this. But on the flip side of that coin people don't realise how long it takes to film and edit a 20-30 minute video vlog... it takes hours of work with very little reward (as you no doubt know). I wonder what their analyitcs will tell them about the 'performance' of their video when that comes online tomorrow?!

The Travel Beans are influencers not genuine van lifers. They make videos which includes click bait material to increase their views. They live in a make believe world where facts and reality go out of the window. I would like to think that they set out to warn camping car owners to behave responsibly when visiting Scotland as there has been a lot of bad publicity recently which could impact on all camping car owners visiting certain hot spots in Scotland. A good intention. Unfortunately they then have to bring in the sensation and at that point reality stops and fiction begins. The trouble is that as influencers they are encouraging their followers to believe the fiction not the facts. They are often economical with the truth when it comes to detail. In another series of videos they’ve been implying that British nomads can easily move to the EU without any complicated red tape getting in the way; red tape like the right to live of needing a guaranteed minimum income. The latter even applies to EU passport holders. They sell dreams yet influence people who live in the real world. Thank you for publishing this video.

Hello Mike - greetings from Poland Well Said! I have never understodd why people who decide to live a different life style by becoming "nomads", turn to KZbin as a way of funding this life style. I watched Travel Beans because I enjoyed their content, visiting places all over Europe and USA in their campervans. Not any more. It;s obvious to me that this video about their visit and comments about Scottish people , is designed to boost their subscribers hence making more money for themselves. From personal experience we travelled to Scotland just after lockdown Nc500 was a bit apprehensive after some of the comments I read but we found all the locals we came across friendly and without a doubt be going back a beautiful place
