My 24 year old granddaughter lives in a rented tenement flat in Bridgeton, Glasgow, a less salubrious part of the city, it’s 2 bedrooms with small kitchen and small bathroom and costs about the same as you’re paying for the centre of Moscow. However, her electricity (no gas) is more than £150 per month. She then has Council Tax of around £120 per month then internet to pay and that can vary but is normally around £30 upwards per month. It’s hard for the young in the U.K. these days and food prices have risen in the last 2 or 3 years. Your Moscow apartment looks fine for the money with a lot less overheads. If I were young again I would love to move there.

Tap water in Russia is safe, you won't get poisoned if you drink it, and many people actually drink it without spending money to buy bottled water. But I also buy bottled water, because the tap water in my town is too hard and when boiled it forms a scale which has an unpleasant taste, but some of my neighbors don't mind it at all

The apartment is very big and a great price for its size along with the utilities it is still very reasonable. Apartments here in the US in big cities are terribly over-priced for what you get. Most apartments these days start at around $1,500 a month and do not include gas, electricity, internet, trash collection or water and many others go higher in price based on additional bedrooms! Also. the view from your apartment is lovely as well. I enjoyed the video and information. Thanks!

This house was built in 1949 by the architect Zholtovsky. For it he received the Stalin Prize. So he's the only one. And these doors from each room to another cause a lot of controversy. I lived in this house, only in a different entrance." This is MUCH more in keeping with Russian apartments I have seen on KZbin. There's another guy named Russell who gets the realty agents' keys to lots of them to show, and they are a lot different than this... dingy, depressing places I wouldn't live for any amount of money including their whole neighborhoods. The economics are surprisingly favourable for a European to go live in Moscow. We own a house in Kent and an apartment in Nice. Our combined overheads are expensive at around £4000 pcm before elective spends but no complaints, we feel very fortunate to have fallen on our feet late in life. Moscow renting looks good value compared with any metro area in U.K. Loving your work, Jim. I like that your videos mesh with what I know from two Russian friends, who tell me that Moscow and St Petersburg, where most career minded people live, are peaceful, well run, attractive places to live and which are affordable for most professionals. Admittedly, my pals are both lawyers, so they do ok. It’s pure chance, that’s not my field & anyway, I’m retired. We in the West have been subjected to astonishing degrees of propaganda against many other nations, notably Russia. My friends do say that they have to watch their language. They believe they’re watched even when abroad. I used to think that was paranoia, but I don’t anymore! Because I too am watched whether we’re in U.K. or in France. That’s just the way it is at the moment.

I grew up in Moscow, left it in early 90s, since 2002 we live in California. What I can see it’s not a “typical” Moscow condo. Based on the look of the building and its location it’s what we call “Stalin’s building”. This was elite living in the Soviet times. To get a condo in such building you should be on some leading position in gov or be some kind of celebrity from science, theatre, artist, etc. No lumpens ever got to live in such buildings. The quality of the building was the best, and that’s why these buildings are still in a good shape. The condo was remodeled completely in 2000s, I guess based on the style and the furniture. The original layout was different. The entrance was leading to the long corridor and many doors to the isolated rooms and the bathroom and toilet were separated. Regarding rent you pay about 75000 rub monthly which is very low for such size and location but the owner gives this rent just because they wanted you as a tenant 😏. I would love to have such tenant too 😂 single, foreign, no kids, no pets… dream tenant! The agent who brought you here got huge cut I’m sure. Keep in mind that the average income in Moscow is around 100K rub, so such rent is not affordable for the average person. In California I would pay about $3500-5000 per month for such size in a good safe place but the income there is much higher too, so everything is relative.
