Our Travel Day from Heathrow to Siem Reap! With A Night on Pub Street!
Hello, everyone! Let me start by saying... THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! This week, we have reached 300 subscribers! 300! We never once thought that we would manage to get so many! When we first started, the goal was to have a place where we could upload our videos, watch them back, maybe share them with our family and friends? It would be safe to say that we dreamed of having a small community/fanbase, now, thanks to all of you... we have that! Again, thank you to everyone that has clicked our videos, subscribed, commented and liked. It truly means so much to know that our little channel is bringing enjoyment to people.
Now, onto the description... part two! Yes, part two. I wrote a whole description earlier that, for some reason, has been deleted.
Lindsey woke me up at 06:00 with the aim to be out of the door and on the road by 07:00. A lovely thought but very unrealistic! Having a two year old chocolate Labrador with boundary issues means that leaving the house to go anywhere is a huge ask. You will see the face we had to deal with when we mention Cosmo in the video. The plan was to head to our usual road trip breakfast place, have one last fry-up, then go straight onto London. This... was not the case. Lindsey, light of my life as she is, has navigational skills that leave much to be desired. The journey to Damon's usually takes just under an hour. After two hours on the road, I turn and ask how close we are and if we have been diverted. Lindsey looks at me and says, "Oh... it has taken us around Damon's." Horror, let me tell you. No breakfast? No fry-up before a huge flight? Not to trip at the first hurdle, we managed to come across a lovely farm shop style cafe that, thankfully, were serving breakfast. Before heading in, we even managed to get some shots of THE most photogenic, self-aware goat you have ever seen. Again, trust me, wait until you see him. Disclaimer, for those of you that are screaming at your screen, "WHY DIDN'T YOU PET HIM?!" There was a huge sign to the right of the camera that requested we did not get give out any scratches. To be respectful, and more importantly, not wanting to get turned away without breakfast, we obliged.
After breakfast, we were on the way. Having checked in online, there was no need for the large queues. A saving grace because the airport was extremely busy! It only took an hour or so to get through to the duty free area. Here, Lindsey bought some make-up for our travels and I treated myself to a Puzzler. With the benefit of hindsight, when on earth did I think I would have time to sit and do puzzles? Maybe I should make more time for that.
After a stress free navigation of security, we boarded the plane. Lindsey's caption does not exaggerate when it says that I was awake for all of five minutes before drifting off. Lindsey loves getting videos of me sleeping. I think there is something about how peaceful I look that makes her want to capture it.
Arriving in Hanoi, we had a short lay over which consisted of another short nap (for me), some games of cards, a bite to eat, and checking in for the vlog. We then boarded our final plane... TO CAMBODIA.
Arriving in Siem Reap, we landed in the most quaint, little airport. It was very quiet upon our arrival, meaning that we again managed to collect our visa and bags quickly. As we left, me being in my own little world as usual, I heard a familiar voice. Was that... Lindsey's dad? Barry? Yes. Yes it was. Barry, at the time, was on his own, much slower paced adventure through Cambodia. The benefits of being retired! We were also greeted by the, now legendary, Mr. Hul Vong. Little did we know how much of a good time we would have with him in the upcoming weeks of travel. We hopped into our tuck tuck and headed to our hotel. I am currently running out of characters in this description but let me end by saying, the feeling of driving through Cambodia, being back in Asia, it felt like being back home. That warm, filling feeling of being comfortable but in a foreign country? I cannot really describe it. Just know that we were on cloud nine.
We arrived at our hotel, which, in brief, was amazing. A beautiful pool, frogs doing their best Budweiser impression, and a group of fellow travels with smiles on their faces. The room we stayed in was so clean, with much needed A/C and two showers! TWO SHOWERS PEOPLE!
After we had freshened up, it was on onto Pub Street! And, as I type this, I am all but out of space for the description. Please, if you enjoyed this mini-blog, please let me know. I am debating trying my hand at a travel blog to go with the vlogs.
