Ankor Wat was a bucketlist item we had to check off! It’s the largest religious monument in the world and a truly remarkable place. There is no possible way to cover it all in a day that’s how big It is. Our tuk tuk driver Vana toured us around as we shared many laughs and had the best day! Join us as we show you why you need to visit Ankor Wat in Cambodia!

The name "Siem Reap" comes from the Khmer language and is derived from two words: "Siem" meaning "Thais" and "reap" meaning "defeat," referring to the ancient conflict between the Khmer Empire and the neighboring Thai Kingdoms. The name is said to commemorate the victory of the Khmer King Ang Chan over the Thai forces in the 16th century. The name Siem Reap literally means 'Siam defeated'.

I believe those steep stairs at the main Angkor Wat temple referenced “the stairway to heaven” as the peak of the temple was supposed to represent mount Meru, a mythical mountain where the Gods reside in ancient Hindui religion. There’s so much mysteries behind those temples and I would love to see it when they were at their pinnacle. I’ve heard they were covered with gold and gems.

@@Tartaglia06 Yes, I can’t imagine how beautiful it was during its prime. They said it was a very large thriving city of over 1million people back then. It would be very interesting if we had a time machine to see the civilization back then. The mysteries of how and why it was built fascinates me. I have been trying to know more about it and hopefully soon will get to visit in person.

It’s not called Barai for the water around Angkor Wat. It’s actually called Kak Sin which represents the ocean while the Angkor Temple itself in the middle of water is like Mount Sumeru in Hinduism. Meanwhile, Barai is man-made reservoir for serving the agriculture during the Angkor era.
