Hey Gregor - thank you for your fantastic videos!! I'm a student from Singapore, and I'm coming to Florence & Rome June! It's going to be my first time to Italy (and in fact Europe!), and your videos have been so incredibly helpful. I loved your Florence Series, and your videos on travelling by train have been an absolute treat for someone uninitiated; Informative, clear, and of course well made! Hopefully I get to bump into you in person in Florence and thank you personally! I was curious about one thing (could not attend your live stream just a few days ago, if not I would've asked it there): I'll be doing Florence for 4 days and Rome for 5, and sure there are many videos and vlogs out there for detailed itineraries. However, for Florence, I would love to see all the art & museums; especially David! Do you have any advice about booking tickets to these museums places, planning a good schedule, the must see museums and other tips for a relaxed 4 day trip to Florence? Thank you so much! Apologies for the rather long comment - I'm a huge fan!

Thank you for all those kind of words and yes hopefully you will see me Romy in around the streets in June., I suggest you go directly to the websites for David Academia also the Uffizi, and cathedral duomo and book already because June is a busy time am I recommendation is go early in the morning at 8:00 a.m. when there are fewer crowds so you have a more enjoyable experience. You picked Two great cities to explore for your first visit. Also as you can see from my videos I loved Singapore and the Hawker stands

The machines for validating tickets at most stations in Italy are not always easy to find, especially if you’re rushing to catch your train. Trouble is, if you fail to validate you risk a fine. Speaking from experience as I’ve been living here for many years. I wonder if tourists even know that it has to be done!
@GregorBrown
@GregorBrown Жыл бұрын
yeah, not sure, I hope this video helps explain that. Anyway, the machines are at the start of every platform. And most attendants are lieniant on tourists.

@@_LostAndFound_ if you cannot validate the ticket with the machine, you can always write on the ticket the date and the time. It is usually accepted due to the fact that the machines are sometimes out of order.

Hi Gregor , thank you for your many videos and the tips you give. We are travelling to Italy in September. We have been before and my wife was born there and has been many times but this will be the first time travelling by train.If by chance you miss your train for some reason ( wrong platform, missed the announcement for a last minute change ) are you able to use your ticket for the next train?

Very informative video! Thank you. Do you know if I buy tickets on line or through an app, can it be for multiple people (such as other in the group I'm travelling with)? Or everyone has to each buy that on his individual phone? This is in case not everyone has a smart phone with connection?

Absolutely, @bcskqc! You can purchase tickets online or through an app for multiple people. It makes group travel much easier, especially if not everyone has access to a smartphone. 🚅👥

Hello Gregory. Your videos are extremely well made and informative. Would an app like the Trenitalia app be the only tool I need to book all form of train travel in Italy? I will be traveling in train between Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome, and Sorrento in May 2024. Is there a train directly from Rome to Sorrento and a train from Sorrento back to Milan? Thank you

How can you understand which platform and where to go. Do you base your ticket on the ending destination or the last stop on that line? Because I would be afraid to catch the opposite direction accidentally

Pisa is small, you could walk it. Also, have a look on google maps to see the distance.

The Campo dei Miracoli (meadow area of landing tower, cathedral and baptistery) is opposite to the railway station, but Pisa is small and gentle to walk, is less of half hour by feet, you can also cross the Ponte di Mezzo (mittle bridge) on river Arno, wich is a good wiew too, and cross for piazza dei Cavalieri with the old university palace. Tale a little map! Anyway, there is a little stop for local trains to/from north (Pisa San Rossore) closest to the Campo.

I'm travelling from Ancona to Florence. Trainline gives me a train with a 20 min changeover time in Bologna. My question is.. Can I book two separate tickets Ancona Bologna and another Bologna to Florence. Firstly, to allow me more time to change over (with heavy luggage) and also to be at my Airbnb in Florence at check in time. Will this involve additional expenses?
@GregorBrown
@GregorBrown 7 ай бұрын
Booking separate tickets can offer more flexibility and potentially more time for your layover, which might be especially helpful if you're traveling with heavy luggage. This approach may incur a slightly higher total cost due to booking two distinct segments, but it gives you control over your schedule. Just make sure to account for any potential delays and ensure you have enough time to catch your second train comfortably.
@lesliegoa
@lesliegoa 7 ай бұрын
Yes thanks, but accounting for potential delays is probably not possible. @@GregorBrown

On local trains, there are often bike bays in special carriages, so I'd recommend you put the bike bag/box in there but keep an eye on it. Another thing to consider is you need to pay a small bike surcharge too (this can be done either at the ticket office or via a ticket machine). N.B. You can't take bikes on high speed trains, though - they're too big an item.

On the local trains it's really no problem you just get on and find a space even if it's in the standing room by the door
