The the cappuccino before 11 “rule “ has been taken out of context by tourists. There are no rules. There is no curfew or cut off. It’s not real. Please do not use this to try and put other tourists off, or be afraid of ordering what they want when they want. Nobody will judge you, I promise. Everyone is busy. The barista has 20 other customers on their mind…. The only time drinking cappuccino is seen as strange is straight after a meal for obvious reasons. You will often see Italians drinking cappuccino as a snack in the afternoon or evening, especially in winter. It’s not hugely common but it is definitely not uncommon either. You will not look out of place. You won’t be shamed. Just enjoy yourself and whatever you coffee you have chosen to order. That’s the most important thing That being said, I’m liking this guy. He is so warm in his presentation .

I'm italian and the cappuccino curfew is something I never experienced. Yes, you are not supposed to drink cappuccino with a meal but in a bar you can order it anytime and it will be fine (not with a sandwhich though). Also yes, it's considered a meal drink so another normal time to order it is in the middle of the afternoon as a snack (kinda like afternoon tea)

I was searching exactly for this. Where did that 11AM rule come from? Everyone here orders cappuccino all day long, especially during cold weather. The unwritten rule is to not pair it with the wrong things to eat e.g. a meal, a tramezzino, a panino, etc. but then, if you really want it, you can order it just after as a sweet treat :) I would say the forbidden thing is to drink cappuccino ALONG savory things (as he says about the end of the video).

@rodolfomicelli23256 ай бұрын
They ask you if you would like an espresso coffee as a form of courtesy and to avoid making mistakes in the service. Espresso is a short coffee that consists of just 3 sips. Tourists are often not used to 5-7 millimeters of coffee in a cup, so they ask if you want a long coffee, or an American coffee. Don't be afraid, they simply try to accommodate your request.

3 types of coffee often requested in Italian BARS are missing: -iced coffee! it is a very long coffee (similar to American coffee), it is placed in a container and left to cool; then it is placed in the freezer and shaken at the moment. It is a sort of very frothy coffee granita and widely used in Italian homes. -coffee on ice! A tumbler glass with 3 ice cubes inside; they give you your cup of espresso, you sugar it to your liking and you pour it into the glass. - shaken coffee; 4-5 ice cubes in the shaker, adding Bayles, long and sweetened coffee; a powerful shake and when you feel that the ice cubes are no longer making any noise, you pour it into a nice glass. A sweet foam with a Bayles flavor and very fresh! I'm a barman, can you tell?

We easily notice how other cultures try to force us into their little conceptual boxes but when it comes to our own cultures we often have many blind spots so take this with a grain of salt. By population, Italians are over 70% lactose intolerant and I am not, so their silly "rules" surrounding cappuccino don't apply to someone like me. I make excellent espresso and cappuccinos from home roasted Arabica coffee beans and not from inferior tasting robusta beans which are found in many Italian roast blends to give the appearance of more crema. My rule is; cappuccino whenever I damn well feel like having one. As Terence Mckenna once said......................."culture is not your friend".

This is my 1st world problem: In university graduate studio, the only caffeine available was a can Diet Coke/Pepsi machine. My 4-8 daily habit continued into the working world. Here's the problem. I now have a work studio drink intake of 0.5-1.0 gallon a day issue, of water, juice, herb tea, yerba mate, etc. This does not work for coffee and the potency of caffeine. I love the taste of strong coffee. But I can't drink a gallon a day. Any advice?

No cappuccino after 11am but gelato or pizza, sure, have it anytime you want... so much for that lactose intolerance excuse. Just another way for the locals to make fun of tourists.
