I really enjoyed this video as I did that trip in reverse 5 years ago. Loved Hamburg station, beautiful architecture. Too bad we don't have anything like that in Western Canada, no passenger trains at all in Calgary!

Not a great place to travel from, though - it was a fantastic station when it opened in 1906, but the platforms are awfully cramped for the current numbers that use the station. One of the reasons why Hamburg is so much used is that it is one of only two large-capacity train stations for that city. Frankfurt, a metro of comparable size, has four, and Berlin about eight or so. The new Altona may help to relieve some of the pressure on Hauptbahnhof, and perhaps (fingers crossed) the interior of the station will even be brought back to something resembling its old splendor.

@@bomcabedal It sounds like the HBF could do with a capacity upgrade as you say and agree it would be wonderful to bring it back to its glory days - it is always wonderful to see a grand station given a new lease of life.

All the times I’ve been in Germany and I worked there for 4 summers I’ve never been to Hamburg and for years I’ve wanted to do the nightjet to Vienna but during the summer months so I can see as much scenery as possible but the old rona outbreak has scuppered that as my wife is still very wary of travelling unless necessary, love railway stations so thanks for the look around

I did the same journey early December 2022. Very comfortable train although knowing what I know now (no proper meal service on train) I’d probably not spend extra on 1st class again. The way they sound is cool. I guess next time I’m over there they will be replaced.

The Talgo waggons have arrived in Denmark. But Talgo has to finish the waggons here in DK. The track width you know. Here is a video: "DSB Talgo's indretning".

The few times I travelled by train in Denmark I found the toilets working and the DSB staff are very helpful. One guy in the Copenhagen booking office managed to give me an Orange discount for my ticket to the Netherlands on a Friday. According to the German conductor that was very rare. I paid 800 dkk. Please bear in mind that IC and Lyn trains can be full in summer so book ahead, reserve a seat or prepare to stand.

National orange tickets are far cheaper, if you buy in advance, though only for 2nd class, and international orange tickets are also available when buying early.

This is a part of the Schengen treaty so random trains might be picked for pasport / ID control. Of you're being checked or not, you ALWAYS need to travel with valid travel documents.

Dane here, I agree 100%. Here in Denmark DSB is known for its bad service level and there is ALWAYS something wrong with the trains. Prices are way too high and uncompetetive. You dont get anything onboard, however they have introduced some guy walking around selling coffe and some chocolate on some trains. The rolling stock is old, the IC3 and IR4 train witch is the backbone of DSB's fleet is from the late 80's but are still running till 2030 at least due to politics and EU rules (Another story). They have ordered a lot of new train for a plan called "Fredtidens Tog" (Trains of the future). This included 42 Vectron locomotives, and by the time commenting there is only 6 left to be delivered. They also signed a order for Alstom Corodia Stream trains, where they are buying a minimum of 100 sets. As you mentioned they have a order with Talgo as well. But those trains are delayed, and as the current IC3 trains running to Hamburg will be withdrawn from the Hamburg runs from this december as they have to get ETCS installed DSB has a shitty situation. They are in a dialauge with DB about renting some IC wagons from them. Also just a quick note about the safety card. I know that you say thats trains are generally safe, and they are. But in Denmark you MUST read the safety card as a turist. This is because of the many "special" bridges and tunnels that has specific requirments and rules. That is the main reason why the card is there. I hope I did not write too much xD, but this is just the main sum. If you want to know more about danish railways you are welcome to send me a message and I could explain it to you. Btw, great video. Really love how you review the station, rare to find a youtuber that does that.

I don't think you're correct about the signals, this press release from Banedanmark says that the IC3 trains started to be upgraded to ERTMS/ETCS in 2019 and I can only assume they are complete/close to completion. That is unless they have not been able to fit all 3 Danish, German, and European signals on the same trains. Feel free to prove me wrong as I am in no way certain!

I keep trying to post the link to the article I reference but it keeps getting deleted. It was from 2019, most recent I could find quickly.
@Dawud-yx4rm
@Dawud-yx4rm 2 жыл бұрын
@@epender Yes I know, but they can only fit danish and ETCS in the trains. Thats why from 2023 there will not be anymore IC3 trains to Germany as it has become their turn to get ETCS installed and can after that not drive in Germany unless they turn on ETCS. Most other IC3 trains has already got ETCS and thats why not many can run in Germany. DSB will therefore replace them with Vectron and new Talgo wagons DSB ordered. However these wagons are delayed and therefore DSB have been forced to borrow some old IC wagons from DB to be hauled by the Vectron locos. The Talgo wagons where supposed to be delivereded here in 2020 but is now expected in 2024.

@@Trainviking The new talgo wagons on this route will have first class with 2+1 config, though first class will still be way too expensive, and basically the same as second class, cause the politicians have this idealistic thinking, that everybody should ride second class, which is admirable, but unrealistic.

Germany to denmark how many hours journey by train
@Trainviking

If you go from the last station on Germany to the first station in Denmark, it's less then 10 minutes. From Hamburg to Copenhagen it's about 4,5 hours.

@@Trainviking Which will be cut to 2,5 hours when the new denmark to germany tunnel opens in 2029, though only at 125mph/200km/h, which is stupid, this should be 250km/h instead, excluding the 7 minuters through the tunnel, yeah, ambition is lacking as always...

Yeah Danish guy here, DSB is pretty notorious here for their poor quality. I mean the tickets are way overpriced, catering is pretty much nonexistant they're constantly late and making people lose connections due to fewer direct links now, the rolling stock barely works half the time and when it does, the trains are often overcrowded. And while some of these issues are definitely more so in the hands of BaneDanmark, the infrastructure manager, then DSB is held in very negative regard. And I mean when both the full service airlines and the Bus companies offer both cheaper prices, more catering and even the bus has a comparable travel time, its no wonder DSB is losing out in the long distance travel game here.
@ncard00
@ncard00 2 жыл бұрын
This will get better by 2030, though DSB needs competition to truly up their game, which they obviously don't work, and neither does the majority of politicians. A recent transport 2035 bill just took random proposed rail improvents, and put these together for random implementation, and highways got just as much money, as usual. A danish organization called "the council for sustainable traffic" also did a 2035 transport bill proposal, without roads and highways, and with ambitious bicycle and public transport improvements, which is what we need, but the politicians just favor straight up net profitable highways, please the companies who fund their political campaigns, and don't have the guts to be ambitious at all.
@drdewott9154
@drdewott9154 2 жыл бұрын
@@ncard00 Yup. Typical Socialdemokratiet. I also saw that some proposals in the discussions of the bill had been turned down like a few billions for extending the S trains to Roskilde, as well as a pure bombshell of 12 billion kroner to improve transit across Greater Copenhagen's suburbs. It didn't give any specific descriptions but 12 billion is a TON of money and I'm still annoyed it didn't make it in, while all the highways, some of which even the average people don't even want, did!

Both should be sold/privatized for improvement and cost benefit purposes, the state should own the infrastructure, but should never try to run companies, politicians don't know how to do that.
